Thanks Joe for seeing my comment! With PF 2E being so reliant on action economy, the extra 10ft does matter. Dimensional Assault is two actions for the price of one action. I see why the developers made it half movement speed because with Arcane Cascade stance, Ancestry and General Feats; an Elven Magus can get 50ft of movement speed by level 3. Being able to teleport 50ft and make a free melee attack would be pretty busted.

Please, Joe, for Paula's sake, have Jared re-read the counteract rules for Blood of the Wild! Paula's Dispel Magic should have worked multiple times. You cut the hazard level in half when determining its level for counteracting: "If an effect is a spell, its level is the counteract level. Otherwise, halve its level and round up to determine its counteract level. If an effect’s level is unclear and it came from a creature, halve and round up the creature’s level."

I understand why playing thesaurus soup for names in the remaster feels silly, but at the same time putting more distance between D&D and what is a clearly different (and better) game is something that excites me personally.
@JacksonOwex

As Joe said though, the Remaster is actually a LOT more than just "thesaurus soup". There's quite a few changes to rules that had NOTHING to do with D&D that were, and are being, changed.

@@mattwilkes2321 it's a great spell... I ran a campaign where there was a Goliath Rune Knight who had a stupidly high AC. I went the whole campaign without being able to hurt him much. At the end of the campaign, the party were fighting a literal god (trying to finish a ritual to tramp it) and that god was summoning in vampire spawn every round... some of those were sorcerers, and their only spell was Magic Missle. And then i realized how wonderful it is: No attack roll, no saving throw, just take the damage. I actually took the fighter down and it came to the most epic ending possible for the campaign. But I'm happy calling it "Force Barrage" from now on! =)

I'm currently running a PF2 game and will not be switching to Remaster anytime soon. Part of that is 4 out of 5 characters use classes that will be in the Player Core 2 (5th character is a Kineticist from Rage of Elements, so is already Remaster ready), so I need that book to be released before we can update. But part of it (and really the main reason) I don't want the hassle of the switch over. That period of learning the new version, updating my memory and the players to new ways to do things, the hassle of doing something then remembering it's changed and then needing to address whether we redo or just let it slide etc etc. Completely agree with the need to change and put some distance between PF and D&D, but living through this change isn't going to be easy. Like Troy, I like things neat.

I moved out of the d20 system entirely after 4E and haven't looked back. I think Troy has mentioned how much he enjoys the skill based game like CoC. Advancement is slow, but the immersion is on another level. Because you stay TOTM instead of tile and maps it flows a lot better. Combat in pf really feels like a separate game is taking place.

The Remaster served two purposes, fixing issues and cleaning up terminology to distance from the OGL. The Remaster and legacy resources are fully compatible, so my perspective is that the changes to the rules that fix issues are now "law," but things that were only changed for verbiage purposes are not. If a Magus wants to use Shocking Grasp, I'm fine with that because there is no Remastered Magus yet. Once they update the Magus, it will undoubtedly fix those issues and we can move away from the legacy material... but until the Magus is updated, then the "legacy" Magus in my game needs access to the legacy spells.

Really loved the question and answer from Jeremy 1 from "I Don't Know Where" about which edition to use, especially since it sounded like a lot of the issue was about the language choices in the new edition, not the mechanics. I feel like this is a CLASSIC new player question. Joe and Troy: great answer directing towards staying up to date and a lot of the realities of trying to stick with an older system! One thing I would add is that if the issue is really just about the names of spells and things of that nature, pretty much all systems that I have played actually encourage players to "reskin" spells and abilities. Basically the idea is that you change the flavor text of the spell, but keep the same mechanics. This is usually a small, and (IMO) often overlooked part of player handbooks and something I see very few players actually opt into. BUT it's one of my personal favorite ways to bring a personal touch to the table and world as a PC. For example if I was going to create a Spirit Wizard (perhaps a kin of Four Bears or some sort of necromancer) I might take Force Barrage/Magic Missile but call it something like Ghostly Protectors, and describe it as a group of ancestral spirits briefly manifesting to strike the target a number of times. The spell would still do 1d4+1 force damage per strike and automatically hit, but since this already exists as a spell a wizard can take it doesn't imbalance the game. I think that sounds cooler especially within the context of this character. You will probably want to always be in communication with your GM about that sort of thing, and keep the original spell handy to reference so that when you use it you can help everyone else know what is happening. The GM's I have played with have been pretty excited about a player who is invested in their character and putting that kind of work in, and I haven't ever had issues doing this sort of thing personally, BUT as this IS a game with other people, ymmv. TLDR: Most systems that I have used actually encourage you to call spells by other names to suit your character, which really could just be a cooler name. Pick a system based on mechanics and ease of use and finding a group, and use the language that is going to help your group have the most fun. PS: Was at the KC Show, and you guys were UNHINGED. Me and my buddies had a great time!

Dungeon Craw Classics seems to really embrace outside writers. Any time I see them at a Con, AT LEAST a 3rd of their booth is "zeens" or adventures written by frelancers that they are helping sell/ promote. Not sure who to talk to about it, but they have a discord I'm sure that person could ask on.

The remaster is just a giant errata, it's still mostly compatible with legacy. 1. If the rule has been updated in the remaster, you use the new rule. Like the rules on recall knowledge and refocus was updated. 2. Use the remastered classes. So PC1 has bard, cleric, druid, fighter, ranger, rogue, witch, and wizard. So if you wanted to play a champion, you'd use the legacy rules for now until PC2 comes out. 3. If the remastered spell has the same name as the legacy spell. Use the remaster version. For example, Light and Divine Lance. 4. Alignment and wizard's legacy spell schools is gone.

First off, Joe is 100% right: Razzmatazz was the best-ever NPC. As for Troy not being able to socialize before/after shows, it sounds a bit like he's approaching burnout. Perhaps he should do himself a favor and set his OCD/control freak nature aside, delegate some responsibilities as any good executive would, and then do the fans a favor by being a player more often than just being a GM. Some of my favorite Troy moments have been when he's a PC but we don't get that much anymore.

He is also the current editor of weird tales magazine which was first published in 1923 it where Lovecraft got his start. Jonathan Maberry is the nicest guy in the lit world. He also edits for marvel. He does weekly amas and also does writing and world building classes which he's ridiculous at. He does classes on how to get started in the industry. But he has a soft spot for new authors and helps out many. He edits many franchise anthologies like the X files and Alien and Predator, but also ones like Limbus Inc, he also has short story anthologies bfor Joe Ledger where other authors write short Joe Ledger stories. I also highly recommend his Joe Ledger series, Kagen The Damned series (very Lovecraftian) but I also recommend reaching out to him.

What Joe said about the hedgehog kinda bugs me. He admitted that it's meta gaming, but ultimately if he suspects a character is shady all he should be doing is rolling a sense motive. If his character can't glean anything from that then just move forward. Fighting it can only hurt the narrative whereas rolling with it would be entertaining. In the ep I found myself annoyed with the players because aside from Troy's annoying voice, there's no reason for them to hate the hedgehog so much. The characters should be just taking his presence as a boon because it'll help them navigate a plane they're not familiar with.
