Great job coach! Way to bring us home! This will be my first year and a dream come true as a defensive coordinator in High school. I’ve worked my tail off for this moment! Thanks for having guys like myselves backs!

I've been involved in the 5-2 for the first 13 years of my coaching career. We've always had success using it any won many region championships and a state championship. We always brought the SS down as a third underneath pressure. Our Weak End had to be one of the most athletic kids on the field because he was the kid that we used for adjustments to spread sets if we needed to get to an even front. If a team couldn't block or pass well, we would just keep the 5-2 look and go Cover 0 and bring an extra guy. Due to personnel, we are going to more of a 4-2 look but I will be looking for ways to get back to the 5-2 at times on the snap of the ball.

Lots of good defenses still playing it

I use this as cover 1 with the FS playing center field. the SS has the TE and comes off it on a run read, The M & W follow the backs whether pass or run often blitz the A gap. Press coverage on the outside. disrupt the route, the 5 man rush will not give the QB much time to adjust.

I've been wanting to use the 3-4 and the 5-2 defense and this video makes it clear as day on how to. Thank you coach.

Heckuva job, Coach. Been using your videos for years now.

In the 5-2 we always had the SS on the opposite side of the tight end. The DE on the TE side had flat coverage and outside containment. The weak side the DE crashed and the SS had outside containment and flat coverage.

The 5 dline should always rush and have both ends responsible for RB screens or peels, Same with T.E D.End should always jam T.E on line. When you rush 5 vs run plays you can match hat on hat creating a wall when all 5 stalemate, Vs Pass you force QB to pass quick, As long as DB's are jamming then time to throw should be cut in half.

Coach Mac, as always, great video. Keep it simple. Play box or spill. If your good enough to play both. DANG! Appreciate your input as always.

I think the 5-2 is the way to go. Love the idea of dropping the SS off the TE and using him on different blitz packages.

It can certainly be effective

60 monster was another Defense popular in the Miami/ Dade county school system ....still is . Hard to pass deep with 5-6 rushers every down . The lone linebacker "Mike" has to be the Boss and fast to run down the pitch sweep 1 on 1.

Coach great video. Really helped me as this is the type of defense we run (5/3). I have a suggestion for a vid, how about two point / goal line plays out of the spread offense. Keep up the great work.

Coach do you have anything else you can share on the 5-2? Just had concerns about pulling Guards, key screens, and a few other things . Thanks coach.

I want to design a high pressure dime defense, with a 3-2 bear front, as a base defense. Any thoughts on how to do that?
@anthonylasure52867 жыл бұрын
Enjoy all the videos. thanks coach. I have a request/ question. Do you have any info on the defense I saw Texas and a few other teams run this past year? it was 3-3 personnel. D line is in even front 4-0-4 and then the Sam backer is on the line of scrimmage outside the tackle to the strong side. The Mike and Will were in 30 technique similar to 4-2-5 and the defensive backs were in a standard quarters type alignment like with the 4-2-5. If you haven't seen it I understand. I pay too close attention to the games I watch
@CoachMac7 жыл бұрын
We play 3-3 stack with split field coverages quarters based

Anthony LaSure I actually think I know what you're talking about. In my junior year of high school we played against something similar in our week 2 game except instead of an outside backer there, there was an "overhanging" defensive end on the strong side. Now if you're wondering what it does schematically…I'm sure it's similar to a 4-2 but with some 3 down line with a 4th rusher concepts. Obviously, there's a lot you can do twisting and stunting the strong side end and the "overhang" guy or the strong side backer on passing downs.

Rob Dawg if you check the link there you will see it. With with no tight end it's a totally even front, but it looks like with a tight end they put a B gap player to thw strong side
@anthonylasure52867 жыл бұрын
Rob Dawg when I was in high school, about 15 years ago, we played fronts with 5 lineman with some 2 gaping and others single gap in rhe same defense. We usually had a linebacker I'm a 9 tech that would always jam the tight end to keep him from getting to next level to block. We we played a lot of speed option teams back then. would 2 gap on backside with DT to play off the counter and weakside iso.
@formerlyknownaseasrob7 жыл бұрын
Anthony LaSure oh I get what you mean. They were 3-3 stack against the spread but dropped down the Sam LB against a TE. That actually sounds a lot like what my coach for senior year did. Now, since my school is a small private school in a district with 6 private school teams out of 8 we ran into some TEs but other than the wing T teams we faced, we didn't face a ton of situations involving TEs, especially not in the passing game. It wasn't much different out of district either, really.
@johngibson28845 жыл бұрын
We ran this as a 50 Key ....shifting "Sam" and "Will" to gap shifts . Our best years where when we had our best athlete in 2 positions on the 50 ....the nose tackle will make or break the middle . A great nose tackle is a premium The SS is the field marshall .... A Boss at SS calls the defense and acts more like a LB/ pass coverage short zone pressure . Dropping off the ends on white coverage with a SS blitz can cause havoc . We used to put our best athletes on big D back in the 90's ....before the Boosters demanded more points on the scoreboard and now all the fastest, biggest guys are relegated to O.... 50 rules the D in my book ...thanks for the info.

wou;d love to know more about the 32 bandit defense and how it can be used effectively against spread and rpo offensive schemes?

@bobbyraejohnson5 жыл бұрын
5-2 defense is pretty much a 3-4 defense

Coach - I've enjoyed your videos, you do a very fine job of presenting your information. You seemed to be asking for topics here a couple of times. How about how you do your game planning? Pick a side, offense/defense, and go through your steps and processes for developing your game plan. What products you give to whom, which coach is doing what, that kind of thing. Might be a topic for the Jan-March time frame.

Hey Coach Mac wondering if you've ever ran into a team playing a 5-1-5 defense. Basically a 3-3-5 with the 2 outside linebackers as boxing ends.
@CoachMac3 жыл бұрын
Yes, if they can lock you up outside it’s a pain. Usually liked QB runs vs that style with gap schenes
