This video is of my Sunflower Plant from Week 14 to Week 21. I took more than 20,000 photos during this time.
Time lapse Camera: Nikon D3200 - 18-55mm Lens (Macro attachment), 50mm Prime Lens
Play Speed: 7560x (One Shot every 3 minute at 42 FPS)
Music:
The Bud
Gymnopedie No. 3 - Wahneta Meixsell
The Bloom
No.1 A Minor Waltz - Esther Abrami
The Swan Song
No.6 In My Dreams - Esther Abrami
The Bud:
There was one Bud on the plant. Ever since the bud started developing, I made sure the plant got sufficient seaweed solution and organic fertilizer. I wanted to get a closer look at the bud as it opened, so I shot photos with mt 18-55mm Lens with a macro attachment. At this stage the plant kept moving so often that I had to keep moving the Camera. While doing that, I unfortunately dropped my camera and broke the lens. The timelapse couldn't wait so I carried on with my 50mm Prime Lens.
The Bloom:
The bud opened within a span of two days when I fed it some seaweed solution. The plant as a whole started to crouch and exit the frame, I decided to give the plant some support with a bamboo stick. It was lucky that I was able to capture the pollen formation in the centre of the flower when the light was relatively stationary. Since the light was continuously switched on for weeks together, the flower didn't really get a shut eye. The flower, even though tied to the bamboo, turned away from the light.
The Swan Song:
It was the last stretch of the plant. The petals started wilting and drying. Since the plant grew completely indoors there was no pollination and no seeds. By this point, the plant had grown about 3 quarters the height of the grow tent. In many photos, the sunlight actually reflected of the inside of the tent and changed the lighting. There was quite a bit of flicker towards the end. I'll try and keep the lighting consistent for my next videos.
The Circle of Life:
It was a great experience growing the sunflower completely indoors. I learnt many things during these 21 week which I would love to implement in future videos.
