Features: If you use fire wood, the log splitter built by Jerry Inkster makes splitting logs for fire wood extremely easy. Inkster built his hydraulically powered splitter to handle big logs and do the job in one pass. The blade is made out of grader blade. He has found the shear blade shatters the end of the wood so well that it dries green wood twice a fast allowing him to burn it within 2 or 3 weeks of splitting it. He cuts up about 20 cords of wood each year to heat his house and shop plus sell some locally.

Nice setup. I’m from Vermont but lived in Dauphin for a year when I was a kid. My father built a big power transmission line there in 1975. I will always remember how cold and snowy it was up there.

This has to be the best video I have ever seen on KZfaq on the subject matter. Just a little bit crude with a little ingenuity yields a cut all wood in any condition. Ready for the stomach of Lucifer furnace. Job well done.

The math at 1500 psi says 42411 pounds so with 2000 pounds in a ton that's a little over 21 ton

is what my math says too. But at 2250 which most modern farm equipment runs at he would achieve around 31 ton. You would need 3200 PSI to get 45 ton out of this unit.

Needs a pump with 4 times the flow rate, make that work cycle snappy.

Or a 2" ram next to the 6" to bring it down to cutting height with the big one on a cavitation valve.

needs a high flow and a low flow pump for the same engine, the high flow brings it up to working height, as soon as it builds up pressure the low flow pump takes over

It's a custom one-off machine. You would have to have someone quote you a price on building something custom like it if you can't do it yourself.

Love that you kill 2 birds with one stone on your ideas and principles. Only changes I'd make is a pto hydraulic pump and another exiting conveyor to really make it go also 3 braid hydraulic hose and cover it with old fire hose since it sits all summer in the sun I presume. Nice work.!!

Hydraulics are pretty cut and dried. Using the numbers he gave, 6 inch cylinder at 1500 PSI, he has 42411 lbs of pressure. Just over 21 tons instead of the 45 tons assumed. here is a link to a calculator to save the drama. www.baumhydraulics.com/calculators/cyl_calc.htm

Many people who burn don't really understand the mechanics of the whole system. I'd love to have about 5 cords of that a year to go in with my hardwood.

Running an electric hydraulic pump would be greener and cheaper and replacing the inefficient choice for a gassifier or rocket stove would make a world of difference!

I give him credit for building it, but he's not much as a designer/fabricator. The build shows only a cursory understanding of metalworking tools while the actual engineering goes too long on some features and too short on others. I work with different engineers to help me design machines, and fabrication shops for outsourcing components that I lack the skill/expertise/equipment to do. Yes, this costs money and time. But when the machine is finished, there is the satisfaction that you did it once, and did it right. Although it may not sound like it, I am trying to be helpful, and not critical.

I will be posting one in less than a year. It is completed, but need paint, assembly, and testing. It weighs 5 tons, and has an engineered hydraulic system with German components. It runs on a tandem pump driven by a 55 HP Deutz diesel. It was designed and built around the real world challenges of processing everything we get as a Chicagoland tree service. Including six foot dia. logs. I worked with Lincoln welding company on some of the superstructure. Stay tuned!

@@northerniltree In less than a year? lol. Money talks bullshit walks. Ive been USING my machine for YEARS now. My " only cursory " knowledge of tools and steel has allowed me to build numerous trailers, truck decks, stump grinders , tree shears, dozer blades, tracks for skid steers, overhead cranes, and numerous other machines THAT I SUCCESSFULLY DESIGN AND FABRICATE MYSELF. I dont spend tons of money consulting with " engineers" and such. As clearly stated in my interview, I built this very efficient and well working machine out of VARIOUS existing SCRAP at hand in my shop and prefabricated parts from a local shop THAT were rejects. Why on earth would I spend days or weeks RE designing and RE structuring components that I got for FREE??. IF you EVER do produce an actual machine that works...to POST and show to people..with the way you bloviate...YOU'LL have 100 GRAND into it ...using your fancy engineers and powder coating facilities....and making sure EVERYTHING is meticulously cut, fitted, welded, and painted so as to make all blowhards like YOU happy...lol. I on the otherhand...am quite happy to show people the machine that a self taught, rough around the edges.. bush man built..that actually puts useable wood on the ground to keep us warm. Incidentally I have since DESIGNED AND BUILT a winch to pull trees to and up on the deck and a conveyor to take the wood up on a pile. Maybe you'll give me permission to post a video of those poorly built additions ( not too pretty and NOT engineered and fancy painted). I learned a LONG time ago. PRETTY doesnt make you money. RELIABILITY AND DESIRE TO SUCCEED DOES. Im sure LOTS are anticipating the unveiling of your 100 grand machine and photos of your engineering team. THEY'VE ALREADY seen mine. And i only spent 1-2 grand NOT counting my time and Jack Daniels....
