Actually the main way Tau dealt with imperial Titans during Damocles Crusade was not Mantas. Well, not quite Mantas. They used Mantas to drop several XV-8 teams all loaded to the teeth with fusion blasters to swarm it and melt the titan from inside it's shields, pretty much exactly like Elemetals deal with Mechs in Mechwarrior universe. It was almost a suicide mission, but a dozen or so of mass-produced Crisis suits for a priceless Reaver class battle titan and it's almost equally priceless Princeps pilot is more than a fair trade.

@@fumarc4501 The wonders of technological and mass production approach. Most of the most dangerous stuff the Imperium has is either in short supply or hard and slow to be replaced. Tau can lose a ton of hardware to kill a Titan but they will replace that hardware before a Forgeworld is even informed that they need to get started on building a new God Machine.
@KalashVodka175
@KalashVodka175 2 жыл бұрын
@@HubiKoshi This is not completely true tho. Each battlesuit is a marvel of engineering which requires resources to be produced from the ground up, implying advanced components that would require fittingly rare resources. The Tau Empire does not have access to nearly as much resources that the Imperium does. Obviously when it comes to producing the battlesuit the tau are at an advantage as they fundamentally understand how it all works while the mechanicus often only has basic knoweldge of what the components of a titan actually do Still something to keep in mind; tau have to contend with much less resources than their enemies, which is part of the reason why they keep trying to expand in the first place

Frigin Tau. As always they may be that tiny inexperienced nation in the corner, but the simple fact that they've developed these things over the course of scarcely a few centuries, and began mass producing them from a relative handful of worlds, really can't be understated, in context of the 40k universe. They get faced up against Imperial titans, ancient relics of limited numbers, the pinnacle of Imperial technology, and less than a century after the encounter, they have devised specialised units designed to kill them. They may be considered expensive, but this is expensive from the perspective of a fledgeling star empire. With even a 10th of the territory that the Imperium possesses, they could begin churning out heavy battlesuits like they were nothing. It's a battle of expensive vs priceless, along with a frenzied WW2 style arms race, except where one side is mostly rolling backwards shouting about heresy clawing at it's own skin. They have a subtle and clean style to them, but in they're own unique way, they're every bit as much a looming menace that threatens to grow beyond the tipping point. Rather than feeding on bio mass, souls or such to grow, they evolve and thrive on conflict, and reliably get more dangerous with every fight. That which doesn't kill them outright, only gives them motivation to build bigger guns, like tiny blue pretentious orcs.

Well between the Imperium of Man and the Tau Empire the living conditions of the average citizen is: Imperium: No freedom Likely hellish living conditions (unless you REALLY lucked out and were born on one of the nicest planets) The ever-present threat loyal Imperium forces will kill you on the suspicion of just about anything not properly Imperial The fact that if any enemy of the Imperium shows up in system you're less than expendable in the defense of the system Tau: No freedom Decent, or better, living conditions as far across the empire as the Tau can manage Not much in the way of witch hunting The Tau will actively try to protect you, the average civilian, if enemy force shows up in system So yeah... both fail pretty hard on the freedom front but the Tau win in all other categories. No wonder their military is so underdeveloped, they don't need to put it through constant use against not only Ork WAAARGs, Tyranid invasions, rebellion annihilation, and of course the terrors of Chaos. If it weren't for the fact that the Imperium is pretty genocidal toward xenos and the Tau want to expand (with all the good expanding space has already been snatched up by the Imperium) a Tau/Man alliance would just about be as effective as the Golden Age Confederacy of Man.

There is a reason modern day special forces spend quite a lot of time learning how to close combat, and in 40k with massive hive cities and spaceships as a regular battle zones, melee training even for guard-level troops is even more important. As for marines, eldar and tyranids, their advantages against conventional troops are multiplied tenfold, if they could reach melee, and given their speed and personal survivability via armor, stealth, dodge, transports (inculding drop pods), they have the means to reach it in no time...

"We need this new power source on the field now, but it's too deadly!" "Then we will just have to deploy it anyway. The pilots may die, but their sacrifice is in the name of the Greater Good!" And thus we see another crack, another compromise, another way in which the noble idea of individuals freely choosing to give of themselves for the greater good of the many... Is twisted and corrupted into the leaders choosing what is the 'greater good' and compelling others to sacrifice themselves for a concept they no-longer fully understand, nor how their actions may serve such a goal - only that they have been told that they shall and that the goal is good and noble.

