I'm a new subscriber, so I'm playing catch up, what is the length and brand of your tow boat, is it gas or diesel? Is it stern drive or inboard, how much HP? How is that tow pylon attached to your hull?
@ifishcatfish

dont know much about boats,but i guarantee thats a diesel!
@StuckBuckinaTruck
@StuckBuckinaTruck 2 жыл бұрын
I’m from the other side of the US so I’m not a fiberglass expert, (most of our boats are aluminum jet boats) but I would guess this is a 20-25ft Boston whaler of some flavor. Looks like a V-drive being that the motor cover is in the center of the boat. And it’s definitely a diesel. H-bitts are usually tied into structural parts through out the length of the hull, this one looks like it was custom built.

Actually after looking at the interior a little better I think it may be a shamrock. I believe in the late 80s to early 90s they had a 26ft cuddy that looked very similar to the layout of this one but I may be wrong.

Does this do any damage to props or shafts? Great content!
@CaptKenO
@CaptKenO 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nic! Towing them through the sand/mud won't damage them anymore than the damage caused (if any) when they hit under power. About the only issue most boats have is if they try to free themselves once they're hard aground and suck up sand into the intakes. I've had plenty of boats where I free them, they start going and within 15min they're calling me back because one or more engines are overheating
@nicvanorton6795
@nicvanorton6795 2 жыл бұрын
@@CaptKenO I guess that makes sense especially with a soft bottom. I recently ran aground at a very slow speed, bumped my twin screws in and out of gear in reverse and got free. First and hopefully last time that happens! Had a slight vibration after that but it eventually went away so Im guessing something was out of balance. Thanks for the info!

Did the captain of the stuck boat not try and pull the anchor in with his electric windlass-if the anchor was so stuck fast it might have helped a bit and inched his boat forwards………??
@CaptKenO
@CaptKenO 2 жыл бұрын
I think that's why the anchor was so stuck is because he tried that. With the boat being as stuck as it was there was no way the windlass would be able to pull that boat off

Wouldn't it be better if you tie closer to the boat that way when you're in just throwing all that weight under it and lift that boat up and then you'll be able to pull it off the shore
@CaptKenO
@CaptKenO 2 жыл бұрын
When pulling, the stern of my boat sinks down, so if I was closer my prop would be running through the bottom. Also, since I'm lower down than he was, I'd be pulling the bow down on his boat making him even more stuck.

There's enough of you asking for that video I'll make one sometime when I get a bit slower with the tows. For now, the big boat is a 26ft shamrock with a yanmar diesel (drawing a blank on the engine model) and the little boat I believe is a 20ft shamrock with a 327, but don't quote me on that
