Let's learn how to propagate succulent stem babies with proper care tips for before and after cutting them off the mother plant. Can you do this cutting during the heat of the summer (93 degrees)? If I keep out of the full sun until the roots are fully bushy looking, then add to a pot that has morning till 3 pm full sun?

Thank you for this helpful video. I love seeing your daughter's interest in succulents, wanting to be so helpful! I know I need to move my grow lights closer to my succulents. When you move the light closer to your plants, how long do you watch them till you know they are okay, that the new closeness of the light is not going to burn them? When I installed the grow lights, I was checking every 20-30 minutes to make certain that they would not burn from the new closeness and strength of the grow lights. I literally paused all things for days. I wonder if it does not take that long, that I can relax and just check for their general health, cleaning, and bugs and not worry about their burning.

It will take at least a day or more before you start to see if the succulents are too close and burning. You will actually notice them wilt a bit before it burns.

Generally, they shouldn't burn under unless they are practically touching the lights. It should be fine. Check after 1 a day or 2, and if no burns or major signs of wilting, your succulents should be fine. 😊

So what was the name of the succulent with the woody stem? Also why do some grow woody stems and others don’t ?

I actually mis ID'd in the video. It's called echeveria runyonii 'Lucita'. Most succulents grow woody stems as they mature. Why some don't, I don't know...

I found a baby that was pulled out from the mother stem with no roots. Just that big thick attachment. How Can I grow it?

Just go ahead and plant it in dry soil. Check for roots in about a week or two. As soon as you see a little root, water just a little and go from there. Make sure to keep in a bright shaded area until it roots and takes in water.

Dry potting soil will work just to root it. But eventually, when it needs to be watered, you will still have to transfer to well draining soil...

Im so scared, i hope you respond. How do i make sure i dont kill my mother plant when i trim the babies off? Its so healthy with so many babies and im absolutely terrified to cut them because i dont want to kill the healthy mother plant. Help 😢

Just make sure after you cut, to keep the areas you cut clean. Taking the babies off doesn't kill the mother plant unless a lot of moisture gets into the open wounds before they dry. Just keep mother plant in a dry area where it wont get wet for a few days after cutting. It will be just fine.