Also, I'm curious. This is kind of off topic but what does Chaos think of Tyranids? This question always eludes me because Chaos has been around for a long while. It knows every one of it's enemies. The Necron that may want to shut down the Warp's interference in realspace completely. The Eldar that fell to Slaanesh. Sure you could compare Tyranids to say Orks that may be a threat to Chaos in tiny skirmishes, but overall only hurt the Imperium for the most part. Hell even an Ork ruled galaxy would provide plenty of battle and strife for Chaos to be formed by. But at least Chaos knows to a certain degree, how Orks were formed, what their history was with the Old Ones, etc. Tyranids are a complete and utter mystery that threaten to consume the entire universe. With no known origins other than they came from every direction outside of the galaxy, strongly implying far more dead galaxies out there already decimated by the Tyranids. They're collective hivemind is literally called the Shadow in the Warp and generates enough psychic energy to own a section of the Immaterium completely to itself. Cutting astropatic communications at a whim. Isn't that a giant red flag for the Chaos Gods? Wouldn't this be a threat in the long run against Chaos should they ever come to blows if the Imperium was finally rendered useless? If Tyranids were to wipe out all life in the Universe, there would be nothing for the Ruinous Powers of Chaos to latch onto, thus they would reflect the nothingness of the remaining Universe with no life, no war, no strife to form Chaotic powers in the Immaterium. They would become nothing. With that said, wouldn't Tyranids be the single worst threat to Chaos?
@DoctorM42
@DoctorM42 8 жыл бұрын
+GothaBillsAndDeath Chaos space marines think Tyranids are the threat to humanity second only to the blind corpse-worshipers who lead mankind to its doom by rejecting a glory of Chaos. Chaos daemons hate Tyranids and want to eradicate them whenever possible (nids don't have emotions to feed on and kill other things that have emotions), but generally cannot, unless Tyranids attack a daemon world (they did a few times, but apparently learned a lesson and now avoid them) or some of their mortal servants mange to shield their daemon masters from the might of a Hive Mind with some powerful psychic artifacts and/or mass sacrifices. I have an interesting theory that Tyranids are a bological weapon, designed by some other extragalactic empire to clear our galaxy of all life (and thus deatroyinf the Chaos, and return the Immaterium to it's original nice and peaceful state) to later recolonize it with species that does not accidentally create lovecraftian evil gods that turn a hyperspace into a literal Hell.
@GothaBillsAndDeath
@GothaBillsAndDeath 8 жыл бұрын
DoctorM42 Can you cite where you found these Chaos Vs Tyranid encounters? Not that I doubt you, I just literally can't find any or can't be arsed to dig that deep into the Lexicanum wiki. It's just surprising to me how Tyranids aren't a major plot point for Chaos given their nature. I do want to see whether or not the Hivemind is able enough to protect it's underlings from Chaotic influences and even perhaps consume Daemon flesh. Or, have this backfire and waste the Hivemind's resources on worlds that will corrupt their underling's telepathic link and corrupt them through physical absorption of "warp stuff" the stuff daemons are made of. Would be a very interesting concept to explore. H.R. Giger's bug aliens made manifest in realspace, relying on scientific/biological evolution attempting to consume space daemons from literal hellscapes mean to reflect/store metaphysical matter such as the soul that look like H.P.Lovecraft had a field day.
@GothaBillsAndDeath

DoctorM42 Also can you cite where Daemons hate Tyranids? Again, maybe I'm really dyslexic here, but I have not found an opinion on the matter by the great four or any daemon.
@DoctorM42
@DoctorM42 8 жыл бұрын
GothaBillsAndDeath ironically the only daemon on tyranid actions are outside of both their codices - AFAIK one is mentioned in the Grey Knight codex, and another in some imperial supplement. Given nids have no emotions Chaos use to get a grip on anyone's soul, they're utterly uncorruptable - deamons and psykers see tyranid souls as a black blobs (not the void like pariah antisouls, but just black) filled with nothing but hunger and determination. The closest thing to corrupting them any of the chaos guys could get was to infect some nids with Obliterator virus, but even then it only worked a few times before the hive mind somehow developed a cure to a disease that defy logic. Oh, and speaking about Nids eating daemons. They tried. But daemon flesh made of warp stuff just evaporated out of their stomaches when the daemon itself get banished into the warp. No biomass, no DNA gained. No reason to fight those spiky flaming things. So the Hivemind avoid them if possible. Just like Necrons.
@GothaBillsAndDeath

DoctorM42 Talk about when an unstoppable object meets an immovable one. Very true my friend, thanks for reminding me about the Tyranid souls. "somehow developed a cure to a disease that defy logic." Sounds Matt Ward-eee. I always thought a great scenario would be if Space Marines led Tyranids straight into the Eye of Terror or a giant gathering of Chaos Daemons/Warbands, but if Tyranids sense they won't be able to gain any biomass that story pitch will probably never happen.

