Stuff you probably already own: "Prop Tool" - 8mm driver. "Prop Grip" - one work glove for your off-hand. "Drone Bag" - any bag, really. Sk8 bag is smart, thanks Drew. (Look for old DJI Phantom bags. They're cheap now and hold lots of stuff.) "Radio Lanyard" if your TX didn't come with one you can use any lanyard, but use one cuz dropping your radio even once will likely damage it. (bybe bye switches!) Antennas: It's good to have a patch if you need it and having a set of LHCP antennas as an option to help filter out a buddy's "leaky" VTX can come in handy. (RHCP guys can still ride along with you but with less reception...for them.) A battery checker is very valuable as well. It's a hassle to plug in and have to wait for OSD only to find out you've plugged in a flat pack.

Always look forward to the rotor riots weekly uploads. Especially when my man Bubby is featured. Would love to see you make a video on prop choices for different 5” freestyle styles and weighted frames. All my quads are heavy boys (720-760g) and lately I’ve been confused on which props I like lately. I tried everything from low pitch P3s to high pitch 4.7 Gemfans... I’d like to hear your take on it

Fyi directional antennas have a null of the back but not as big as of the sides and certainly not the gain you get from in front. Because the signal rejection isn't as strong off the back, this is why you can get a decent signal behind you.

A battery checker is waaaay more important than a motor grip.
@MateuszPolkowski
@MateuszPolkowski 3 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Both are equally important. You can check the battery level with your quad and use any fabric to protect your hands from prop cuts. So you could do without both. However, in my case I rarely take out my battery checker throughout the day of flying, but whip out my motor grip every time I need to swap a broked prop. I didn't get the point of a motor grip, but ever since I used one I don't what to spaw props without one.
@bigdatapimp
@bigdatapimp 3 жыл бұрын
@@MateuszPolkowski in 3 years ive never need a piece of rubber to grab a motor, but I constantly use my battery checker. When you have a pile of batteries its nice and more reliable to be able to check before you plug in. BF will not give the actual per cell voltage. It will only give you an average based on the cell count it is guessing you have plugged in.
@MateuszPolkowski
@MateuszPolkowski 3 жыл бұрын
@@bigdatapimp That is the reason I have red, yellow and green TPU XT60 plugs to color code my LiPos empty, storage or full. :D I can have a ton of batteries that I don't need to check at all while in the field. ;) I also stick a label on each LiPo with a number and a date of first charge. And lately I also keep a notebook and a pen to record some notes on my flights like weird things that I noticed with any of my drones to check out later, that I would otherwise forget. Ok, I'm a control freak. XD

I have a lanyard bc I'm not a mad man, and antennae bc you need them. The rest of this stuff is really meh.. I am a newb and can put my props on without the motor grip. My bag is the same one I use for school because I don't feel the need to advertise that I am carrying around a thousand bucks worth of equipment on me, and I use an old 8mm socket from my rc helicopter tool kit. No special "prop tool" needed.

Agree with #4 always have spare antennas with you, as for the rest of the stuff you can make do with anything you have to hand, you don't need to buy all the stuff. I have been a big fan of Rotor Riot from the start but it seems to be going downhill these days so jump back 5 years and start again. ( Just my opinion and sill Subscribed )

For me, a must have: Fire extinguisher. Learned to carry this in my pack so it's always at hand back when I used to fly giant scale planes. Saved several of my friends and even put out a brush fire or 2. Strangely I've never had to use it on one of my planes or quads. I wouldn't be without one. Get a 2 or 3 pound halotron if you can afford it, but the aerosol can cheapies work ok and are better than nothing. I keep 2 in the door compartments of my truck and a smaller one in my backpack. PS Edit - NEVER use a dry chemical, they will ruin anything you spray with them, you'd be better off stomping out your balsa stick built biplane than spraying it with dry chemical. Jet flyers won't even allow them on the property.

Dictionary: "accessory: a thing which can be added to something else in order to make it more useful, versatile, or attractive." So I wouldn't class antennas as an accessory, much like I wouldn't class props as an accessory. Backpacks designed for drones are a perfect example of an accessory because you can use other types of bags.

And the drivel continues from RR.. 1) it's an 8mm drive. 2) No one has ever needed a motor grip - here's a little advice, it doesn't need to be that tight. When you nip it down and the motor starts moving in your fingers, stop trying to tighten it further. 3) There is nothing wrong with using tupperware. Yes, a bag would be easier but it's not an "essential" Basic things needed when going flying 1) A big bag of batteries - this way you can keep flying and learn how to fly 2) A charger to keep charging the batteries - (if you have access to a field battery/ deep cycle battery even better) 3) A good quality soldering iron - A TS100 is a staple choice and I love mine. 4) A good quality tool kit - An iFixIt is perfect, or the TBS toolkit, another good one. 5) Spare props - You're gonna crash 6) If you have the spare cash either an additional drone or spares of your current rig, (motor, top plate, arms, nuts, spacers)

I would disagree with backpack. If you value your radio and your equiopment, a backpack is a great way to ruin your gear. An example would be a backpack in the hatchback/trunk/bed of your vehicle. Yea just let it fling around all willy nilly. If you going hiking to get to your spot OK but if your going to drive to your spot hop out and fly well then store your investment in a somethin of quality storage and foamed out. Just my 2 cents

2:00 Don’t buy a torvol, jeez. I bought myself the pitstop pro and it ain’t even worth half its price. All those sided pockets that look so nice have zero space available the moment you close them, and the bag is heavy and bulky af. Not recommendable even if it costed 50€ rather than 180€.
