These unpublished historical photographs were taken by an unknown soldier of Company A, 41st Tank Battalion, 8th Infantry Division in Germany 1956-1957. Some of the themes and people included in this video are Fliegerhorst Kaserne Leipheim, town of Leipheim, Hauserlesturm Leipheim and soldiers Donald McIntyre, Charles Scheetz, Gary Prall, Bruce Medley, Johnson, Rowley, Thomas K Smith (California), James T Eads (Tennessee), Douglas B Phelps (Texas).

Thanks for sharing! Great pictures! I lived there as a military dependent from 1975 until 1978. I always wondered about the history of the U.S. units at this installation. When we lived there, there were no U.S. Army units stationed on the base in Leipheim. All the tenant units there were German at this point. As far as I know, all of the Soldiers living at the base in Leipheim worked at the base 512 Field Artillery Group and the 510th Ordinance Company in nearby Gunzburg during that time. I believe in the early 1980's the Air Force moved to Leipheim with their A-10’s (Det. 2 81st Tactical Fighter Wing) and the 512th was, around the same time, deactivated or sent stateside as the Pershing Missiles were removed from Europe. Anyway, it was a great place to be a kid! Loved it there!
