My initial reaction to cognitive enhancers were indifferent. But after hearing Paul Stamets on the Joe Rogan Experience, I was convinced that there had to be some merit to the mushroom endorsement from a Science genius (aka Stamets). So, I wanted to see for myself what the fuss was all about. Follow along as I embark on a 45 Day Lion's Mane intake experiment and see how my memory results for three games are affected. This experiment was so incredibly fun to participate in and document! Biohacking with mushrooms, let's go! Enjoy watching!

I had short term memory loss, took lions main every day for 2 years, I did not notice any difference. What did work was eliminating wheat from my diet. Not only did my memory get better but acid reflux I suffered with for over 20 years went away in 2 weeks. It’s been 4 years now, I haven’t even had heartburn. You never know what foods or chemicals in the food can cause an allergic reaction. Doctors told me memory loss is normal to aging. Or could it be your eating something inflammatory and not knowing it for decades. With me it was wheat for you it could be milk or dairy. If you are having memory problems try an elimination diet. Remove a food group for a couple of months, if you still have the problem try another. It doesn’t cost anything unlike purchasing pills.

Yeah much respect. Everybody different too. If you already in good shape, sleep well, hydrated h2o wise and exercise you might already be feeling so good you not notice other effects. Personally I took lions mane before I started working out again, and during lockdown when I had to study and was just not feeling it. Cleared up my mind, helped me focus, noticeably better after couple weeks, but I was taking double doses too for the begining. Nothing intoxicating or a magic pill but now that I’m exercising, eating to a real diet I don’t notice the supplement as much as I first did. Hope this helps - success and good health to all reading this ✌🏼

This was a great experiment, but you need to be careful about the company/extract you use. Most companies (like the one you used in the video) use the mycelium of the mushroom for their extracts because it’s cheaper and easier to manufacture. The downside to this is that extractions made from mycelium contain little to none of the beneficial compounds that you are looking to get from taking the supplements. If you want to take a supplement that actually contains the polysaccharides and triterpenes, you need to get an extract made from whole fruiting bodies, not mycelium. As far as memory goes, I doubt you’ll see a change from taking the supplement either way, but you will definitely notice increased focus and mood benefits if you take a supplement made from the whole fruiting body.

Exactly. Also this repairs functionality and prevents brain function decline. So for someone with no cognitive issues you won’t really notice anything unless you have mood swings or anxiety brain damage or mental health issues or disabilities. Also another thing to consider is if you are taking it with something to aid absorption like Mtc oil or coconut oil.

You were taking a very inactive form of Lions Mane (Mycelium derived) rather than an active form like extracted fruiting bodies where the minimum beta-glucan amounts are stated. Beta-glucans are where most of the memory benefits come from. I would recommend trying either Nootropics Depot or Oriveda's Lions Mane extracts at around 700-2000mg per day and see if you notice a big difference. I certainly do.

I've been taking Lions Mane for 3 months. Before my thinking was slow and sluggish, I was tired all the time. What a difference it has made in my life! From day one I've been more clear headed, my thinking is easier, I'm more awake. Two people that saw my change wanted to try it. But both of them had strange side affects. One said it "made her feel weird on her edges". Best way to describe it. The other said it made her "spacey feeling". Both hated it. So this is not for everyone. But for me it's been a real blessing. It's also meant finding the right amount. Too much and I fall asleep. Too little does nothing. It may be worth mentioning I do take an anti-anxiety medication also. Perhaps it makes a difference if your "normal" or not. I would say try it. If it's not for you, you'll know in a day or 2. Some of you might be really glad you did. Just remember, as she suggests, but from a reputable dealer.

I want to start by saying that I think this is a good video with a great execution. It is extremely important to look into your mushroom supplements though. The one in this video is made from powdered myceliated brown rice which is what the fruit body grows from. The mycelium on brown rices doesn’t have nearly as many health benefits as fruit body supplements. Another key thing is to put the powder into tea or coffee to extract compounds that would otherwise go to waste.

