Graham, you know how to put on a true Australian show

I don't think many people understand how much effort goes in to creating solo episodes, let alone footage and commentary as capturing as this. Graham you bugger, I love this show!

I gave a small sigh of relief when you pulled up and switched off the motor. I know what you mean Graham. Even though I was just returning to Sydney, from Cape York, via Birdsville. Drove straight past my home in the inner east of Sydney and went to South Maroubra, where I grew up, and parked up. Then walked out to the end of the southern headland of the bay, Sat there for quite some time, a smile on my face, just watching the sky and sea. That's my favorite place on the planet to contemplate my belly button.. You have an amazing backyard over there... Next May, I'm heading over to W.A and spend a few months off road, seeing the sights and, um, not catching a fish at that bridge.

These don't come often enough. I understand that a LOT of work goes into them, but I could watch these every day. Love your manner Graham - relatable, enjoyable, informative.....

Bloody graham, Aussie icon, true bush bloke who has a legitimate passion for what he does, i absolutely love watching his work. It feels genuine and he is such a talent when it comes to being in front of the camera showcasing Australia and the 4wd lifestyle. For me personally, he is a huge inspiration because he doesnt care, he just wants to be in the bush, a simple wholesome life that i relate to. Love your work mate 👍

Thanks Graham for sharing your special part of WA with us. In regard to toilet paper disposal, after burying the waste , we put the toilet paper into a paper bag which can then be burnt in the campfire. Moved to Australia back in 2012. Before then I grew up in America, moved around a lot as a child, joined the military, deployed and was stationed/posted at a few different places around the world and the US. Never had a long term place to be. I finally found it, that feeling of home, when I met my wife and started a life here in Australia. Then I lost it when she died of cancer just after her 40th birthday almost 2 years ago. Now I just feel 'homesick' all the time because she was my home, my place to be. Thank you for sharing your travels, the videos are always great.

Love what you said about 'sense of place'. In NZ, Maori language explains it as Tūrangawaewae. It is often translated as 'a place to stand'. Tūrangawaewae are places where we feel especially empowered, safe and connected. They are our foundation, our place in the world, our home. There is no 'ownership' of land associated to this idea. It is just where you 'feel right'. To my husband and I, that is Elliot Bay in Northland NZ, and Pokaka in Central NZ. Awesome video. Keep doing what you do!

I’m English, moved out here 14 years ago. Traveled a lot of Australia and love it all. But always feel very connected and calm when I’m in the south west of WA. Sense of place mate.

I don't think there are words to describe how excited I am when I see there's a new AuSolo episode. Hands down one of my favourite series between this channel and EcoMuse.

I know exactly what you mean about the sense of connection with a particular place. I live in the High Desert of California. Just recently a wild fire started in the Mojave preserve and has been devastating to one of my favorite places, the New York Mountains, and in particular, Caruthers Canyon. My wife and I just camped there in May. It's heartbreaking thinking of what we have lost. Maybe in September, we will be able to get back into Caruthers Canyon. Unfortunately, it will probably bring me to tears. You are a very fortunate man, Graham. Keep smiling and enjoying the beauty of nature.

With you on the SW Graham, was hatched near the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere but unfortunately left 10 yrs later. Kept returning until recently when I moved overseas on retirement. Used to grade the logging roads out near the blackwood River for some years, then moved to Kalamunda working in earthmoving and blasting from 1969 to 1975, then moving all over Straya working at anything till retirement. Still would love to be back in the wonderful South West!!!

You may have done this trip solo, but you took me alone with you and today I needed it. Didn't know that I did, I just had you on to keep me company while I pack up my life and start something new... you were talking about a sense of place, belonging to somewhere, and that kinda made me stop what I was doing and be there with you in that thought and that feeling. I've been incredibly lost in a space I know but don't connect with. I've let other things takeover my need to feel, properly feel. Thank you for making me stop, listen and be for a minute, making me think of where I belong and how I get myself back there... I've adored watching you for the funnies, but this was different and felt very personal. Thanks again Graham ❤

Migrated to Oz nearly 40 years ago when I was a teen ager. I truly understand what you mean when you "know your sense of place" It's the red soil outback that gets into your blood or just the high country tracks or just the air we breath out there. There's nothing like it any where else in the world. The trips you are doing keeps me looking to go out to see more. Well done on AuSolo and Off Grid.

