Explore the beautiful, scenic Myles Standish state forest of historic Plymouth, Massachusetts. Often mistaken for the first settlement in the America's by the Europeans (3rd to Jamestown, Virginia and St. Augustine, Florida) it was the first settlement designed to be a permanent stay. The pilgrims from England famously landed here in 1620 aboard the Mayflower, led by the famous Myles Standish who was to be their military and defense leader in the new country. This state forest named for the leader lies just a few miles inland from the coast Plymouth.
One of the most historic villages in the United States, the colony was successful despite hardships and led to the future colonization of Massachusetts and New England. Explore the historic waterfront where the pilgrims first landed and settled. (after a short stay on Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod). See the famed Plymouth Rock, Mayflower II (an exact replica of the original ship) and the rest of the beautiful scenery of Plymouth's Waterfront.
