In this video I will do my best to show you all how and why I use the Chevrolet Chevy S10, GMC S15, S10 Blazer, or GMC Jimmy for all my chassis swaps. The main reason I choose these is because the tire width (track width) is almost identical for all makes and models of classic cars & trucks from the 1930's all the way to the late 1950's when cars and trucks started to get big and wide.
The 1st gen chevy s10's are not all the same though, as they come in 2 varieties, the two-wheel drive and the four-wheel drive and as I show here, they are completely different. But as you can see in this video the 2wd S10 chassis was a bad choice for my 1950 Ford Wyoming State Cop Car, better known as the Shoebox Ford, because the width of the tires on the 2 wheel drive S10 chassis is just too narrow for that particular car but is the perfect width for the 1950 F series Pickup because they are much narrower than the cars.
But all in all this makes a nice quick and easy way get a Budget Build hot rod off the ground and ready for the #NoNameNationals or any Budget friendly project because of its vast versatility depending on the car or truck you are setting on top of these little frames.

I disagree a little bit, I agree that they are really really good for frame swaps they aren't best, The best is the Mid 70's-mid 80's Full size/Wagon frames, they are also the same width as the Post War-Space Age cars but the wheel base is so close you don't have to modify much of the frame or the bodies much if at all, generally all you have to do is chop off an inch or 2 off the front, Plus they already sit lower than an S-10 so you don't have to spend the money to lower them, plus most of them came with a Bigger V6 or Small block V8 so you don;t have to engine swap them either because the stock powertrain has plenty of power already compared to the 4 Cylinder or Small V6 engine that comes with the S-10 so your saving money on that also. One of the guys in my car club took a 54 Chevy Fleetwood body and put it on a 81 Lesabre Frame and had to do VERY Little mods to either to put them together, he had to cut an inch and half off the front of frame and he to heighten the front of the rear wheel structor of the body 3/4 of an inch, he litterally did the entire build minus the paint and body over a l4 day weekend and drove it to work on Tuesday and spent less than a $500 including the paint and body because he put everything on Facebook Marketplace and recouped most of the money back.

I wonder if the lower A arm is longer on the 4x4. You may be able to use longer A arms on a 2x4. It's an easy fix for the rear. Put a zr2 rear end under in. They are about 3" wider than a standard 4x4 s10 rear end and you get an upgrade from the 7.5 to and 8.5" rear end with disk brakes.

Thank u for these videos. I got a 55 dodge dulley dose it still fit the 4x4 s10 frame? Or would u recomend something eles?

You bet McDaniel & thanks for watching man! That white '57 Dodge truck in the other video on this is actually a ton & a half dually as well! The cab & fenders are nearly identical to the '55 (and I'm actually going to use a '55 nose/grill & hood on that one) and it's nearly identical to the 4wd track width of the 1st gen S10's. So I'd highly recommend the 4wd with that one. Not only for that, but it does give you a lot more options to change things a bit without hurting things. Hope that helps and I look forward to hearing you got it on the road man!

Just watch one of your videos from 9 months ago where you rest your fuel lines with rubber hose I am having the same problem I did that today and also remove the thermostat I'll be testing out tomorrow's I just wondering what your outcome was😊

On that '68 Mercury? It actually did really good in the Summer Heat here, I was really surprised! If that didn't work, than I was going to buy one of those fuel filters with the 3rd nipple on them and run a return line off it back to the tank, or put an electric pump in it and do away with the mechanical one, because that's actually where the fuel boils is inside the mechanical fuel pump. Hope that helps.

I have a 1961chevy c30 suburban/custom cabworks school bus, what would be the best chassis to swap to if I want something heavy duty and 4x4?
@BareRoseGarage
@BareRoseGarage 25 күн бұрын
Way cool man, I think that is the short bus right? If so I'd look for a "square body" Chevy Suburban (73-89). The good news is you don't give a crap about the body so you can still find those on the cheep. Hope that helps my friend.
