We all know and love grand marques, Champagne houses like Bollinger, Taittinger and Ruinart that have earned worldwide recognition for consistently delivering high-quality bubbles. But I want to encourage you to try smaller artisanal Champagne houses - those that have either chosen to make their own wine instead of selling grapes to larger estates or have always done it.

Doyard is my favorite grower Champagne - I didn’t think I liked Champagne at all until I tried their Blanc de Blancs. Egly-Ouriet was the next Champagne I had that I fell in love with, and I have a bottle saved for a special occasion! Thanks for this insight, it’s always fun to learn about good wines. I have had Laherte’s Blanc de Blanc Brut Nature too and really enjoyed it, and one of my favorite Champagnes is all Pinot Meunier so it’s neat to see that grape recognized.

I’m lucky to live near to a small independent French wine shop who have been showcasing smaller houses for the season. Champagne Pierre Gobillard was superb. Will just have to keep exploring!!! 😃

I have started to buy mostly Grower Champagnes: they are a good bargain, and it's fun to explore all their differences. I have begun to think of French Champagne as my wine of choice; not out of snobbishness, but because it goes with everything and even is a pleasure and treat, alone.

hello amazing selection (got most of them in my cellar)! Champagne has evolved considerably these last years. Some other producers i'm in love with: Suenen, Savart, Selenque, Bouvet, Lahaye and there are many more.

I hope You get to find at least one of them. Truly great and quality is high. But.. these are also Champagnes with a very distinct style and some might not be a crowd pleasers.

Love your channel and what great video Agnes. Such an interesting topic. Grower Champagnes are sometimes hard to find, but worth the search. Here are a couple more that I would encourage you to try: Goulin-Roualet , Domaine Andre Robert-'Les Vignes de Montigny', & Remy Massin are a few that I enjoy. Happy New Year and keep the videos coming. I love your insight and intelligent views of the world of wine!

Nice video! I tried only Agrapart from the ones you suggest, it is generally too steely and tart for my taste. From the other ones, which one(s) are somewhat richer/ voloptuous in style? Santé, Tim

Great video Agnese, I love Champagne and have visited a great many small growers over the years, my own 'favourite five' being Tarlant, Launois, Guy Charlemagne, Ruffin and Borel-Lucas, all great Champagnes and real value for money. I will certainly try those you recommend though (and I already do have some LB in my cellar).

My absolute favorite is Tarlant, La Lutetienne 2005 and for special events Le Vigne d‘Antan 2004

I was considering adding Tarlant to the list, but I am not sure it is small estate. 🤓🤓 but they make really beautiful champagnes! 😄

2004 is one of my favourite vintages of Champagne, and critics didn’t praise it as much, so it can be quite available. 🙌🙌🙌

Hi Agnese, I first met the Tarlants in the late 1980's when the tastings were held in their kitchen and I was treated more like a long lost relative whenever I visited them - such happy days. They have grown a bit since then and their current tasting room can accommodate a bus trip but they still make superb Champagnes and my younger daughter insisted we had their Champagne at her wedding (my son asked for Billecart-Salmon when he got married!)..

I need to try these small, artisan winery wines because most of Champaign I have had so far, has been extremely disappointing. they feel like wines made by the formula, some are better than others but most are just uninspiring😢

Well, small producer not necessarily means good always. But these mentioned here are well established and loved by many, therefore safe place to start’ 🙏🏻

Awesome video! Before christmas or new year, would you consider making a video on another "wine movement" in France, the Garagiste movement in Bordeaux that originated in the 1990s? Could pick a few wines and producers for the Christmas holiday special table or New Year's eve?

Hi! A bit unrelated question, do you think I can drink 2021 chablis grand cru right away or should it rest for a few years? I have Luis Michel&Fils Vaudesir as a Christmas present.

Hi! Yes, You can drink it, however I think more pleasure it might give after few more years in the bottle! And that bottle is beautiful, Louis Michel is one of my top Chablis producers. 🤫

It's not just ":artisinal wineries" that grow their own grapes to make great wines. The large :"agricultural growers" that supply brands like Moet, Veuve, and Dom ALL make their own champagne--and almost ALL the wines these growers make themselves are Grand Cru, because the "big boys" won't buy from them if they aren't Grand Cru rated vineyards. And the FIRST rule fo getting Grand Cru status for a vineyard is that they MUST produce a Grand Cru rated champagne. Brands like Noble, Mailly, and De Margerie all produce extremely fine champagnes, and their Grand Crus are often 1/10th the price of a Grand Cru from someone like Veuve, Bollinger, or Moet.

I drink far more grower Champagne than Grandes Marques nowadays, simply because they are far better value - provided one has a good wine merchant.

I understand why You say so, however, I am not completely convinced. I think large producers also produce epic wines and champagnes, and there is room for everyone.

@@NoSediment I just love that craftsmanship and operating with less equipment and old machinery and still producing something crazy. Also i am in love with brut nature. All big houses mostly have dosage, and extra dry and sometimes even just brut, is to me sweet. Love your channel, thanks for reply!
