Welcome to the beautiful Panama City! Let's explore Casco Viejo, the historic district of Panama, Ancon Hill and the rooftop bar scene of Panama City, Panama.
Panama City is the first place we visited on our backpacking trip through Central America and we were surprised at just how much we enjoyed it! We booked the flight to Panama City just a week before visiting and we hadn't planned anything for our time there. Turns out - Panama City is beautiful and there is plenty to keep you occupied!
We stayed at the Casa Magnolia Inn, located in the heart of Casco Viejo, which was the perfect base.
Here is how we spent 48 hours in Panama City:
⛰️ Hike Ancón Hill - this beautiful hill transports you straight to the jungle while remaining within city limits. A short, moderate hike to the top will give you beautiful views over Panama City and if you are lucky you may even spot some wildlife on your way! We found three beautiful sloths 🦥
⛪️ Visit Casco Viejo, or stay there and explore it! We spent 3 nights in the Magnolia Inn and it was such a stunning property and one of the most luxurious hostels I have stayed in. This was the perfect base to explore the historical city area, full of stunning buildings and interesting history!
🚶Take a free walking tour - if you simply google free walking tour Panama City, you’ll find there are plenty of options to explore the area and learn a thing or two in the process!
🥂 Visit one of the many rooftop bars - Panama City seems to have quite a lively hospitality scene and a rooftop bar was one of the best ways to experience it! We visited Tantalo during happy hour and 2 beers and a cocktail cost us $11 usd. The service was amazing and the views even better!
🍽️ Get lunch at Snack Shack - this quaint, outdoor inspired cafe was the perfect lunch spot! We visited two days in a row and had the best fish tacos we have ever experienced! Two meals with drinks averaged around $25-30
🌴 Visit the Cinta Costera Park and waterfront - this waterfront walk is a beautiful trail!
🍷Stop by Corcho for a 3.50 glass of wine - we visited while it was raining and it was so nice sitting in the window and watching the world go by
🚢 We also spent some time learning about the history of the Panama Canal. Since we are on a budget we didn’t visit the museum or take a tour but that would be great if you have the means!