RE: The AI thing in the XV-95 - It might be just me, but I feel as though the way the Tau employ their AI (partnered to an organic pilot) likely wouldn't result in the classic AI uprising seen elsewhere (i.e Men of Iron). Bolo parallels aside, it seems to me that having the AI work as an equal to the organic, both working in tandem to achieve their goals, would give the AI a legitimate loyalty to, if not the Tau as a whole, then to their partner. This is opposed to the AI workforce/army that humanity created, which would understandably foster feeling of resentment among sentient AI, especially when exacerbated by Chaos. That is, 8 to 9 times the amount of Dark something (Matter) that also interacts with each other and via some Dark (Energy) which is also most likely responsible for the acceleration of the expansion of the universe. So after watching the various videos on Tau and their lovely toys, I started searching the internet for art of these wonderful blueberries, only to find A LOT of... interesting interpretations of Human Helper/ Tau relations mostly in a style reminisced of... let's be honest, ecchi anime. That brings me to my question. The castes are not allowed to interbreed. Thus I presume that other races inside the Tau empire are also only allowed to breed with others of the same species, but since I doubt for an instance that a human and an Earth caste can reproduce, would a union of mind and body be socially and or legally accepted inside Tau society? I tried searching for this answer, but the searches came up with mathematical shit instead.

Great video Arch. The Tau journey of learning just how deadly their universe is has always been the most interesting aspect for me. The comparison of their over-engineering style to that of Nazi Germany is also pretty apt. In addition, I'm dying to find out how their use of AI will pan out. Will their focus on increasingly complicated battlesuits help them overcome the numerical disadvantage they have regarding pretty much every other faction? Will they suffer due to an AI rebellion or manage to find a way to be the only ones to harness AI thanks to their technological affinity (wouldn't that be something)? Most importantly, will future crises shake their stance on the Greater Good and their "relatively" benevolent outlook? Can the Tau even find a way to survive long-term as an empire?

The Necrons and Eldar both use AI safely (hence why Craftworld Eldar society is a utopia where you can choose whatever path you want so long as it doesn't feed Slaanesh; the runnings of the Craftworld are handled by robots and the Wraithsingers who occasionally have to service them). It was humanity's hubris in thinking they could use *true AI* without consequences (like, say, a slave revolt) that lead to various Men of Gold, Stone, and Iron choosing sides in a war that raged across the galaxy. The Mechanicus's radical ban on AI is a combination of a response to that war and a response to the Martian Schism; most (BUT NOT ALL) of the Legio Cybernetica was decommissioned after the Martian Schism, and technologies that previously weren't considered AI (like Black Iron Core Titans) were declared as such. Most DAOT AI we've actually seen (rather than just heard about fifth-hand) in 40k books fall into one of three categories - seemingly benevolent towards humanity, seemingly ambivalent towards humanity, or hates the Imperium in particular. In the first category was a Man of Stone who disguised himself as a Navy voidsman (I think that's the right term), helped the Imperium by serving, and told stories of the Mechanoclysm, until he was discovered by a Black Templar and a magos then vanished. In the second category was a Man of Iron disguised as a Kastelan-class Robot (as part of the Blackstone Fortress side-game) who seeks to find a fellow true AI in the Blackstone Fortress so that he can have a true companion, but reacts harshly ("you know nothing of either [the Machine God or the Omnissiah]; I have met the real Omnissiah, and I'm not talking about the rotting corpse on Terra") when a magos tries to perform a techsorcism on him. After killing the witnesses, he went back to exploring the Fortress. Also, the AI on the Speranza, who rewound time so that a shot would hit an Eldar ship that was able to dodge because of Eldar divination. In the third category was a DAOT ship that got lost in the Warp and re-emerged after the Imperium had become uber-zealots, then the pilot was killed by an Imperial, so the [far more advanced than anything Imperials have] ship itself kicks Imperial ass because it really liked its pilot and thought that the Imperium were superstitious people unworthy of being his descendants.