Originally from Germany, live since 7 years in New Zealand but traveling through Australia 2008/09 just hit something in me that I will never forget and I always dreamed off returning too. My favorite region would definitely be SW Australia. The perfect mix for me. Thanks Graham for showing the beauty of that stunning country you call home. Absolutely enjoy watching every episode. Graham, Ive just returned to Kings Canyon for the third time, I've been a ranger here in the NT for over 20 years and have tried to retire twice but here I am....sense of place? The Red Centre will always have my heart.

I always have a sense of being home every time I fly back to Australia after working overseas. I guess you just dont realise what we have here until you come home and smell that air as soon as you walk out of the terminal. Sitting on a deserted Perth beach early in the morning is something so special to me. We do indeed live in a beautiful spiritual place.

I’m so glad this series is back. It has been one of my favorites. The plane that always calls me back is the Rocky Mountains though New Mexico/Colorado and the Big Bend region of West Texas

Superb as always. Nothng quite as good as showcasing W.A. and our fantastic attractions. My sense of place isn't in the south west though, it is up in the Pilbara. I have spent more time camping there than anywhere else and it is my spiritland. Fun fact, the Muja power station in Collie was named after the Aussie Christmas tree :)

I have a spinal injury so realistically can't do trips that take several days and negotiate Bush camps anymore. I had a very active outdoors life before my injury and miss this kind of trip so I really enjoy your videos it let's me experience things that I can't do in person any more. Glad to see your GU back out there. The place here in New Zealand that resonates with me the most is the South Island, in particular Southland. Spent a lot of my childhood down there in a little town called Mossburn that I long to return too now that I'm old enough to appreciate it!

The Pilbara is home for me, my heart longs for red dirt, hot easterly winds and the flies when I’m not here.

Absolutely love the way graham presents any of his shows and it is his sense of humour that catches me and he kind of reminds me a little bit of an old presenter and bush advocate Mr "Roothy

we drove from Darwin down the Stuart Highway, along the Nullabor up to Port Headland into Tom Price. Bacl to Perth in 2002. Best 6 weeks with the family. beautiful Country. From Cornwall now living in France since 2005.

Love all the 4WD24/7 content as I have lived in NSW and QLD but this WA content. It just hits right in the feels. It’s home.

It's weird, the same exact thing happened with POWs here in the USA. I'm in the 2nd largest apple producing state in the country. I heard stories from my grandma about the local orchards employing German POWs as fruit pickers, and after the war, several of them came back to the States because they loved the area so much.

I feel at peace when on the mighty Murray River. Just me my partner and our 2 boys. Anyway, just along the River. I sit there in the mornings with my boys and we just watch and listen. Love the show mate. We will be planning a big trip soon as unfortunately I have to sell my business for health reasons. So we want to travel with our boys before I can't keep doing this stuff.

Yeah connection to country. I spend a lot of time around Maitland & Morpeth in NSW & have done for many years. They just feel like the right places for me to be. I was aware of a family connection to the district both those towns are in through research my old dad had done. When dad passed away last year I started going through his notes & I found out that my great great great grandparents farmed in the Maitland district back in the 1850s - 1860s. In fact it's quite likely their first child - who passed away as a small boy - is buried close by around the Bolwarra area. I had no idea about this until I started going through dad's work. So now that I know this part of my family history does it explain why I feel so at home in those places? Well make of all that what you will, but to my mind it's yep. Absolutely. Cheers mate.

