4DSOUND is a new immersive system which allows for evolving changes in three-dimensional positioning of sound. An expansive array of speakers, a Max-based core, and custom Max for Live devices allow for sound to be positioned anywhere within the system’s space (and beyond).
In the video above, learn about the conception of 4DSOUND from founder Paul Oomen, plus follow musician Stimming as he prepares a custom performance for the system.
In the second video, learn how Ableton Live and Max for Live facilitate an artist’s control over 4DSOUND: • Interaction with 4DSOU...

in relation to 4D sound it would have to be ableton as it runs off max for live. If you are generally asking which you should go with then personally I prefer the workflow in Ableton. Some people prefer the workflow in logic. You need to try both. I would say though that ableton can be used more quickly by someone who's not used it before to get some sounds out, so if your competition is soon then I would probably go with Ableton.

I went to a show that 4D sound did during the Amsterdam music festival. Contacting them would be the only option. They are looking to take on an intern. 4dsound.net Phil W. Imagine it in theater. As a sound tech my mind melts at the possibilities this presents. Imagine being able to place the audience INSIDE of the play without actually extending the stage around them. With the push of a button.

imagine this coupled with a 4D Visual-light show! That would be fukin crazy, i want Flying Lotus to use this, I think his music would work great with this (including the 4D light show) like a light show that surrounds the place, as if u were in a lightbulb...awesome

I was thinking exactly the same.Not just 4d sound but light /visual effects, like the flylo's layer 3 screen not just in front of you but from all sides surrounding everyone. This is still the beginning.
@nick347b

THISRIGHTHEREISMYSWAG While LED screens are still 2D, lighting effects themselves are already 3D by nature. Lighting fixture placement, however, can technically range from 2D to 3D depending on whether there are overhead, side and/or rear fixtures in addition to a front array. Using the this project's use of the term '4D' as adding new layers of complexity to an existing 3D system, a surround lighting universe as you described could be considered "4D". That being said, Ricardo Pereira's idea of "4D" graphic visuals is coincidentally happening for the first time ever in about a month at a new music festival called 3DM, using massive wrap-around LED screens displaying in 3D. www.youredm.com/2014/08/07/3dm-to-be-worlds-first-3d-dance-music-festival/ facebook.com/video.php?v=455975401209035 facebook.com/video.php?v=453240754815833

So this is like surround sound, like 5.1, but instead of 5 sattelites you have 48 satelites. Right?
@frankholguin2534
@frankholguin2534 9 жыл бұрын
its not just about the amount of speakers, but the operator(DJ/Producer) can place 5 sounds at 5 speakers and simultaneously blends them together or rearrange what speaker they will be playing out of. Now expand that to 48 speakers. The next thing is to make this idea tiny and put it into headphones.
@MrHugosantos1982
@MrHugosantos1982 9 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I think on headphones you won't ever get that feel of surroundness. I am thinking the next big step with this idea would be to have this system on a much larger scale and have it applied all around a big music festival. There would be sounds and music everywhere, coming from all directions, instead of a wall of sound that comes from the DJ. I think it's their idea here, I just hope we can see this in very big scale if it can be done without big cost.
@frankholguin2534
@frankholguin2534 9 жыл бұрын
Hugo Santos If it takes off, they will do it at a very large scale, including stadiums/festivals. DJs are the mega rockstars now. Regarding the headphones, whatever can be made at large scale, can be done at the micro scale. Remember cell phones in the 80s. now look at the one in your pocket.
@broadgomez
@broadgomez 9 жыл бұрын
Its absolutely not the same in my opinion… The big difference is that a 5.1 surround system works properly only if the listener is positioned in the middle of the system, it means the spatial perception of the sound is listener-dependent. In a 4D Sound this is irrelevant because the 48 speakers are working together using a different mathematical concept to locate sounds in space, it means they are not "channels". Don't confuse "channels" with "speakers"…
@CracKaoss
@CracKaoss 9 жыл бұрын
Frank Holguin only trouble is it will be hell to do on a large scale, the reason festivals are still in stereo is so the entire crowd can hear the signal at the same time, speakers further back from the front are delayed so they are in phase with the front speakers, to get the full effect of this would be extremely difficult to do, but not completely impossible providing that the stage was in the centre of the crowd and the surround system circling the stage being delayed more as it goes further back. This would require a huge team of sound engineers and the pro equipment for large scale gigs just isn't advanced enough to handle a 48 speaker system yet. It would be more feasible in small scale with some sort of helmet thingy. But binaural recordings are becoming more advanced with in ear microphones anyway. We only have two ears and sound can be manipulated to imitate natural space. Love this idea but it just seems a bit too much effort.

Im aure it will take off. I meam based on just what i saw, it seems the whole experience is different/better than a regular venue type show. People will pay to have the best experiences at shows, i think the 4d system can meet those needs and maybe even raise the standard.
@georgeharris4144
@georgeharris4144 9 жыл бұрын
Leo Leon Yeah definitely, I think the demand would be there for this kind of experience. Though I don't think it's a hardware that will ever have universal application as it's quite niche, expensive and maybe not what you want for every set & kind of music. I guess another limitation would be finding an abundance of DJs & producers who are as technically gifted and determined as Stimmer, who could really get the most out of a 4D rig. But I can easily imagine one of these setup in all the big cities in a few years time.

For those who would like to have some fun with analogies and Futurismus, consider this: In H.G. Wells' The Time Machine mankind has devolved in two directions to become the elite but intellectually passive Eloi and the brutish light-fearing Morlocks. The Morlocks live underground amid the technologies that were put in place by long-ago techno-cultural industrialists building a carefree Utopia. The Morlocks have no more understanding of the design or development of the machines they hide among than do the Eloi whose lives the machines sustain. Both kinds of lives are the effects of long-passed creations. This video displaying the popularization of long-established 3D sound technology (4D is a commercial hyperbole) recalls to me how futuristic novels get the themes exactly right but not the forms into which these themes eventually will be realized in the future. Are we seeing both the Eloi and the Morlocks as a single integrated evolution?
