In this video I file fit the rings for the .030 over 440 Mopar. The Keith Black pistons require a .0065 per inch of bore top ring. gap.#KeithBlackPistons#IconPistons#MoparPerformance #VintageMoparEngines#AutomotiveMachineShop

Very nice!... To save money I was thinking the old TRW's pistons.... Building an old 440 motor home engine with six pak rods on the dirt cheap... Won't see more than 5800 rpm.

Thanks for watching MoparNut. Sounds like a solid build there MoparNut. Definitely check the balance with Forged piston and Six pack rods. Have a good evening.

That's a really good tip. I first thought well of course I only grind one side but with all the in and out checking I'm not sure that I do only grind one side. I don't really do boost engines but it is a good practice to keep in my pocket. Good video, Ed 👍 Edit: I meant to ask, is that just a REALLY big accumulation groove in those KBs or does it have another purpose???
@edsmachine9315 күн бұрын
Thanks Joshua, I appreciate you watching. Another advantage usually the end gaps square, you always have a square side for reference. If you do have an error, you only have one.👍 Yes the Accumulater groove, it is big. Using exhaust gasses to promote sealing. That's why it is necessary for the wider intake gap. If you do not gap the appropriate amount, the rings will butt and damage will happen. Have a great day.👍

Hi Ed, thanks for sharing. I assume the rings leave some sort of witness mark on the unground side if they do butt together?
@edsmachine9315 күн бұрын
Hi Andy, I appreciate you watching and the question. Yes, the rings will leave a witness mark if they touch. Either on the ground side or the or the other side. Have a good evening. 👍

Great tip about the end gap filling. Do you have a formula to use for setting the end gap based off of bore size or do you just use your experience from your success over the years 🤔
@edsmachine9316 күн бұрын
Hi John, I appreciate you watching and commenting. End gaps very engine to engine. These Keith Black's are .0065 per inch of bore. Nitrous and or Blown require additional clearance. The .0065 is the minimum requirement. Most engines start at about .0045. But varies depending on requirement. Have a good evening. 👍

Boost is so dang tempting but i will prob go to my grave running all natural. Good info Ed👊

be nice if small rings were more common with theses re-builder pistons just ticks me off they do not use 1.5mm and so on
@edsmachine9316 күн бұрын
Hi Overbuilt, I agree 1.5mm or .0625 would be better than 5/64 or .078. Would free up some Horsepower. But the rings would also cost more. Have a good evening. 👍