@@ShoshinShow note that "mycelium" in itself is perfectly fine as long as they specify the active ingredients on the label (beta-glucans etc.). That type is grown in liquid substrate and then is being extracted, so you get a clean and pure product that is easy to absorb. the stuff that is grown on rice like the one in the vid is called biomass and usually you'll see on the label 'myceliated rice' or 'biomass'. these are not extracted and contain very little actual mushroom matter, it is mainly starch/rice powder.

if you live in a warmish climate getting a grow kit and eating them fresh is definitely the cheapest method. They are really hardy and easy to grow. Eating them uncooked and raw thereby not destroying any part of the mushroom at high cooking temperatures is a good idea. The most obvious benefit for me is the amount of dreaming and the great nights sleep. I think there is a lot of pill and tincture buzz because it's turned in to a profitable business, which is ok, but they are not the only route to lions mane.

Try one for turmeric. 1 teaspoon with 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper per day. Use Alleppey turmeric (5% curcumin); the easiest way to get it and probably the best brand is McCormick Culinary Ground. You can find it at Walmart or Amazon. Best time to take it is in your last meal before bed or as a nightcap tea or golden milk. You can't ingest it within 3 hours of caffeine, because caffeine neutralizes it.

My understanding is that you only grow about 800 new neurons per day. Practice certainly does increase neuronal connections. And strengthen their Pathways to complete a task easier. I appreciate the efforts though I'm taking it now will we will see. I'm dealing with some pretty serious memory problems at the present time. Some people would say it's aging because I'm 65 but from what I understand you can have the same brain at 85 as you had at 20. But diet and exercise are direly important to maintain.

that was very interesting, great initiative in wanting to test the claim regarding lion's mane. I hove 2 comments about the experiement: first, if lion's mane helps develop new neuro-pathways maybe one month is not enough, second is that for such an experiment a control group if fundamentally important because, as you briefly mentioned, becoming better at memory test is definitely a factor that needs to be considered and if you ever decide to retry this test on a longer period of time this factor might become very significant and give false correlations. having someone who doesn't take lion's mane but does the memory test at the same intervals as you you make it possible to factor out the "getting better at memory tests" effect. I have recently started doing memory games because I worry about my memory loss and I was surprised how fast I got better at it.

Check out our latest Vitamin D test and let me know what you think of the method! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f52dq8KbqOCyYXk.html Taking the pills for longer is an option for sure. I’d love to see more of us doing tests like these to see how nootropics work for us. Apart from methodology, it’ll also affect every individual slightly differently. At the end of the day, I agree that doing the tests alone will improve memory! The real work always works.

Taking a pill to improve your memory is like replacing one tire on your car. You first have to stop taking the poisons that are degrading your memory to begin with. Improve your chances by eliminating processed foods, alcohol, high carb diets and sugar. In addition, exercise is essential as is proper amount of sleep. Having said that I am male, age 67 and I had a two minute memory. Give me two minutes and I’ll remember it. After cleaning up my diet AND exercising (swimming), AND proper sleep. I did add lions mane supplement and I feel that my memory recall is improved but more research will be required before I can make a determination on the potential benefits of lions mane.

The mushrooms that enhance my memory the most, and the fastest (within a couple hours) are psilocybin mushrooms. The enhanced memory I get from them lets me remember things from a loooong time ago. Meaning I have vivid memories about things that happened decades ago in my childhood, that I have not thought about since, or have only thought about very vaguely. I remember things like clothing I was wearing 25 years ago when my dad took me to the grocery store, as he made a certain comment. At times it's like someone opened up all the filing cabinets in my brain, and I'm able to look at everything to make connections between things, sense of things, and really put myself back in those moments. Being able to have those vivid memories, and experience them with a new level of empathy for people (even those people I usually dislike), is wonderful. Also being able to understand the emotion that goes with each memory, while not having to experience the emotions is priceless. It allows me to think about things, that I might otherwise try to never think about, without having the negative emotions that might go with those memories. Also I get to remember a lot of great things, I forgot decades ago. This was the case even a couple hours into my first psilocybin mushroom session. For anyone curious, I had 1.7 grams that session, but I have also noticed (to a smaller degree) vivid memory recall with micro-dosing (which I don't usually do). I've gone to talk therapy for over 5 years, but in a lot of ways, I did more therapy, and grew more from one time using the psilocybin mushrooms. After using the mushrooms, I felt much more capable of addressing issues with my therapist, because I understood my life, history, emotions, and mental strength much more. Every time using the mushrooms has been nice, but the first time, was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.

