Whether someone has committed a crime or not is a poor excuse for actual evidence they committed the specific crime I’m question…. Fortunately people much smarter than you designed our justice system. It’s much better to have some criminals go free than to have tons of innocent people convicted of crimes they didn’t commit. And I’m a former cop, I get what ur saying, but there are lots of cases where someone is identified as a suspect based on their past convictions and they turn out to be innocent, which is why details of former crimes aren’t allowed. They can be used for sentencing tho which is the important part.

@@WideAwakeHuman You are absolutely right. Decision whether a suspect is guilty or not should be made based on hard evidence only, not biased by suspect's previous deeds, their racial, social or any other background. Otherwise we might be looking for a scapegoat good enough to be put behind bars while the real perpetrator roams free and commits more crimes. No legal system is perfect and even hardest punishment won't reverse the evil done, but emotions aren't the good advisor during trial. I find some of these real crime shows (48 hours being the best example of that) trying to induce too much emotions while being less focused on actual detectives' work and forensic procedures.

No one should be allowed to become a HABITUAL sex offender. If someone is convicted of multiple sexual offenses, they should go to prison for life. Women and children aren’t yet valued enough by the system to offer that protection. I cannot fathom it. Makes me ill.

Look up Semeon Tesfamarian and his attack on US Olympian Kim Glass and ask yourself why is it that this violent, repeat offender wasn't behind bars?

The real issue is that WOMEN overwhelming support a political party that is SOFT on crime and literally let's violent criminals flow over the border unchecked while allowing them back out on the streets even after multiple arrests and victims. Do some research on the Kim Glass attack and ask yourself why such a violent, repeat offender was out on parole. Kim is a beautiful and talent black woman who also happens to be a US Olympian, yet the mainstream media glossed over her horrific attack. The reason why her attacker was walking feee is simply that the majority of women literally vote against their own interest, much like blacks do, all because they've been bombarded with far left propaganda their entire lives. Their opinions are not based in fact, but rather what the talking heads read off their teleprompters.

The boys who saw the murderer were strong young men who were very lucky I think especially considering their ages and the guys criminal record they were teens I’m sure he was a lot bigger than they were at the time 😢

A big Salute to Ms. Colleen Fitzpatrick. The lady was underestimated and was not given the due credit in solving the extremely hot cold case. In my opinion, Ms. Colleen Fitzpatrick needs undoubtedly a Nobel Prize for her amazing contribution in the field of Forensic Genetic Genealogy (FGG) for solving violent crimes and cold cases.

We can do nothing about the horror that happened. But the fact that her life was surrounded with these people who loved, cherished and will remember and adore her shows what a magnificent person she was and that the horrible piece of garbage can't change that for one second. Not one second!

Your chances of escape by jumping into the water are far greater than lying there doing nothing. Never surrender, never give up. Fight back, it may provide the opportunity to escape.

Vote these people out and replace with a police and judicial system that will lock dangerous felons up, not out on a small bail, throws away the key, not lets them back out to re offend. My County in MS does exactly that and we border the most corrupt city in USA: Memphis. Liberal just like WA and they have had over 65,000 auto thefts i n 9 months and several murders daily. Our legal system often are just as evil as the criminals. DA’s and judges are not held accountable to enforce the established rule of law. Blind lady justice is a joke in this country. In my area of California a homeless man beat up a homeowner when caught vandalizing the homeowner property. The police don’t even take him to jail. Just wrote him a ticket to appear in court. Same homeless man 6 months later threw a rock a broke the lighted sign in front of the police station. He received 6 years in prison for that.

The "weed cases" have largely to do with cultural prejudice based on ignorance (in the US), and the system, for some reason, exploits that. Even in some documentaries I frequently hear presenters and commentators making a close connection between the crime and the use of marijuana. Nobody, unless thety are completely disinformed, thinks that the use of marijuana generates violent and murderous dispositions. I don't use it, but some of my friends do, and all of thenm are nice, normal, well-functioning people, who study, work and have families, with no trace of violent dispositions whatsoever. And here I include men and women. And, as you say - and that's true - many times a marijuana user gets a much tougher sentence than a rapist.

My spouse was teaching at Federal Way High School when Sarah was killed. It was my understanding that a jogger actually saw the monster and Sarah in the bushes and he thought they were making out and “minded his own business.” That wasn’t touched on in this documentary.

