Hello sir, my name is Dorsa,from Iran. I took my IELTS exam about 2 weeks ago and I managed to get a band 7 in speaking thanks to you. I found your videos by accident in youtube and i practiced your lessons for around one month before my exam and it was really helpful. It was like i had a bunch of words and idioms in my mind but you showed me how to use them properly. I couldn’t buy your gold course because of our worthless currency but I’m going to buy it as soon as i get out of my country. Thank you so much sir, you saved my exam. Thank you for providing us free content in such quality. May God bless you and your family ❤️

To be honest with you, you put your cards on the table and gave incredible free learning tips. I am lucky that I found you here, because you always twist my arm to study smart, keeping my eyes peeled for error-free usages of less common idioms and phrases like 'golf down' and 'to be on the same page' to pass IELTS with flying colors. So students, please never let our teacher Keith's valuable advices fall on deaf ears and tell learning idioms is not my cup of tea, because English is part and parcel of excellent job prospects in the future. Best of luck!❤🎉

Some of them are very close to the Portuguese ones, like: Fall on deaf ears, which meas literaly cair em ouvidos surdos. As for "it is not my cup of tea" I'd never heard it, but it does not sound strange, at least for me. Great channel. I'm enjoing here from Brazil.

Hi Keith, once again you've produced an amazing video. Without a doubt, idioms aren't a piece of cake for a foreigner. However, I realised from your video that they might be easier to remember and use if they're quite similar in your own language. I'm Spanish, and as you're living in Spain, I'd appreciate it if you could create more videos about idioms that are alike in Spanish. I hope we're on the same page, and you'll make more idiom videos while bearing in mind what I've just said. Thanks in advance, as it's always a pleasure to learn with you. Unconsciously, you motivate me to keep on learning English. Thanks a million!

Here's a short story using some of the idioms you provided: Keith was not interested in going on the hiking trip with his friends. "Twist my arm why don't you, but hiking is just not my cup of tea," he told them. His words seemed to fall into deaf ears though, as his friends kept insisting he join them. "Come on, Keith, hiking is part and parcel of living in the South Island!" his friend Joshua said. "Yeah, you and Joshua are like two peas in a pod, you've got to come along," chimed in their other friend Jo. Keith decided to put his cards on the table. "Look guys, I know you mean well, but I just don't enjoy hiking. I'd rather kick the bucket than go on these wilderness trips with you every month!" His friends finally got the hint and stopped pestering Keith. On Saturday, they set off on their hike without him. That evening, just as Keith was settling in at home, he learned that Josh had fallen and broken his leg on the trail. As Keith rushed to the hospital, he realized that every cloud has a silver lining. Even though he hadn't enjoyed the hike, staying back had put him in the right place to help his injured friend. After all, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, he thought to himself. At the hospital, the doctor told them they were lucky Josh got help quickly. "A stitch in time saves nine - good thing you got him here fast or it could have been much worse." Keith was glad that in the end, they were on the same page about keeping their eyes peeled for each other. Please leave your comment, there must be some error grammerticly or logically!
@zwohh
@zwohh 7 ай бұрын
I read through the story again from a logical and meaning perspective: Overall, the story flows well and the sequence of events makes sense. The character motivations and reactions also seem reasonable. A few specific points: - It's believable that Keith wouldn't enjoy hiking and his friends would keep persuading him to go. His use of idioms like "twist my arm" and "not my cup of tea" effectively convey his reluctance. - Keith saying he'd "rather kick the bucket" than go hiking again is clearly an exaggeration for effect, but does indicate his strong aversion. This isn't illogical. - The timing works that his friend Josh gets injured when Keith stays back from the hike. Keith's realizations about "every cloud..." and "a bird in hand..." in this situation make sense. - The doctor's statement about "a stitch in time" also logically connects to the need for quick medical care for Josh. - The ending with Keith being glad they are "on the same page" about looking out for each other provides nice closure. Overall, the plot events, character dialogues, and use of idioms are logically consistent throughout the story. Let me know if you have any other specific concerns!

@EnglishSpeakingSuccess

It's impossible to say. It depends on the context and what you area saying. I don't think you should be using them in every answer, they need to be relevant to the context of what you are saying or writing.

"to twist someone's arm" has got its analogin the Russian language. It sounds like this: "to twist someone's armS". The tiny difference gives birth to the intensification of the idiom's meaning, I suppose.
