As the 986 boxster gets older, it improves like a fine wine, low weight, funky looks and the best Porsche rev counter dials and fonts in existence. I cant tell you enough how great this generation of boxster is from a first inspection, cant wait to drive one now.

Got my 02 S for $6500 Previous owner bought it 7 years ago as a theft recovery. Had some paint work here and there, but runs and drives great. Interior is immaculate,. 91k on it, and I don’t care about rock chips. 5th Boxster in 20 years

I think it says alot if you have kept coming back to the boxster, what boxsters have you owned. What a great time to buy a boxster, prices are at an all time low. You can now pick up a 987 sport edition for £6K.

I have a 2000 986 3.2 S. It's a gas to drive, never gets old. Mine has less than 75K miles. I'll end up passing this on to my kids someday.

Hi Mark, I have a very similar spec; 2001 986 S. All black, six speed manual. It’s so fun, every time. So few things in life are like that.

Just purchased a2004 base Boxster in Carmona red metallic over a full saddle leather interior. The car has a manual and is in pristine shape. I also have a 2009 Boxster S with a PDK in guards red. Prices seem to be strengthening here in Canada with nice examples of the 986 hovering around the mid to low twenty thousand range. Enjoyed the video.

The early 2.5 986 boxster was my introduction to Porsche as a 12 year old kid. It was my first love and sparked a life long passion for cars. At that time, I hadn't yet seen any different headlights on a Porsche, so to me, the "fried egg" lamps were absolutely perfect.

Lovely story and thanks for sharing. I was like you my first Porsche encounter was a 944 Turbo, probably about the same age as you were 12 ish. I loved the shape, yellow dials and the max speed. I,ve been a car person all my, life and always wanted to own my own Porsche one day. Now I have one I find excuses to go out for drives 😂. Thanks again for commenting.

@@thedrivebygg I can relate to staring in awe at the max speed on the dials. In those days, seeing the number "300kmh" on a speedo was something extra special, and I remember feeling goosebumps in the presence of cars that displayed it. Glad you are enjoying your Boxster so much. Ironically, its the one car I've never pulled the trigger on. The ones I tested didn't give me any confidence as far as previous ownership and service history were concerned, but I still think the day will come. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on perspective) the fried eggs, IMS horror stories and large production number will keep the values affordable for quite some time I believe.

Yeah I think the 986, 987 and 981 boxsters will hold their values, they’re so unique compared to modern cars. I intend to keep mine for a good number of years, and document the journey on KZfaq. I’m working on a boxster project for 2025, which im hoping the work I do now will pave the way for the next project 👍

16 months ago I bought a 2003 3.2S with 60k on the clock for £8,250 (with the optional hard-top). I've owned a SLK350 and driven the 3.0 Z4 (both of which were more expensive than my Boxster) and can honestly say the driving experience of the Boxster completely blows the others out the water. When people talk about the mid-mounted engine providing perfect balance, they're not wrong. My SLK lurched around bends and lost traction in anything but dry conditions. I never really trusted it. The Boxster is a truly thoroughbred Sportscar and sticks to the road. I love convertibles, and didn't think my budget would get me into a brand like Porsche, how wrong I was. Best 'bang-for-buck' you can spend if you want a pure driving experience. My only observation is that I don't think i would enjoy it nearly as much with less power, as even the 3.2 is far from blistering, so for me it has to be the 'S' model.

I have a 1998 2.5 with a Tiptronic transmission. It is now 26 years old and has done only 37k miles.

I still have my 1998 now with 225000 kms on. It has been my daily driver for a quarter century and I still enjoy this fantastic car. PS Mine has 19"Carrera mags (19/270/30 rear) PS Also had the BMW Z3. Best of the best but sold it recently (also in immaculate condition) at 400 000kms.