The right to an attorney for all defendants is a necessary part of a fair legal process. If you were falsely accused of a serious crime, and everyone refused to represent you because "they think you may have done it," I bet you would be begging for an attorney. It is a big boom but is quietly introduce in society to prevent people becoming too alarm. There are current studies that show some people present with stronger violent markers in their genetic makeup that would lead to develop violent tendencies; however will people not procreate if they know their offspring can be a threat to society? Let's say two people when their genetic material mix their offspring has a high probability of psychopathic tendencies; how will society control and manage such threat? Currently people with schizophrenia and bipolar have a 50% chance of having an offspring with that same disease however they still reproduce knowing the risk and burden on their offspring. The field of genetics comes coupled with ethics and this will give rise to societies coming together based on their goals and views of what type of communities they want to build.

Even after 3 1/2 years in prison, holding back his impulsive desires, he still committed this terrible crime after his release. It never goes away. Due to overcrowding some inmates are let out of prison years before the time they should have served. This should NEVER happen with violent offenders who need to be in a place far away from society. If the court system handled all the non-violent drug & alcohol related crimes more appropriately there would be plenty of room to incarcerate predators (who are routinely given plenty of second-chances) and repeat offenders. The Federal government has taskforces wasting billions of dollars filling prisons with drug criminals (the guy who may have sold 'a bag of weed' to kids like the skateboarders in this segment)... THAT has been the target demographic of our government over the past 30+ years... not processing rape kits and getting violent offenders incarcerated.

Yeah, and no matter how crowded a prison is, a rapist sentenced to 10 years, should never be out after 3.5 years. No wonder the justice system doesn't tell the victims, that's shame right there.

"Thank god for science" hehehe - I know what you mean but that made me laugh. Belief in God has been the enemy of science for 1000 years. Most recently Bush banned stem cell research under pressure from the religious right. In Europe, it was illegal to try and understand how the body worked for centuries. Sickness was punishment from god. So thank science for science and if we started taxing religions and using the money for science we'd cure cancer in a decade.

He should have been left locked up for the rest of his life , it would have saved this young woman’s life. Familial searching should be allowed. I made an express choice when uploading my DNA in the UK - knowing if I had a criminal relative they would be caught; I thought about my upload carefully and made an informed choice. I am so sorry to the family here - she was such a lovely 16 year old with her whole life ahead of her.

DNA in 1991 was a joke, and unlike now, most states didn't require convicts to give up their DNA. In fact, I'd be interested in knowing if any of the states did.

I loved in Port Orchard, WA in 1991 about an hour away from Federal Way. I remember this case, I was a Mother of a young daughter age 8 and a son age 2... soon I would be pregnant with my second son. I vividly remember the chill knowing how close evil was. I'm so grateful to all of those who never gave up on Sarah's case. I'm so grateful for the new technology that found and was able to punish such a Monster. Sarah left a legacy of an incredibly wonderful and strong family and friends that will never forget her or let her memory and life be forgotten. May God Bless You all and continue to help you heal and find peace 🕊️🕊️ Rest in Peace Sarah, you will forever be loved. Legislation must change all across America to not only allow and support the amazing technology of Familial Genealogy BUT allow in every case a Monster's previous criminal history to be presented in Court. It's absolutely the right thing to do.

Per usual the detectives got so much thanks. They couldn't solve it for two decades until a scientist gave them the name they needed. They rarely solve anything until someone else gives them the tip or confesses or does the science. The man should have never been on the streets, and they should have never missed it when it happened. How did they not look for him?

My Grandparents farmed in Blaine area and when WW2 started and the American government was stealing Japanese Americans from their farms to put into concentration camps my Grampa protected his friends and neighbors lands until they were rightfully returned ❤️ we are still close to this day. Clearly, your grandparents' values filtered down to future generations, so that's great! More connections: Since 2012, Vancouver BC has become my favorite place to visit. True crime stories in Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia have interested me the most, because I can actually picture the locations of the crimes (making the stories more relatable, than say stories in North Carolina or Virginia, where I have so little connection to). And, cat lovers ROCK!! I certainly can also relate to KOMO, KING, KIRO, KCPQ, our local affiliates who carried this tragic story.
