We took my brother and his new wife on a whirlwind tour of NYC when they visited this Spring. She's new to the US so it was a pleasure to show her my favorite city, NYC, where I've lived for 27 years. Their flight was cancelled so they lost a day, only giving them 48 hours to see as much as they could. One thing I never get sick of, is giving tours of NYC, so I got a list of 'must see' places from them and we filled in the gaps.
The night they arrived their plane was late so we took them for late night eats and NYC's BEST Food truck in the city. It's actually a food cart and it's so good others are copying their name.
1. Halal Guys on 53rd and 6th avenue has the best Halal cart, you'll see about 4 claiming to be Halal guys, but there will be a line at the real one...anytime of night. It's worth the wait.
2. The next morning we went to Central Park. My favorite place to take guests is probably the area where the most classic movies scene of Central Park are filmed, Bethesda Terrace & fountain. This is located in the middle of the park at 72nd street. Bethesda Terrace is located at the north end of the long, tree-lined promenade known as the Mall where you can buy art, watch musicians & see performers (72nd street), right in the middle of the park. The terrace overlooks the Ramble and the Lake. In addition to fabulous views of the Bethesda Fountain and boathouse pond, you can rent a row boat.
3. Row boat rentals: The Loeb Boathouse has partially reopened and the rowboats are available to rent as of June 17, 2023. They are working on an online reservation system, for now it's first come, first serve. They only take cash, it's $25 an hour a $20 deposit. There is no ATM nearby so be sure to bring cash with you.

4. Strawberry Fields: Close to the Bethesda Terrace you can walk over to John Lennon's memorial, Strawberry Fields. The memorial is near the West 72nd Street entrance. The main part is the Imagine mosaic, where many come to pay tribute to Lennon. There are 5 acres as part of this memorial but the mosaic is the focus. Across the street you can see the Dakota Building where he lived. Rosemary's Baby was also filmed in this gorgeous building.
