If you're a beginner this is one of the first things you'll want to know before venturing off road as there are plenty of situations not suited to highway pressures. The right tyre pressure not only gives you better traction by increasing your tyre footprint but reduces your chance of a puncture and also makes for a smoother ride through better vibration absorption. And to answer the other part of the question i.e. what's the best tyre pressure...well there's no perfect answer for that. It's a combination of a number of factors including the terrain you are driving on, your vehicle (weight, tyre size etc) and the speed you are travelling and that's just for starters.
