In this video, Ollie goes through the reasons why he's doing away with the 2.0L long rod that was originally planned for the 4G63 in his Evo 5 and moving towards a 2.3L Stroker setup.
Plenty more to come in terms of discussion and planning on this stage of the build but hope you enjoy this update video. Let us know in the comments how you'd build your perfect Evo engine?

The 2.3 Stroker is a very good option. That's the same setup in my Evo and it's very responsive. I've got an FP Green Turbo and GSC S2 Cams, Valves etc. Looking forward to seeing another video of your build.

i run a 2.2L 4g63 in my 8mr! i think its a way better option than a 2.3! i,d reconsider if you haven't started your build! i have a fp black turbo, GSC R2 cams, e85,etc...., 35psi, 410wkw! full boost just after 4k rpm! nice street set up

I have being running a 2.3L since 2009. various turbo setups... Recommend a 64mm turbo with street intake for daily....34psi is the minimum boost required If the turbo boost does not scare you then you are not making enough power.,..Anything less I might as well go on the amusement park rides .

Yeah I’m contemplating the two options at the moment as well and will be most likely going the long rod route. I’ll be excited to see how you like the 2.3!

Maximum Rev limit is determined by piston mean speed only. High Rod to Stroke ratio is a nice to have thing but it doesn't dictate where is the rev limiter going to be.

I feel your pain! This has been 3 and a bit years in the making! You can't rush these sorts of builds though. Otherwise if you do, you'll end up with sub-par results. Thanks for the kind words! I hope you like the build so far!

At Under 600hp atw a 2.3/100mm crank is ok and has best torque. Over that and the harmonics of a 2.3 start to shake the bottom end apart. A 2.2/94mm crank is the best all round setup as the harmonics are marginally worse than a 88mm and you get the best of both worlds as far as torque and ability to make outright power.
@devon5078
@devon5078 Жыл бұрын
i feel like if you paid the extra to have your rotating assembly balanced since you’d already be having to completely rebuild for a 2.3 stroker, just have it done professionally and get a better crank damper like fluidamper or ATI. just keep rpm’s low because its more spinning your internals at high speed that will break it apart vs how much power, a balanced 2.3 will make way over 600 as long as you arent ringing it to 9k+ rpms every time. keep ur rev limiter to about 8200 or below and then you get an extra .1 of displacement and its marginally cheaper than buying a 2.2 kit

@@ProjectRacecar 4k full boost RpM set to 8.6k and pulls so hard....no BS i have had the car 10 years 5 years at this power/ spec and NOTHING has gone past me on the road even super bikes get left behind on straight lines !! Things savage ....if you go stroker you won't rev very hard and you will be buying transfer boxes for fun as the extra low torque is a killer .....I'm going to put a 6466 on this motor soon see if I can make 800hp on vpower .

that would be a nice set up! but i think 4k full boost on a 2L a lil optimistic! my 2.2 fpBlack barely manages that! you make a good point about strokers eating drivetrains though haha! bigger turbo 2L set ups save that

Looking forward to more updates on this, I'm looking to buy an Evo 6 in the near future that I want to build the engine on and I'm trying to decide the same thing. Do I go 2.3L or keep it 2L for the "purity"
@ProjectRacecar
@ProjectRacecar 2 жыл бұрын
I'd be looking to get a 6 fairly soon and definitely before they become legal on the American market due to the crazy prices we are seeing right now! I decided to go 2.3 because it's going to be the best cost to performance fit for how I intend to use the car. Which will be mostly road use. I plan later to pair it with a G series or I've also been looking at a BW EFR 7670 which from what I've seen on a stroker, spools like stock. I'm not worried about keeping mine pure. If I was worried about that, I'd of bought a TME and restored it completely back to stock. I wanted to build my 5 and make the vision in my head come true. I'll be sure to keep up to date on here. Currently trying to get hold of a 100mm crank.
@cooolsimon282
@cooolsimon282 2 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectRacecar Yeah I'm thinking the next 6 months or so, it's been my dream for 10 years to own one and you know the price is going to orbit as soon as the Americans can import them. I remember when could find the Red TME's for £16,000 haha. If you've not seen, Adam LZ has just upgraded his Evo 5's turbo I think with a G Series and the spool is intense

@@cooolsimon282 yeah, I've been watching his content. Love his 5! And I may have to get hold of one of those stock location G25's. Mad the power they can make with so little lag! Keep us updated what you do with yours!

Get a very reputable engine builder. Also choose a good lightweight assembly. Make sure you cryo & WPC treat all moving parts and Your engine will last for a LONG TIME. TUNE,TUNE,TUNE, good engine management & DBW is also a great upgrade that will balance your engines performance in terms of your throttle responce and fuel burn. And for the record if you are using a 4g63 block it's technically a 2.1 not a 2.2. Do your math people.
@flamintasty
@flamintasty Ай бұрын
Wrong. On the 4G63 you do not want a lightweight assembly. Are you building a drag car? No, you’re not. So use a heavy crankshaft. Learn about ‘Moment of Inertia’ before telling people to get a lightweight assembly.
