You have given me so many useful tips, i'm happy I can give you one in return! (I know that throttle body may be in the trash already for your ITBs) The screwdriver propping the throttle body butterfly valve is high-risk of bending the valve. It's a known NA miata issue, they have a coating that is also damaged on the blade of the valve. it could bend bad enough to leak more than the idle set screw can adjust for, and at that point the TB is kind-of trashed! I have had success propping the TB open (while cleaning etc) w. a screwdriver in the throttle wheel on most cars. Loving the podcast and your content, hope everything is going well and you're on-track for 86 day! Sad I moved to WA w/ my 86 before figuring out everyone was local in Fremont lol!!

Chris Van had his throttle blade snap in half on a track day with me once and thats how we learned. Also echoed by our local spec Miata guys. Lots of Toyota TB's have a "dashpot" to damped throttle closing, Chris's was adjust wrong so it did not work.

@@CMAutohaus i had an ah-ha moment, why people were snapping throttle cables drifting. Because the hard stop at WOT was improperly at the throttle body instead of at the pedal after swapping throttle bodies. Imagine riding a guardrail on WOT then snap, straightening out into the rail 😬 I haven't looked at 20v itbs but i think it hard stops first at the itbs from a video i watched today... Scary!

@@coreysmithcoreysz3254 Makes sense. I believe a few companies like GK Tech make adjustable pedal stops.

@@CMAutohaus i got off my butt and confirmed my 20v silvertop swapped ae86 hits a throttle body hard stop before the pedal. thanks for the gktech tip, have a good weekend and hope all is well at the autohaus!

Awesome video Ezekiel!! One thing I'm curious about is that you talked about the causes that can lead to the leak down, but you didn't show or explain how to do the leak down test. Very interested in that test. Great work like always!

what I want to see ? 1) head sent out to get ported with bigger valves 2) small cam upgrade 3) OER ITBs (something different lol)
@CMAutohaus
@CMAutohaus 2 жыл бұрын
OER carbs? I'm not for carbs sorry haha. Next episode, you'll see head has already been previously professionally ported. I've been running Poncams for the past 7 years also. I recall on a big port, the ports are already too big, so its recommended not to go O/S valves

How thick was that HKS head gasket? I feel like it's weird to have a standard thickness one.
@CMAutohaus
@CMAutohaus 2 жыл бұрын
Much too thick. 3mm IIRC. The plan was to run this ported head and that HG on my GZE Celica circa 7 years ago. I changed jobs and took a BIG pay cut (and had to sell all my toys) while building this engine the first time which is why I used the too thick HKS headgasket.
@HachiMiura
@HachiMiura 2 жыл бұрын
@@CMAutohaus Wow 3mm is really thick. Stock is 1.2mm isn't it? Getting some compression and squish back should liven it up.
@CMAutohaus
@CMAutohaus 2 жыл бұрын
@@HachiMiura Agreed. Happy to gain more compression. Although it will definity need a tune as even with the old HG, I used to ping frequently at low RPM high load on 91 octane

Gsxr itbs over silver top itbs?
@CMAutohaus
@CMAutohaus 2 жыл бұрын
More parts support, newer parts. 20v itbs are antiquated at this point - I've seen plenty of worn/sloppy OEM linkages with no parts support. I've been told the 42mm itbs VS blacktop/silver top will actually work better for a 16v
