Vanessa I’m so sorry but those verbs are completely diferents Lay - means to put or place. Lay the book on the table ( past- Laid ) Lei - means recline. All he does is to lie around watching soap opera every day ( past- Lay ) The problem is that the infinitive of one verb is the past of the other. I spent hours trying to figure it out ;-)

Hi Vanessa, I do enjoy your channel, congrats! It's awesome! I have a doubt...How about the questions without the do/does, just with intonation, are they so often? Because in my mother tongue we just make questions by intonation, we don't have something like the "do/does" .

Hi Vanessa. I´ve seen many english speakers eliminate the clause "do" or "does" when they are in casual conversations, I mean when they ask a question I think they erase them. But a person who has struggled many years with grammar focus teaching approaches is like...."no way.....why do they do it wrong?" When I try to imitate that I feel like if I were kicking the English dictionary. I would like to know if using the complete question in a casual conversation can produce this effect that you described at the video...."this man is very concerned about grammar....I prefer to talk with somebody else...." Can that happen? native speakers can feel that?

Hi Vanessa: We like your English teaching. You have a nice, clear pronounciation and pretty face to shadowing :) Most of the native English speakers haven't got mouth so they speak as ventriloquist. Specialy here 'down under' when they asking: AurUgo my mite? Is that acceptable?

"There's a lot of books" sounds grammatically correct to me, since the subject (a lot) is singular. Books is just a complement, and the verb doesn't directly relate to it. But maybe grammatical perception is a bit different in english

When I used to go to shool , my teacher told us not to say "me and my friend" but "my friend and I" I didn't know we can use it en a conversational way. But it's true... school for me... it was a long time ago now ! And about lay and lie : I use the acceptable version and I'm a little bit confuse with this verb...

In the last mistake you commented I thought native English speakers use "there is" in the sentence "there's a lot of children's books..." because they were talking about: a lot, I meant, a group, and that's why they use is... like "there's a group of children's books... I didn't know that the correct grammar is with "there are" even though we are talking in plural... I don't know if you understand what I am saying 😛. Anyhow, thanks for share this information to us... your fans... 👍

With regard to the sentence "There's a lot of books", I heard somewhere that it could be correct because after "there's" we find the article "a" which is singular. That's why people use "is". What do you think? Does it make any sense? Anyway, thank you a lot for this lesson, Vanessa. That was very useful and you're great! :-)))
@migonbrah
@migonbrah 6 жыл бұрын
I believe the thing with "there's a lot of..." is mainly because of "a" lot of. If you say "many" or "several" instead, I guess everybody would naturally say "there are".
