The .416 came about when California banned civilian sales of the .50 BMG. Barrett then refused sales to California law enforcement. Barrett then came with the .416, for which no ban existed. They also knew it was faster and had a flatter trajectory. Just goes to show that for every nonsensical law passed by the left, the firearm industry adapts and overcomes.

Here’s how bullet penetration works. The bullet must displace material equal to its cross sectional area. A linear increase in bullet radius is not the same as the radius SQUARED to get cross sectional area. Velocity & mass/ projectile energy are certainly part of the equation as well. Here the 416 with less energy can penetrate more due to the decrease in material required to displace for penetration

@SuperD00D3 ай бұрын
.416 at whatever barrel length to be 8767 ft lbs is the same energy as a .50 bmg from a 22” barrel, and more than from an 18” barrel. Most .50 bmg’s are 45” barrels. Also 416 right the elephant cartridge is like 5000 ft lbs and it’s 10.57x73.66 the Barrett is 10.6x83. Crazy those 10mm’s, only 12% more case length, gives it 75% more energy. But I guess it’s because the rigby has 52,000 psi and the barrett is 63,817 psi

Now, I don’t know much but I know that sloped anything makes a projectile less effective and the angle of the gun, surely, even though a little, makes the targets sloped. Surely the projectile should be horizontal when fired at those targets ?
@disiline343 ай бұрын
The projectiles are completely different one is solid copper and the other is jacketed. Also they didn't mention bullet weight They were having fun but muzzle velocity and ballistic gel would of been a better way to compare the two rounds.
