Good morning, John. Fun video to watch on a sunny Florida Sunday morning. My favorite outfits were from Eric, Gregg, and Ren. Simplicity always works. One thing I noticed with casual outfits is that wearing untucked shirts makes things better, because it’s too easy to have a “misfire” by choosing the wrong belt. Probably better to go belt less if one is to tuck in a shirt while dressing casual. Have a nice day, John.

These videos are really fun! I thought the guys looked great. I have one recommendation. Why not have the guys detail the outfits so you don’t have to guess on the color or whether they are wearing denim or chinos? Just a thought. Very nice critique John! Funny your channel is called 40 Over Fashion but I guess you have few younger man following your channel. I think the few guys wearing the white socks stood out but the rest of their outfits were nice. I live in Miami and recognize the scene behind your last guy that is Brickell City Centre near Downtown Miami. Keep giving us older men great ideas to dress current without looking odd!

How are these summer outfits? In most of the world it is 90-100 degrees plus for at least a few months. These look more like spring/fall outfits. Please do a new video for hot weather.

New to the channel & haven't watched many videos as yet, so take my comments accordingly. I find the visuals really helpful as models I can aim for. Especially with the guys who really are in the age range you're targeting. Including guys in their 20s & 30s rather defeat the purpose of this channel for me. (See the next video "I feel ignored & unimportant.") One request/suggestion: I would love to hear more about *_why_* things work and why they don't. The verbal descriptions alone are only so helpful because I can see the images. Same for just telling me what to try. But when descriptions & suggestions are coupled with underlying reasons for why/how the look works on a particular guy's body, I then have a set of rules or guidelines I can apply when I go shopping. Thanks for putting this out there. I appreciate your work!

Love the vid. I think you are way too nice with your critiques. I like how you comment on their physiques from time to time as that is the most important aspect of style. You can put a good looking, sexy body in just about anything and he or she would look great. Conversely, if you're fat and out of shape, the best fitting and nicest fabrics won't make you sexy.

can you share your thoughts on tucking in summer shirts (polo or short sleeve button down) into shorts with a belt? I wear a medium because of the broadness of my shoulders and no matter what brand shirts I buy they all hang too low and make me look shorter. Thanks

My go to summer outfits is jeans and a polo or jeans and long sleeve dress shirts for work, but since I lost a lot of weight, my jeans fit loose now and don’t look too good. I need to tailor them so they can fit better. I don’t want to throw them away since they cost me a lot per pants. I need to taper them and reduce the waist from a 34 to a 32 or I don’t know if I can get away with wearing them a little loose. Any feed back wether if I should tailor, would be appreciated.

Outfit?

Today I was shopping for food but saw some nice warm everyday men's fleecy tops and thought they looked so good even a woman like me could wear them and I was considering buying one when a huge, very rugged looking scruffy country man in a check lumberjack woollen shirt said "Hey, I need an extra large, for a big bold head like me. Do you think this will be OK on me? I have no idea..." It looked dreadful but I did not want to hurt his feelings, as he was a complete stranger to me so I replied, vaguely "Well, it's a matter of your preferred tastes and personal style... Each man is unique..." And I tried to move away. " Oh my style is I like to be warm in winter..." Some lonely older ladies pricked their ears up and then looked away and I heard one tell her friend "He's lonely and can't figure out what clothes he should buy... Do you want him or will I have him?" I was surprised, as they look like very conservative senior ladies. "Oh, let's both try and see whose advice he follows..." He asked them about the fleecy top and they began to advise him... Then more women appeared to discuss which colour was better etc. He ended up surrounded by women, all trying to help him buy his clothes. I think, in the end, one old widow took pity on him and just bought him the top she liked on him. He put it on and then they strolled out of the store hand in hand. Amazing! The rest of the women were aghast... "What has she got that we haven't got? " ,asked one envious one whose advice the man did not take. "Well, she's hot the man, obviously..." Another replied. "And all it took to get him was to buy a man a cheap fleecy top... Unreal!" I have seen some straight strategies men use to try and find a lady companion, but I have never seen such a strategy as this rough, scruffy, badly attired country man used, in such an unlikely venue for meeting ladies as shopping for food etc.So, if in doubt and your fashion guru is not easily accessible, try asking random women in a shop if something looks OK on you or not. It forces them to look at you, to check you out, to give you an answer. And they will feel flattered you sought their opinion. It was such a clever trick. Most women will react warily, as I did, but you never know your luck. Some might take a chance , on helping you dress better and maybe a few other things, too....

Not seeing the appeal with the sockless look. Just looks really uncomfortable, sweaty and smelly. Maybe a glimpse of non-invasive grey or non-white ankle sock peeking up would show that you're actually wearing socks.
