On this special field trip feature, we want to take you behind the scenes at Little Pond Farm in Bushnell, FL. The 2 genius farmer's that have spearheaded this organic farm are truly running a legitimate production & you will be quite impressed by the massive harvest that is happening during our visit.
If you have ever been to the Saturday Morning Market in St. Petersburg. FL - you have likely seen Little Pond Farm's impressive display of seasonal veggies & cut flowers.
If you aren't from the region, be ready to meet some really incredible young farmers who have truly mastered the art of market farming in Florida. For those who know, Florida has a long list of challenges for growing the good majority of annual vegetables - but Cole Turner & Ellen Trimarco have crushed those challenges & are setting the bar for diversity in the seasonal feast on their Farmers' Market tables.
We have never seen such a bounty of rainbow-colored abundance & even though Florida has it's seasonal challenges - but being able to grow so much all year long is definitely our fortune. Wintertime is a favorite season when it comes to annual vegetables, unlike those in cooler climates. For all of our friends growing in high tunnels & taking a rest during the snowy/icy season - welcome to our eternal summer. "TIS THE SEASON" of Annual Vegetable Production in Florida. This is how a 5 Acre harvest of winter veggies & flowers go to market!

I would love to see a follow-up on this farm in the future! I'm a much older market farmer(lol) and it really makes me proud to see young people getting into this way of life! Market farming on this scale is a lifestyle and not just a job. It is so rewarding but you have to love doing it! This has become my favorite youtube channel. I listen/watch videos on the days that I work in the greenhouses and this is my go-to channel. Thank you so much Pete for the amazing content that you're putting out!

I have to agree with the previous viewer. This video gives me hope. I am a much older person and just got my own personal no dig organic veg garden started in 2016 (I have been a flower gardener for years so I understand creating healthy soil). I commend these young people for their dedication to this operation. People of all ages can also grow healthy food right in their own yards and even mix the veggies in with their perennials, shrubs and trees. It doesn’t have to just be a rectangle in the back yard. It can be beautiful and fun as well. The no dig layering method even keeps the heavy work to a minimum. The concept of growing our own food should become part of most peoples lives again. It is also a way to feed our soil and keep valuable waste from being put in the landfills. There are so many misconceptions about composting at home that need to be put to rest as well. People can turn our sick food system and health around by getting involved in organic vegetable gardening whether its buying from local growers or growing their own at home. Who would give this a thumbs down? This video is another winner!

It seems like most of the successful small vegetable farmers grow lots of "greens" in particular. I just starting trying to watch similar videos and have not come across successful small farmers that are growing squash, okra, green beans, butter beans, white acre peas, sweet corn etc......THANKS FOR POSTING!! THIS IS WHAT YOU TUBE IS GOOD FOR!! Wonderful video, editing everything.

Pete it amazes me the knowledge and drive many of these young people have. I'm sure they could write books etc. that would rock also. Its just so refreshing to see so many beautiful and diverse farms in these small communities thrive like they seem to do. Nothing in life comes free that's for sure. They are paying their dues through hard work and the mindset to always perform at the top of their game. You can see it in the farm itself and the personal interviews. What an incredible inspiration they are to others !!

@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL I do a little everyday. I've been looking for a landscaping job but nobody wants someone without a license so I've been growing some produce. Ran into some problems with caterpillars and silk worms on my cucumbers and some fire blight on most of my tomatoes but now I know what I did wrong so I put down cardboard in the greenhouses to hinder caterpillars and I'm removing all the messed up tomatoes. Hope that one day you'll stop by weekiwachee for "Jensen's Corner Produce".

while catching up on your videos the other day (I'm a new fan)... I stumbled on this video on Little Pond Farm. Very impressed by these young people. A day after I watched it there was an article in the Tampa Bay Times about how the the St. Petersburg Saturday morning market has changed now with the COVID-19 virus. Little Pond Farms was featured... and how the new farmers market model has changed to a pre-ordered and pre-paid online model.

Hi Pete, what a great catch. Being following market gardening videos lately and these two energetic partners are certainly top of the top given their age and background with no agriculture degrees. You have to be smart to able to handle 5 acres with that produce. That’s giant size for an organic farming with limited man power. Guess it’s their passion that drive to them to labour 9-12hours back breaking week after week. Both are so assuming. Love your choice Pete!

My first job was working for what would now be called a market farmer in 1953. I was 13 years old and he hired three boys to do mostly weeding and other miscellaneous chores. Oh yeah, I got paid 45 cents an hour. What impressed me about his farm was when I got to be an adult and remembered what he did. He had 13 acres, supported two families, his and his son's family, and built a new brick house. Not bad for 13 acres.

Maricel Sevadera thanks! In Costa Rica they call markets “Féria” also. Sounds like you have a good garden started. Yes typically vining crops need to be planted in the ground. I’ve seen pumpkins grown up trees though, so anything is possible.

Mar Barnes I think they've been doing it so long it's just going through the motions now. It's not work when you believe and live what you do. Must be all those good veggies 😉

WOW! Look at them growing on what looks like beach sand! A lot of sand in that soil. Do they take Jun, July and August off or do they produce all year long? I bet the cool trick with the globe does not feed that young man. LOL

Suggestion for root disease, fungus and nematodes, try a pack of 'WOW Mustard', their roots do the work, a very strong mustard that is excellent as a fungicide and nematoid repeletant, just saying... of course always French Marigolds

I'm all about growing to give to those who need. I'm not looking for any agency especially the government telling us "we will determine the standards" of "organic terminology". If u need such certificate for maximizing sales so be it. But, to provide for those without they see such blessings way beyond concerns about whether it's been given a sticker by the man! Give & it shall be given back, pressed down & flowing over in abundance for those who need. Let the blessings from your work feed the multitudes of those who are greatful with there stomach, hearts, & bless u in prayer for all good things to come. Be blessed. 30% vinegar compost is working on the worms on many leafy greens & others. Living in Sorrento, 20 minutes north Orlando. Blessings upon u.
