To any high schoolers who may be watching this video and seeing the comments: reattacking is the number one skill that will separate you from everyone else in high school

That and scrambling skills like funk rolls, danger rolls, crack down stuff etc. I've noticed those two skills seem to be what derermines a score at the highest levels.

100% agree, one of the biggest differences between good HS wrestlers and elite HS wrestlers: Chain wrestling more broadly... re-attacks off of your opponents attacks, re-attacks off of your own failed attacks, chaining escapes and reversals together, chaining turns and pins together, etc.

It’s crazy because my sprawls were so explosive, I was never in a position to attack. I had to learn how to just 👌make it out of the way, then attack with my own shot or go behind. Ruff stuff to teach a kid that didn’t have the gas tank for it you know.

The thing I love most about wrestling. We can have skill and technique, but the mentality and desire to keep going and attacking will make the good wrestlers elite.

Even though he didn’t score and that is probably why it isn’t in this video, I feel that Aaron Brooks’ reattack in the third period is one of the best at the NCAA’s this year.

It’s impressive to see how the attacker stays on their knees long enough for the re-attack to take place.

Most all of the counter attacks are setup from the offensive man initiating a poor shot. This mostly comes from poor drilling when you do not complete a takedown for at least two points. When you do that you have trained yourself to stop prematurely. The muscle memory comes back to bite you.

The prefix “re” means again; anew; back. These attacks are not re-attacks. A re-attack is when you take a second or third shot (or any offensive move) in a sequence. “Counter Attack” is a better term, which is defined as: an attack made in response to one by an enemy or opponent.

While I can't really argue with your logic, "re-attack" is the widely used term in the wrestling world for this exact type of counter attack.
@derek91362
@derek91362 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you wholeheartedly on both counts. The other reply as to the usage of "re-attack" is also true. We in wrestling do have an issue with terminology. Happens all the time. How many times do you hear people say, I went to the match last night when they mean MEET.

Some of these just look like go-behinds. Can anyone explain the difference?
@DPSBreakdowns
@DPSBreakdowns 2 жыл бұрын
A "re-attack" in wrestling parlance is a counter attack. You are right that many of these examples are go-behinds, which is a basic (and highly effective) way to counter an opponent's offensive attempt. Don't think of a re-attack as a "move," but rather as a concept that can take on many different forms (whip overs, go-behinds, arm drags to the back, single legs, double legs, etc.). A key takeaway is that your opponent will often be most vulnerable to an attack immediately after an offensive attempt of their own. If you want to improve your offensive attacks, work on developing the ability/timing/intuition to attack immediately after you are attacked. Hope that helps.
