Where do you put mic mod plugins? example switching D112 bass mic to Electrovoice E20. First or after harmonic distortion? Thanks, awsome as always!

Hi Guys, thank you so much for your excellent channel😍🎶! I learn so much from you guys and now I am wondering and a little stuck on this.. Maybe you or someone reading this could help me? If the att and rel are matched to bpm to get a clean compression, how is it done during live shows where the bpms change with each song? Do engineers change all settings for each song or are there "settings that work best"?

Thanks for watching, and that's a cool question! To my knowledge, no, the timing isn't altered (that said, I don't do live sound very often, and when I do, it's not professionally). I'd imagine that live sound engineers who are very well established and working for large acts create presets for each track and can quickly switch the settings as needed from song to song. In smaller venues, though, things are typically static. Once the levels are established, they usually don't change unless they need to.

Thank you very much for responding! I feel flattered that my question is cool:) I'm mixing a live performance in a DAW with over 20 songs and 100 tracks (incl. busses, fx, etc.) and was hoping I could save myself time and tweaking :) I asked myself if live engineers back in the 70's had fixed settings or were actively changing to fit each song. Trying to avoid processing each song seperately in order to maintain a consistant tone and mix. Definetely a creative challenge for me and hopefully my CPU can handle it all or I might have a long beard by the time I'm finished 🤣 When I've achieved my task, I'm definetely interested in a sample of how it sounds when Sage Audio masters it😍! In high regards 🎶🫡🙏

what does lookahead do?

Measures the incoming signal ahead of time, but the amount you set, and then ducks the amplitude prior to compression. Thanks for watching! SageAudio.com