I would say for anyone who would like to do an experiment like this, to do it more than 30 days, ideally a minimum of 3 months. A month really isn't long enough for your mind to make the changes that come with seeing results. Remember that powdered mushrooms aren't the same as prescription drugs, where you would expect to start to see the changes within a few days. Mushrooms help your body to get back to where it should be, and that takes time.

Host defense is well known for not having as much of the beneficial compounds that come from the mushroom itself simply because of the way it is grown and supplied. There are many ways to get extract from mushrooms, the best being to take extracts from the fruiting body (mushroom) and not the mycelium. Host defenses methods of growing and harvesting use myceliated grain along with some fruiting body of mushroom. This makes the concentrations of the beneficial compounds much less than companies that take mushroom extracts and provide those as a tablet vs myceliated grain. I’m currently about to try Nammex mushroom extracts and I’ll try to update my comment on here to see if I feel any results. I ordered Cordyceps and Lion’s Mane. Highly recommend another test with nammex extracts to see any differences. The numbers are vastly higher.

Right on, Andrew! I’m looking into Oriveda now and trying Cordyceps as well! Excited to share the results 😁 When you say the “numbers are vastly higher” what do you mean?

I used the powder and I took it 3 times a day, and I felt it within 4 days and it keeps coming. I'm not sure why the capsule says to only take 2 once a day. I'm not sure if it's concentrated, but I know the use of the powder 3 times a day is very very noticeable.

Hate to be a downer, but pollution in North America is actually very high . Maybe not in comparison to China, but we’re off the charts with particulate and nano-partoculate pollution.

Try more grams(5+) of lions mane. do it fresh and dry yourself, grind it up and use it in a tea or something instead of just buying the supplements

You were using a weak brand of lions mane. I suggest you try oriveda lions mane. Ive taken it before it there's a huge difference in the quality of the product and memory/focus/processing speed. It's from the netherlands and it's an alcohol/water extract of both the fruiting body and mycelium (grown in a liquid substrate), they actually tell you how much of the active ingredients are in the capsules. It's a bit pricey, but one package will last 2 to 4 months depending on your dose. Great stuff

That’s super helpful information! Thanks so much Memphis! Will have to redo this experiment with better brands. Cheers! ✌️

personally I think you are better off growing it, then dry it, grind it and mix with spices that you add to food, soup etc...nothing like the "real thing"...all that "you gotta extract it" is non sense...I've been on it for about a month and it's amazing for me...unlimited energy, reduced appetite, deep sleep, little cravings for sugar or booze...good luck to all

@@ShoshinShow Thank you...I just started a bit of Chaga in the morning coffee, yes commerical and ground, but with amazing effects...it's interesting when I eat something now I get a huge rush of energy...what is becoming more evident is the human body needs fungus! Like the earth, what is below the ground is a world on it own...that Paul Stamets is the mushroom guru, check out his stuff on you tube...

Make sure the ingredients have fruiting bodies in it 👍🤙 how are you tracking “differences”? I wonder if clear quantitative and qualitative goals will help illuminate effects.

you should get the fruiting powder va the mycelium. the myceilum can get diluted due to the substrate material it grows on..

Thanks Tracy! Makes sense. I wonder if that's the only difference. I did an experiment to see how different the results of fruiting body vs. mycelium would be: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7l9ramd0rObgHU.html (cordyceps)
