I am a 74 year old man that did what you did twice, first in a 1964 Honda 50 that they now call a 'Cub'. It was 50cc and on a good day would go 35 MPH. I rode it from Lockport N.Y. to Nick Stoner Lake in the Adirondack Mts. taking back roads the whole way. Your video made me relive those great days. I have never been that far West and enjoyed seeing the scenery. Thanks for the super video. My wife recently passed away and I have returned to motorcycling here in Florida. I might just take a road trip.

Well done! I've been Coast-to-Coast on bikes a few times, (CERTAINLY not on Groms.. you DO have a Pair!)... and I can fully appreciate all the challenges you mentioned. As I'm an older rider, I laughed when you mentioned losing your Waze and online mapping; the first time I ever rode across (1981) there were no ATM's, laptops, or digital phones; you had to use paper maps (I still do!), and carry a pocket full of quarters to use in phone booths. Congratulations! Next time, you might want to bump-up to a Honda 750 or something.

29:48 I’m surprised you didn’t add a tire gel sealant that coats the inside of your tire so if you have a leak it will still keep pressure considering you were going on such a long journey. 😅 the gel sealant is cheap tire insurance, however if your tires are doing that …. They have to be old or a bad rubber compound for highway use. 😅

I left from Kansas City, Missouri -> TX -> NM -> AZ -> San Diego -> San Francisco -> NV -> UT -> CO -> KS -> Back home to KC. It was an epic almost 5000 mile trip (I think it was roughly 4900). I know this video is a year old, but wow what a journey!! I live in Cali (San Diego, too!) and not sure if anyone explained this, but the signs say no bicycles or motor-driven cycles (like e-bikes). Motorcycles are allowed on the freeway, but they must be 150cc or more. Sooo technically the grom shouldn't have been on the 8, but what a fun journey anyway!! Please let me share. In 1992 when I graduated high school I had just bought a 1987 KLR 650. I rode that from Tucson, Az back to Maryland. Many M/C trips later, in September/October 2019 I I rode my Honda Silverwing (Scooter) from Tucson back to Maryland using only back roads. 3000 miles, about 300 a day. I used google maps and just put it on bicycle route. I took 10 days as I was in no hurry. Not riding interstate is the best ever. 5 Years ago I did an actual bicycle trip from Oregon back to Maryland. I used to drive long haul 18 wheelers so travel is in my blood. Now I'm a travel nurse. Maryland is where I grew up which is why I always end up there on a trip. And, that road in Nm that you're standing on with no traffic, I have a pic of my current bike parked in the middle of that road. LOL Edit. Where you stop at the Honda place is where I just bought my last bike. Honda 300 Rally. Edit # 2. You stopped in 3 points. LOL. you weren't very far from me and my riding grounds. Edit # 3 Awesome man. Just finished watching. Its really good to hear how grateful you are to do this trip. BTW, motorcycles are allowed, it's " motor-driven cycles" that aren't allowed. Essentially a bicycle with a motor. No Bueno.

I did my first big trip on a bike this fall. 2,000 miles solo from Chicago, to Badlands National Park, to Rushmore, Black hills, back to Badlands, then back to Chicago. I had a lot of the same problems going far. Lesser gas than I thought, longer than I thought, Places where gas was far away. Ass hurty. I didn't google what badlands even looked like. Just heard it was pretty, planned what I needed to bring, and put it in google. Straight up no planning really. Decided on a Saturday, left on Monday. Cannot wait to go back though.

I have a 50CC Air cooled Derby Atlantis scooter with good mods a Leo Vince pipe bigger carb and jets it's been lightened lighter varriator weights and a modified stock air box. On flats with not much wind I do 93-95 kph and I'm a pretty big guy. I would much rather ride it then either of my big bike's. I'd imagine that ride on the Grom would have been absolutely beautiful and awesome. Cheers

One question that has never occurred to me before - do Corbin make touring seats for Grom's? Cycling pants do help significantly with hard seats. You'd likely get better gas mileage with road tires. Those engines are very under stressed and will run flat out forever provided the oil is changed frequently.

That was a great vid. One of my favorites in a long time. I can't wait until my Grom actually arrives and do some back country trips. I have always had big bikes and took the direct routes. Should be fun to take the slow routes. Great quality vid

Riding through a sandstorm is a bad idea because the sand and fine dust is getting pulled into your air filter and will clog it, some of it might also get past the air filter and get sucked directly into your cylinders. Great video though.

I am quite a bit older than you and I have been riding motorcycles most of my life. I was just at a big Buc ees for the first time. Very cool. Some where between Austin and San Antonio. I had a blast riding around San Antonio for a few hours about 4 or 5 days ago. I am from Oregon and this is the second year in row that I have traveled from Oregon to Ohio and than south to Texas and west to Arizona I am in Tombstone Arizona right now. If I am able to do it again next year maybe we could meet up and go for a ride. Keep up the good work maybe you'll be famous someday.
