I experimented with a different way to grow radish. Square Foot Gardening suggests 16 radish per square foot or 144 square inches. In this video I grew 40 beautiful radish in a seed tray measuring 14 inches by 9 inches or 126 square inches. Less square area than a square foot garden and 2 and a half times the amount of radish grown. (In the video I said three times as many ... I can't do maths quickly in my head!)

This is a great idea. I am planning to grow indoors this winter. I would like to try with worm castings. Maybe beets and turnips too!

honestly radish are light feeders, you dont need fresh manure or compost. if the roots hit that manure any sooner they may not even have bulbed.

Hi this is a neat way of growing them as I've had it now with sowing into the ground, I do ours in big buckets and space them seems to work of us at the moment , but definitely something I could show my daughter and her children could do at home. Stay safe all of you. All best Bill and Val

I LOVE THIS! The little dibber is fantastic too. I'll be trying this method (manure and all) & planting up tomorrow. That's amazing about the freshness of the manure too. A huge thanks from us in Canada. We love our radishes. 'Easy to control their growing temperature which is our problem in the heat of summer for successive plantings. Yay you!!!

Thank you for this as I was thinking how to grow radishes all year round in my greenhouse grow room with my new lights and having the manure as moisture retention and food supply will do the job for me. I plant my radishes similar to you in the seed tray in my square foot garden, need to harvest them sooner though as they do go Woody and flea beetle damage. ♻️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.

Thank you, I think this is what I need to try as mine always just go top heavy, rain and poor light. I've just set a tray away tonight, this is my last chance this year outside. I'll make some kind of shelter to keep the rain off and water them myself as and when as you said and position them higher up for more sun. Subscribed and will look at more videos as and when. Thank you 😃👍

@@LondonWorms Update: I setup a rack 6ft in the air for longer sun light and put an 8ft x 18" poly tunnel on, I only have a back yard with out buildings creating shadows. 😒I placed 1 of the old failed tubs on and also a setup similar to yours (not individual cells though) I sowed about 60 Scarlet Globe seeds in a tray 520Lx420Wx80D and, Success 😁👍 I only had 2 that didn't grow very well but I deem the experiment great. The old ones did swell up too but weren't nice as I presumed. I was only watering the bottom tray every 4-5 days. My 3 types of lettuce also loved it up in there 👍 Conclusion: I think the issue was too much water and lack of sun. I'm going to tweak the experimental rack for next year for easier access and try some other types😃 Thank you, stay safe and Happy Festive Greetings 👍

I love radishes and tried to plant some this summer. I didn't know manure from a shingle. I got beautiful seedlings that were very close to one another. I heard of a thing called thinning so I removed the nicest ones and transplanted them into their own individual pot. THEN I watched videos on radishes. Whoops. Didn't know they don't like being transplanted!!! Yikes! 🤞 🤞 Crossing my fingers. But to get to the point, your video is great!!! I will definitely try this way.

I know this is old, but Damn, that is way more work than needed for radishes, You can grow a radish in your shoe if you have a seed, let it go to seed and you can grow 400 radishes before the season ends.

Normally yes. “Fresh” manure is just usually too hot, but a lot depends. Be careful not to use manure from animals that are being medically treated.

Does Soil-less Grow only with Water + Nutrients in it Counts as Compost ??? After all its all Organic !!! i am Growing Radish too " Cherry Belle " and i started Hydroponic indoor , and After Germination , i just Decided to Plug them in Actual Soil , Because in Hydroponic , they will need Insane Amount of Water , Potassium , etc... Altought on Label says " For Direct Soil Sow Only " i have No Trouble , at this point is Day 10 and they are Growing Really Rapid P.S.: ALL FENCY-SHMENCY EQUIPMENT , is just MARKETING TRICK , and People that Label Seeds with " DIRECT SOIL SOW ONLY " they really mean it and if you dont know why , that makes the difference between Professional Grower and Amateurs 😂❤
