Visiting the Château de Jumilhac last week gave us a better understanding of the materials used in the region's old buildings. While we're not renovating a château, it's fascinating to learn about the types of stones and building techniques used around here. It's an inspiration that helps us envision what our farmhouse could look like once it's restored to its former glory. This week, Philippe is back at it, removing the rest of the cement render to reveal the story the stones want to tell. Disaster strikes as Philippe hits a main waterline hidden behind the cement render. What a spot to put the main line that goes to the kitchen and bathroom! We had no choice but to fix it. We also got fiber internet installed, making a big difference in uploading our videos. This means a new network cable needs to be pulled from the network gear box in the new barn all the way to our working desk in the farmhouse. Between rain showers and thunderstorms, the cement render is slowly but surely getting removed. Check out the video for a before-and-after overview!

As a writer who felt obligated to work on America's democratic (and Democratic Party) crisis with a 7500 word essay, I pay tribute to your practical skills in all apects of the farm restoration. I once did a little stint as a property manager, "dabbling" in some basic plumbing but nothing like yours. Great job.

I really appreciate the way that you think and apply your work Philippe, with good humour. In regards to the exterior 'plumbing' job , in Canada we would call it "a cowboy job", "slapped together", or frankly "a shit show". 😂😂 Looking forward to when it is all made right.

Picking out the rendering with the small hammer drill? must've taken forever. But it's absolutely transformed it - it looks superb. Sorry, but the plastic main door offends me. 😂 so KZfaq objected to the new Sauvage fibre !? Perhaps YT checking took ~3 hours, the same as Starlink upload time, so you didn't notice it, but with fibre uploading it in 5 minutes, now you do 🤔 Sounds like you "plumb" networks as well Philippe ?! Love the drone shots - it all looks beautiful 😊

Hey Daytona, ah yes the big machine is too big to get in the little holes. The plastic main door offends us as well but i cant be too negative on video or i will get remarks for it 😂 It has been going for 24 hours now but we had a chat with KZfaq and they said ignore it and just publish it will eventually sort itself out so that's what we did. In my younger years i worked one year in the IT business so i have always liked technology 😎

technic wire between Home and barn : May i suggest to add a "waterproof wire"" to hang all wires for Heavy Winds in order to preserve the quality the wires. Bon courage and stay safe.
@DomaineSauvage
@DomaineSauvage Ай бұрын
Hey Jean-Marie, i have to start writing down your suggestions because you are right they do sway in the wind and might start fraying if they rub too much. I will try to remember and see if i can put a temporary cable to take away the stress on the other ones.
@jean-marievennin8405
@jean-marievennin8405 Ай бұрын
@@DomaineSauvage Oh yes, but may i suggest that you place the "waterproof wire" and on hang on it a goutter with all the wires inside. That could be better than a pipe (150mm diam)because you have not to disconnect ALL the wires in that case. The gutter must have holes (water evacuation) every 300 or 400mm.

Ah Wayne!! I was wondering where you were! I see people come and go in the comments but always great to see them come back! Yeah that main water is the smallest you could get 😂 like i said in the video the last few years they rented out this place so all that was put in was to keep it cheap, maybe they should just have drawn some lines on the wall and the water could follow it 😂

You have made such amazing progress. Your farmhouse is going to be so impressive. The trouble with disasters, like breaking into the main waterline, there are no polite ways to describe the idiot who put the pipe in the cement. Just to make you smile, when the original owner of my house built the addition to the house, he nailed it directly to the outside of the main house without even removing the shingles!!! He just cut a door through the wall and nailed the framing to the outside!! 🤷🤷🤷 I don't want to think he was drunk as a skunk, but I have my doubts! I didn't find out until about five years after I bought the house! 🤦🤦🤦 Please, just shake your head and laugh. With the rain, at least you won't run out of water this summer. Fire danger ought to be minimal. It looks beautiful! Good job!

As for the fix for the waterline, I suggest you get a couple different size extra long drill bits and drill at an angle from the inside out to end up in the cement hole where the water meter is located. This would be much easier than trying to drill from the hole to the inside of the house.

Many thanks it’s always great to see brining old equipment back to life. Hopefully you can get it going as it would be an asset to the farm . By the way the rendering on the farm house looks so much better with the concrete removed. Well done looking forward to the next video

Most of the rubble is going to go under the parking space behind the barns, but in the beginning when i was cleaning up a lot of "shit" i was going there a good few times fully loaded. They don't like it when you bring that much but i rearranged some containers so it could all fit and it was all fine since then 😆 Yeah a lot of the old buildings with render have these fake corner stones 😉getting those beautiful yellow natural stones around the windows is an ok job, but putting corner stone in mean you have too demolish a big part and rebuild.

With your Aussie background … you may enjoy a poem that is a great favourite of mine. Just search for Said Hanrahan. It reads in part (about rain): And stop it did, in God's good time; And spring came in to fold A mantle o'er the hills sublime Of green and pink and gold. In God’s good time …

I have a motto for any projects around the house, anything worth doing, is worth overdoing! it probably costs me more money, but it is worth it knowing my work wont fail, because in 35 years nothing ever has! Do you have access from the basement to below the bathroom and kitchen etc and will that make it any easier for you when you re-plumb the main supply to the house? Do you have any plans to restore the large window in the living room now that you will need to replace some of the damaged stone anyway? Great work this week Philippe, shame you had to repair someone else substandard work
@DomaineSauvage
@DomaineSauvage 23 күн бұрын
Hey Scott, In the end it will save you more money! When we redo the farmhouse we are going to strip the inside completely and we will most likely get rid of the basement since it adds more complexity and we have enough space with all the barns together. We would like to give all the windows those yellow natural stone as surround.

I really enjoy your videos! Can I ask why you decided to remove the rendering? It looks amazing gone but is it because you wanted to restore the look of the old farmhouse or was it causing problems? You are such a hardworker! Not sure if it is editing but you make it look effortless although I am sure it is a lot of work!
@DomaineSauvage
@DomaineSauvage Ай бұрын
Hey Ann, the render causes moisture problems because cement doesn't let water through and these walls stand with their feet on the ground so they soak water up and it has nowhere to go causing problems. Modern buildings have a vapor barrier so the moisture from the ground cant go up in the walls and then you can render with whatever you want.
