If you look where the 3 top hat bolts are you will see 2 plugs that are body color. If you remove those you can get to the 2 13mm nuts that hold the strut mount to the top hat. Then remove sway bar link and the lower bolt of the strut. Then remove strut assembly without even touching your pinch bolt of anything

Also make sure if you are removing the front top hat off STOCK suspension / Springs and Struts - USE A SPRING Compressor!!

ty man, I was always wondering about the rears. It's not so bad. Once you get past the pinch bolts, everything is pretty straightforward.

This video gave me much more information than just a coilover install I have a fwd a4 and I really would like to convert to quattro from the looks of it it may be easier than the internet is telling thanks for another awsome video

I've got solo works on my b5s4 as well and couldn't be happier and not to mention that I had made a wrong turn while leaving a meet with the rest of the pack and while on the freeway hit a curb about 80ish and got some air. Of course the first thing I thought of was the oil/trans pan and then the coilovers hoping I didn't blow any out but the entire suspension components were good so that was one less thing that I had repair from that wrong turn freeway outing

You aren't wrong, that pinch bolt is a swine!! The head snapped on mine, had to take the whole lot off to get it out.(looking forward to doing the other side! :-/) haha.

Also I was able to install the front coilovers on my b5 a4 without removing the control arm bolts/tri-y mount at the top, just gotta take off those little painted plastic covers holding the strut nuts to the body mount
