Putting a 4g63 head on a 4g64 short block doesn’t make it a 2.4 stroker since you haven’t changed the stroke of the stock block. All it does is makes it a DOHC 4G64

I have used MMC stock diesel steel 93 mm crankshaft. It's just as strong as any aftermarket 94mm crankshaft. The benefit is that it's very cheap and you can use very thin head gasket which is a good thing for a high boosted engine...

Thank you for this video, ive been looking to do an evo build for awhile as ive found you get very good return for the amount of money you put into the car. Ive built a sr20 with vvl head with a 2.2 stroker and the rod to stroke ratio sits around 1.4 which is less than ideal when the head combo loves to live at 9000rpm and beyond its a harsh motor that has bad harmonics, hard on bearings too. As much as i love the s15 that the motor lives in, i think the evo is a better platform and ive been doing some research into these long rod motors. Really appreciate that you made this video and looks like 4g63 with 94mm crank and 153mm rods is the go paired with a 64 or 68mm turbo
@bdalchemist

I'm glad this helped. Upon further research you will discover good and bad about each engine. No 1 engine type does everything better than the rest. So you will need to find what works the best for what you will use the car for.

@bdalchemist appreciate the reply. Looking to have a nice street car. My s15 is more of a roll race/dig car. Makes 1000whp runs a 6870. Not exactly the best combo for light to light or even a spirited canyon run. This is the reason why I want to move to a different platform. Looking to do more hill runs/circuit driving with street manners. My conclusion would be a nice punchy 700-800whp on high boost for rolls and drag with low boost set approx 600hp for circuit use and street driving. We have e85 bowsers here in aus so it will be run full time on e85 with 9.0.1 compression. I was thinking of the 6466 paired with a 94mm crank and 153mm rods. Do you think the mivec head would be usefull or a non mivec head?

Hey, buddy. Just found your channel. Looks like you got some good info and you're definitely a smart dude. But... I believe it was MightCarMods that offered some tips for being a presenter, and the FIRST thing they said was Audio Quality was absolutely critical. Many people will put up with shaky cameras or low resolution, but what most people won't tolerate is having difficulty hearing the information being provided. Grab yourself a dedicated mic, and setup your video area to get rid of reverb, or just do voiceovers with a mic inside of a box with sound deadening inside. Works wonders to improve quality on the cheap

@@bdalchemist They were slightly popular to modify when the old ralliarts were new but not anymore. Probably won't see one in the shop if you haven't yet. They have some kind of variable exhaust timing but they're SOHC and don't hold a ton of boost stock.

I've got a question for ya :) I've got a 1984 Mitsubishi L300 4x4 Van factory fitted with the 4G63, (Single Cam non turbo Carby - G63B). I'm currently weighing up between a twin cam turbo conversion for the current engine or if i should just dohc turbo a 4g64. Power band needs to be between 2500rpm and 4500rpm, I guess the other alternative is the 4G54 sohc turbo (2.6L Sigma motor). I'm considering a super turbo compound setup to keep exhaust back pressure and temp low if required but would really like the shy away from water meth injection and e85 fuels due to the sheer amount of km's this van will do, and the remoteness of the community's it will visit. Expected daily vehicle weight including driver 1800kg, upto 2400kg with trailer. Yes the vehicle needs a GVM upgrade lol. What would your ideal engine choice be? I've heard 4g63's dont take kindly to big boost at lowish RPMs Thank you in advance, Matt
@bdalchemist
@bdalchemist 4 жыл бұрын
The strongest of all of them is the 4g63 , in the 2.0 dohc setup. If u want low end power then the 2.3 4g63 or 2.4 4g64 will be ur best option.

I have a quick question, I have a evo 9 with a 4g63 block 100mm crank 156mmrods and wiseco 86mm pistons that the pin is 6mm up, the car was built and ran perfect but issues with injectors lead to rebuild. I’ve order new pistons due to bad ones but went back with same specs..... is this motor still 2.3 and is this combo ok to keep? As it’s almost to late due to having new parts in thanks in advance
@bdalchemist
@bdalchemist 4 жыл бұрын
So without knowing the actual damage cause I cannot say for sure. Usually 86mm bore is the absolute limit of high boost application due to head gasket sealing issues. I do not know if ur cylinder walls need to be re honed, usually with new pistons it's always a good idea to do so. Also I think ur measurements are a little off , with 100mm crank u cannot use 156mm rods. You would use 150mm rods and pistons with wrist pints moved up 6mm or custom 153mm rods and wrist pins moved up 9mm (not recommended).
