The load of big Oak rounds I brought back from the farm are heading to Wolfe Ridge Manufacturing for testing a new splitting wedge design. This new game changing wedge design is not only awesome to look at it gets the job done splitting larger rounds into a mix of split sizes in just ONE pass.
Check out the Wolfe Ridge MFG channel and be sure to subscribe. / @wolferidgesplitters
Was another great time visiting with Chris at Wolfe Ridge and seeing this new wedge in action.
Hope to see all you wood hounds on the Friday Night Back 40 Live Streams at 8:00 pm cst.

Great to see cutting edge demonstrations like this. Hopefully it's a big success for the company. Although I prefer the way my Powersplit handles thinner cuts better than anything, for production sake this might be a little faster. As far as the skidsteer splitter goes, it's not my cup of tea. Thanks for posting another great video.

That would be great if all the rounds we're that perfect size. The only advantage I see in a multi wedge like that is the additional kindling that is made. Not too bad for high production to load directly into a dumptruck to be dumped onto a driveway. But, to each their own, whatever works for you, and your budget.

Great idea but I have learned by trying to make one for myself that they need to be made out of high carbon steel like AR400 or AR500 or it will just bend. I have a Timberwolf TW-5 with the 6-way splitter and it works amazing.

We have had rain just about every day or two for the last two weeks. I have nothing but mud to work in so as soon as it dries on top I’ll be stacking mine as well. May be ok by this afternoon, rain stopped yesterday morning. I too have to work hard to hit that 12” to 15” window. I don’t even have them blocked yet. Yep... I’m right on schedule. Lol Good video man.
@Back40Firewood
@Back40Firewood 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that size window was tough for me as well....I either had to go way bigger - in which I'd have less rounds to split, or go slightly under on a few...I went with the somewhat smaller size and more rounds. I think a 10" average should be good. Good luck with the drying out and gathering up my friend.

Thats a MAD MAX style wood wedge LOL! That thing is wild! Plus you got your wood split for free LOL cool video! Im not engineer but it looks to be like the top side wedges are angled very high up in the air which seems like its causing a lot of drag! The top part of the round was almost vertical coming out the wedge, I wonder if they were more parallel to the deck they would split easier?

I know how to bend or snap that skid steer splitter cuz I have done it. In fact I may have the dry piece of ash that did it still laying around. I like the wicked design better than the 18 way (that sounded like something was going to explode when wood was pushed through). I wonder if a box wedge produces less scrap even though it requires multi-pass? Coming from a two-way only splitter (hydraulic and manual) guy, that looked like the potential for a lot of scrap in with the firewood.

Yeah, why would you want a box wedge that has to cycle 4 times when you have have a single multi-way wedge that takes 3 times as long to cycle and makes wildly uneven splits!? These big multi-way wedges just seem so crazy when the box wedges make uniform sizes with less labor. This isn't a dig on Back 40 to be clear.
@rickhettwer854

I think this is getting to be a little bit over done. I like my wood to be split with smooth edges , not sheared into tiny pieces. Maybe a good simple 4 way wedge is all that is needed. a little bit more time to split it, but the end product is way better, and much less stress on the machine... Just my opinion.
