We lived in the Territory for a few years so visited Kakadu many times in both the wet and the dry. Completely different landscape and experience at different times of year! This clip is pretty old now but was around mid year as the track into Jim Jim was open.

May 2021...17 years cicadas emerging, shedding their shells. The trees are covered with shells and many cicadas on the sidewalks, flying around, making a loud humming noise. Some areas are louder than others. It's an amazing phenomenon. They don't do damage, just mate and lay their eggs in the soil until the next 17 years. They are big and a little scary looking (actually, I think they're quite beautiful), but you can handle them and they won't harm you. This is happening in many states and in the northeast. It lasts for a few weeks. Very cool.

@@OffTheTrax yeah still lots of bikes and quads there, I ride there twice a month and camp on the beach and have a few cold one's with the boys, never been hassled by the police and in the 30 years I've lived in Darwin I've only seen the police at Gunn point 2 times, and both times they've been looking for a stolen car.

Is this a beginners track. Just started to get the bug and want to try it out. Should I go in a group or solo ok. ( I don't have a group)
@OffTheTrax5 жыл бұрын
David Curran in dry conditions the tracks are well suited to a beginner. A Break can be quite steep but nothing overly difficult. Can be a completely different story in the wet though. Prob worth going with at least another vehicle as we usually recommend that for any 4WDing and definitely take a mapping system as it can be a bit like a rabbit warren!

How did you guys go towing the Jaycos up the Bloomfield?
@OffTheTrax5 жыл бұрын
Off The Meyn Road it was slow going in some places as there are some steep inclines/declines. Had to go to low low for a couple. That was with our Prado. We now have a 76 series landcruiser and it would be much more capable. Whatever you’re driving just drive to the conditions and take it easy as it is windy and hilly.