I am a fan from Canada. Bells went off when you mentioned "A sense of Place". This June and July to explored the backroads from Buffalo Point in SE Manitoba to Waterton National Park in SW Alberta. About 2000 Kms. from end to end. I was following and exploring the "Medicine Line" as the 49th Parallel is called out here. I was tracing the route taken by the International boundary Commission in 1873-74 and the North West Mounted Police in 1874. As I said, I was exploring. But I grew up in Southern Alberta and live for almost thirty years just outside Waterton National Park. There came a point when the exploring stopped. I knew these backroads and where each one of them came from and where they went. After all, these were MY roads. I was HOME. Although I no longer live there, my wife retired me to the far side of the country, I knew that 'sense of place' just as you describe Graham. The down side was that while the place was the same, life there had carried on just fine without me. I felt like a ghost driving up and down my old haunts. The only thing missing was me.

If you read this, you're a big inspiration Graham you and the lads constantly make my days better, my entire family and I grew up in mundaring!

Sense of place, love that concept, Graham you are a legend. Though I explored WA for 8 years, sense of place brought me back to the Sunshine Coast and the islands of Qld. Just the best ever and so nearby.

Graham, you have no idea how much I've missed these videos. Au Solo is the best thing anyone in Oz-land has come out with in YEARS. You really need to make, or take, more time away from the business side of things and spend more time doing things like this. I'm blessed to live in the American Pacific Northwest with some of the best back country travel in the world, but WA still blows me away every time I follow you out there. Cheers mate!

Couldn’t agree more on “sense of place”. I know the indigenous say it all the time, but it doesn’t just belong to them. My “sense of place “ is the north west slopes and plains of NSW. I grew up there, and whenever I return, a sense of peace and calm comes over me.

I have my sense of place when I get up north, I love the red dirt and the aqua oceans. Nothing quite compares for me and it keeps drawing me back. Our south west is magic too but its not quite the same, so I understand the feeling you are talking about when you say sense of place.

Totally agree with you Graham, I feel a sense of home in the SA desert. Friends don’t understand why I don’t like the coast, I do. But the desert is home, especially when I am at my favourite Big Morro Gorge. A secret spot not many would know as it was removed from most maps.

YES ! Sense of place absolutely. My husband and I lived on the Darling downs in the brigalow country. We moved to Rockhampton 30 years ago. As soon as we hit the brigalow country heading down to Chinchilla we get a ‘feeling’ . It’s home. A sense of place indeed

Addressing the 'Sense Of Place' around 11 minutes, Though I was born in Kalgoorlie, and spent my toddler and school years in Bunbury, Australind and Eaton, it's most importantly when I left home before finishing school, to work the vineyards around Cowaramup, GraceTown, and Metricup, that defines me and my connection to all the different Biomes in the Southwest. When you mentioned the term " Sense of Place " that I got a little misty, as I have felt ( for as long as I've held a drivers license ) this immense calming of my mind the more south I go past Busso and Vasse. past the Metricup Church. this welcoming feeling of coming home.... The South West owns me body and soul, and as much as I delight in travelling, experiencing new cultures and locations, meeting new incredible people, I will always gravitate back down south, away from the uproar and noise and crime and light pollution and everyday waste and ignorance, to the forest, the bush, the cliffs, the beaches, the estuaries, the rivers and dams and lakes. It's simple, it asks nothing of you other than to love it, experience it, treasure and respect it ( litter and rubbish wise ). Apologies for the long post, but that one term " Sense of Place" had a powerful and profound meaning and effect on me, especially with this region. Thankyou for the content, I enjoyed it all. I was raised in Kalamunda and lived on Mundaring Rd, Mundaring power line track was Dads fav place for firewood. Don't know how many times we travelled that track in his mini minor van

I really can't believe the quality of your filming and editing etc, fantastic solo effort Graham, I love this touring style as much as the regular 4wd 24/7 ones, although I'm really particularly fond of Sooty as I have an 80 series touring rig myself, you're right about the fact there's something special about driving around in an older vehicle, nostalgia and a very analogue experience, keep up the great work, my hat's off to ya mate 👍

I think this channel has really hit its stride. It shows the beauty of y'alls country, but from different emphasis. The young guys beating their rigs on the hardest tracks they can find, the tough tracks with friends which is the majority of the content which your advertisers participate in and Grahams epic adventures ( both with and without campers) showing the need of 4wd, but not beating on them. I hope Shaun comes with Graham on a few of this epic tours and catches a few fish. Love what y'all are doing!