@jagnestormskull3178
@jagnestormskull3178 Жыл бұрын
@@zanir2387 There is no problem because the Tau don't make true AI as defined by the setting (or modern theoretical computer scientists), "the soulless *sentience."* Same with the Craftworld Eldar, and even the Legio Cybernetica. None of the above groups build machines that can think, really, they make machines that can take a set of inputs about their task and give a pre-programmed set of outputs, hence why the modern Mechanicus, which hates AI with a burning axe, allows the Kastellan-class Battle-Automaton and all of the civilian robots made by the Imperium. True AI would be a machine (Kaban) that's given a set of inputs (sensory, in this case), a task (killing), and no pre-programmed outputs, the machine learning the outputs for itself. I don't think the T'au have programmed a true AI yet, and that is what has saved them.

Mater and antimatter will annihilate each other in a massive expression of energy. However we can assume the Tau learned to use Dark Energy or Vacuum energy or the energy of Universal expansion. and have to use Dark matter to do so. Actually, WWII Germany's main problem was developing old tech when they had new stuff in the waiting. Using a BF 109 when the Me 262 was available for instance. That and you know, low man power, no gas, and bombs being dropped on them night and day was a problem as well. I am being picky now though. Your point still stands.

On the contrary, Germany's insistence to upgrade and alter their machines to the changing tools of their enemy really screwed over their panzer forces long term. Rushing the panther into service without resolving teething problems, building SEVERAL different tank destroyer vehicles for the same purpose while failing to ensure they had interchangeable parts, and waisting ridiculous amounts of resources on "super weapons" that never came to completion are just three cases of this ridiculousness. American tanks may have been generally inferior to German ones but they were available in greater number and nearly all of them had a much higher standard for reliability than their German counterparts. In terms of airplanes, the Luftwaffe probably made the right choice in sticking to the 109 platform. The real mistake came with not giving jet research greater priority before and early in the war. Then again, this was a time where bombers were expected to out fly fighter planes...

About the AI part, I think it is quite logical that the Tau can have AI and the other races don't. AIs in 40k get to the conclusion that all life must die because normally life and with that their creators as well fuel Chaos, so in order to eliminate Chaos the AI has to eliminate life itself. But that rule doesn't really aply when talking about Tau, because Tau have virtually no real image in the Warp and meaning they don't fuel Chaos and don't need to be eliminate in order to defeat Chaos.

wotcha! man Oh yeah? Battlesuits are much more mobile and it can carry more weapons and support systems than a wraithlord. So when it comes to firepower, looks and mobility, the tau battlesuits takes the cake.

+Chaos Marine55 point madeand approved but the sheer power of eldar weaponry is just superior to that of stupid overused in every anime fish-suit.... and bright lances... tau suits ate superior... at close range (because their weaponary is rquite short ranged) where they run the risk of getting there gills ripped open by a ghost sword

Max B no but what I meant is in comparison to the imperium, I mean this guys are suppose to be A Fascist Alien Race and still they seem to have an uncanny similarity to the manuarisoms of the USA When it comes to their war tactics giving preference to Long range or even automated warfare making liberal use of Guided Missiles and drones just like The USA, On top of that the Tau and their allies have by far the best body armour of any know faction in their universe much like The USA and it's Allies hab By quite a margin the best and most extensive(not to mention expensive) body armour out of any faction in our know universe(well except for Specialist armours made for private consumers) so yea the similarities are rather uncanny specially when Compared to the Rather Alien And Backwards Imperium.

quite right JoeRingo118, just ask any number of us vets who were thrown into the midst with no drone or guided missile support.... though i will say that Anarchy Empire is right, the US military is headed towards using drones and AI if given the chance... assuming the Government doesnt want to throw us humans to the front as a method of population control.....

Mike Whitaker why would they? The birth rate in almost all Western nations is crashing I would think the only nations that would do something like that would China, India and N'korea almost no one else has enough population to waste it like that.

Anarchy Empire, simple, look at the plans of certain US organizations and their purchaces, homeland defence buying enough bullets to have a full clip for each american, fema buying tons of disposable coffins.. leaked plans for Obama to try aand take control via Marshal Law.. and those are only the most prevelant signs... and while this screams conspiricy theory, and may be.. i wouldnt put it past certian individuals and organizations within the US to do just that....
