Now imagine being on a battlefield during the Napoleonic wars and having whole batteries of cannons firing high speed iron balls at you as you walk forward. This was a very good demonstration of why cannons make a mess of infantry formations.

Pure Napoleonic realism level here!! Those battles were gruesome and yet so legendary! Now I have a better understanding of the ordeal Marshall Lannes had to face when he saw a good friend of his being literally decapitated by a cannonball, only to follow a similar fate when another cannonball ricocheted and destroyed his leg, eventually killing him after a sad, agonizing death...What a man!! No wonder why the Emperor himself cried profusely the death of one his best friends/ Marshalls, but also one of the best military geniuses of all time!! RIP, brave Marshall Lannes!!

So for those wondering: 400 mph is ~180 m/s. That's roughly how quickly a cannonball would be traveling mid-flight in the 18th and 19th centuries. The destruction is a good match for some period accounts too: There's a story of two French captains who hated each other. At the battle of Vellinghausen, a cannonball decapitated one man, and a piece of the skull put out the other captain's eye. So seeing all those pieces scattered so far, just gives a sense of the destruction a cannonball can do.

ikr? the way the skull split in two and parts of it were actually launched in front of the ball just shows the amount of kinetic energy that transferred on that one. the way the flesh appears to liquify under the intense pressure of the bowling ball. marvelous. good stuff to study if you want to be a filmmaker. Just make the dummy as realistic as possible and get the cannon a bit further away and film it for your movie, practical effects are the greatest thing when it comes to organic looking stuff. cgi is overrated.

I still watch them fairly regularly but I do miss the tower stuff. I'm not sure they're allowed to film there anymore. But on the other had at one point the tower stuff was almost all they did and it was bound to get stale after a while so I respect the diversification of their content

that's a real shame if they can't film there any longer. Totally agree though, coming up with ideas for that must really have been hard after a while. Having said that though, I have a bunch more ideas they could do with that so I'm sure we'll see them at that/a tower again eventually. They could surely build their own tower at this point though. With a lift, @howridiculous ! 🤣

Fascinatingly gross! As an avid reader of Alexander Kent's nautical history novels, this brings home the gruesome reality of the damage that canon-fire does. Men were killed or injured by flying bones from other victims! Great video and excellent to see these two dynamic duos together 👍😄

Naturally, to get the most out of an Aussie/Brit collab, you've got to do it on US soil. Brilliant.

This is an an entertaining but also interesting look into canon physics. Makes you really appreciate soldiers that actually went up against canons, considering it could shred half a dozen men in formation instantly.

At least back in those days if a canonball hit you, you had a high probability of instant death, unless of course it takes an arm or a leg. Otherwise, any head or body shot is instant death and you die never knowing you were even hit...

I wonder what an elevator's wind pressures are like in normal operation both up and down, and then Falling(IE: during a test or demolition). that could add in, some new science to the community and help both the safety in normal and demo. of the building.

Just... Wow! That escalated quickly. That was fascinating and deeply disturbing at the same time. And, I'm almost as impressed with that column of fire coming out of the end of that cannon as I am by the level of precision and carnage on display. Great video, as usual, fellas. Really well done. Firggin' hilarious, too. This one went right up to 11! All the stars!💥💫👍
