One attempt to protect the underside of a car from rust. As my experience at this is fairly limited i decided to do it on a fairly cheap car a 2006 Peugeot 407 2.0 Executive.
I did the same process 2 years ago on a Honda jazz although that video was not as detailed as this
• Honda Jazz Rust
I learnt most of what i could by reading articles in practical classic/car mechanics magazine, the website rust.co.uk was highly recommended and has great informative articles on the subject.
It seems crucial to have the underside of the car as clean as possible, clean of grease and oils, have any salt neutralised before then going on to remove the rust and bring it back to bare metal.
Bilt hamber underbody and cavity waxes were used in the case of this 407 as they had more favourable postage costs to Northern Ireland. I am not a big fan of waxoyl as it tends to be slopped around the underside of a car being sold by some unscrupulous type to get rid of a problem. The jazz actually has one corner of a wheel-arch that was treated with the stuff after i left it to a bodywork place to have part of the sill welded. The rest of the car is resisting corrosion quite well but the waxoyl has lost its adhesion to the metal.
