I would buy one of these. I actually use External SSDs as extra storage that I use for my roms and emulators and videos that I download. Much much faster and portable compared to a Hard Drive. Happy we are getting higher capacities

another use case is to have your entire music and audio book library on it. Including the mobile version of your favorite music player. That way you have all your settings and files with you, on the go C: And Yes I do know streaming exists but it has WAY too many compromises.

I could use one of these as a backup option, for a NAS. Sure, it won't be able to backup everything, but it would be a good step-up from my current solution.

Whats it like when u fill half of it up, cause the x6 becomes slower than a 10year old hard drive.

Bought one of these the other day and first test it was limiting transfer speeds to 45MB/s as an exFAT format. I had to manually reformat to NTFS and go into device manager to change drives policy from quick remove to better performance before I saw speeds anywhere near advertised. Possibly user error I don’t know, all usb drivers seem up to date and correct.

I’m getting half the read and write speeds of the video. Around 450MB. I tried your steps of reformatting to NTFS and changing the drive policy, but it did not help. Any advice?

The Crucial X8 Portable SSD is a fast, light and fairly compact SSD that can shine at high speeds on current USB 3.2 Gen2 ports. This is especially true if the file sizes do not exceed the existing SLC cache. After the cache has been exhausted, the data transfer rate is reduced to 50 Mb/s. In the case of the 1TB version the SLC cache is 180 GB - the one in the 4TB version should be much bigger. This means that private users should rarely have this problem in everyday life. However, the SSD needs rest periods to write the data from the fast SLC cache to the slower memory. The controller is unable to do this when used continuously. If the speed is throttled, you can pause the transfer. After a short wait you can continue the transfer and the full speed should be available again. Please note: when the SSD is almost full, the SLC cache also reduces accordingly.

Im think of buying a small amd with rdna3 when they come around 500 bucks. But I want to use it as an old nintendo with cardridge kind of ssd. So one is for my work one for games one for testing new stuf, one for my girl. What kind of enclosures are there to make it like a nintendo or sega. Style?

What is the best ssd ? Crucial X8 4TB Portable SSD or the SanDisk 4TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD , a ssd with out any heat & broken issues for the future .

My SSD is 70% full and the maxim speed to write is 55Mb/s. I do not recommend.

This would be amazing on my ps4 slim. the HDD is so damn slow on that console. I just wonder if using USB 3.0 would hinder it in any way whatsoever.

If it's the 5Gbps bandwidth, you'd be capped at 625MB/s, but that's still orders of magnitude faster than a mechanical hard drive.

I have the 2 TB version of the X8 connected to my PS5 for storing and playing all my PS4 games off of as it frees up the 4 TB NVMe SSD in the console for my PS5 games. I’m thinking I may try to snag the 4 TB X8 at some point, though I suppose I could wait till they release an 8 TB version XD!

Who uses these? Music creators and video editors. I quickly fill a 4TB with sample collections and installing products like NI Komplete Ultimate.

I bet the 4TB would not be connectible to a TV though. Dont TVs have a limit to the hard drive size they can read? Would be a good test to see if things like TVs, game consoles, and settop boxes can read it.

TV's are limited not by capacity but by power draw. Most TV's power draw is 500 mili amps. This is about 1000 mili amps.

It's QLC. It's therefore overpriced crap. I put a 4TB Team TLC SSD in a rog nvme enclosure for over $150 AUD less, literally 2 days ago... and the Team group has 2400 TBW durability. Do that. A lot of people don't realise how easy it is to buy an nvme and pop it in a usb enclosure. (620 AUD vs 780).
