Hamilton is an American musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. This project is a labor of love from an avid fan who believes that Hamilton is a modern masterpiece. This extended version of the show takes the existing Original Broadway Cast Recording and incorporates cut and altered songs from demo tapes and a live workshop recording. While the Broadway version is the superior and quintessential version, this cut offers Hamilton fans additional character insight, a couple of unexpected surprises, and a slightly wider scope of Lin-Manuel Miranda's brilliant vision.

Katie this is super late but I think they cut it cuz they wanted Lauren’s death to be a surprise for people who got to see the musical (all references to Lauren’s dying were omitted from the album)

I think the main reason most of Laurens actually emotional lines got cut was that "let it go" was cut so it wouldn't work

@@yaeleah0722 Yeah, that's sad, but unsurprisingly understandable. He has lost so so much, in his youth and beyond, live through more pain in 47 years than most would in 100! He never thought he'd live past twenty, has imagined and seen death so much it felt more like a memory, wrote thousands words on paper just so something could out-live him when he's gone, perfectly knowing that he may be gone tomorrow and only dares to think about tomorrow when he found something he thought worth fighting for; his legacy, and America at the same time. He, without any doubt, made a shit load of bad things and may have been a total jackass but I still have immense respect for him! (Sike, I write a lot, don't I? I'm sorry if I bored you)

Fun fact. John Laurens was in South Carolina while in the war, Hamilton wanted to be with him so bad and begged Washington to which he said no, this made Hamilton suicidal and depressed

Thank you for this! This one makes me realize how much Lin interconnected the songs. If he’d kept this version he would’ve kept let it go because they go hand in hand.

One reason I think they cut this is because if they were to do it on stage, it would be such a quick change. The actor playing Laurens/Philip would have time to change into the Laurens costume between Take a Break and Hurricane, but Hurricane goes right into The Reynolds Pamphlet, so if Philip were gonna make an appearance like he does, then they’d have to do a very fast quick change. Or maybe it’s just cause Lin wanted to be sneaky about Laurens’s death. Maybe both. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I wish they didn’t cut it though, it’s so good.

they'd also have to use 'Let It Go' as it is a reference and in turn the original version of "Schuyler Defeated' as that is when Eliza goes downtown.. But I agree about the costume change, and the hiding of Laurens' death. But I would've preferred all 3 songs.

I think it's most likely because, with Schuyler Defeated cut, the reference to "let it go" would make no sense as it has a completly different sound and does not reference that song anymore. It's easy to help the "Laurens/Philip costume change", you just need to change the entry of Philip near the ending of the song and not at the beginning, so he can have time to put his hair down and take off his jacket.

Almost the whole thing has a main difference wyd- Lin actually worked hard on this workshop song, he sounds like he is on the verge of tears, especially at 1:24

Guys guys guys I think the only reason why this version of hurricane was cut was because of Disney’s frozen song. Because in this version of hurricane it has the lyric “or you could let it go” which the lyric Let it go was a cut Hamilton song before cabinet battle 2 and the only reason Lin cut the song was because Disney also created a song Let it go. So had Disney not done that we would have had the song let it go and then have this version of hurricane. Because it would come out of nowhere to have Laurens say “or you could let it go”.

This version is pretty great, but I feel Burr’s cue still shouldve been after “I couldn’t seem to die” like in the version we got. With Laurens’ cue being after “My enemies wont have anything on me now”
