Snake isn't a stand alone system and not that involved. It's one of Hung Gar's animals. Those are the real "5 Animals": Tiger, Crane, Leopard, Snake and Dragon. But the most focus is placed on Tiger and Crane...the other three are mostly variations of Tiger and Crane techniques. Wing Chun uses Snake as well but Wing Chun is modified Hung Gar Snake and Crane. Basically, Snake really isn't used much in Kung Fu. Few finger strikes and few overlapping deflections into strikes. Similar to Crane and Mantis. As opposed to Mantis. Which has full systems in both Northern and Southern Kung Fu. Southern systems are very different from the Northern ones. Northern Mantis having the most branches in Kung Fu though. Close to a dozen different Northern Mantis systems still in existence. Many Northern Longfist systems even integrating some Mantis sets and techniques into their curriculum.

5 Animals are: Tiger, Crane, Leopard, Snake, and Dragon. While there are dozens of "styles" and several full systems based on Animals: those are "The Five Animals" of Shaolin Kung Fu. Derived from Hung Gar system. (Wing Chun is modified Snake and Crane from Hung Gar) Most common full systems are Northern Praying Mantis, Southern White Crane, Northern Eagle Claw, Southern Praying Mantis, Southern Black Tiger and Northern Great/White Ape. Bagua and Xing Yi also use many animal techniques. Xing Yi using the 12 Animals.
@Chronicskillness Жыл бұрын
@Angellic Freedom I do Northern 7 Star Praying Mantis. And a Nanjing Central Kuoshu Northern Longfist system, Heibei branch Xingyiquan which has 12 animals (Dragon, Tiger, Bear, Monkey, Water Lizard, Chicken, Swallow, Sparrowhawk, Snake, Eagle, Mythical Tai Bird), Wing Chun (modified Snake and Crane from Hung Gar) and some Hung Gar. Heihuquan, Black Tiger, is a Shangdong Provide system. Where Northern Praying Mantis comes from. Black Tiger is modified Tiger from Hung Gar and Choi Li Fut with some high kicks thrown in. Monkey is it's own Southern system but also done in Hung Gar and some other systems. There's also Northern Tong Bei. Northern systems are fairly different from the Southern systems. Tong Bei is the Great White Ape. Northern Praying Mantis uses it's footwork. And Swan? Do you mean Mandarin Duck? Northern foot-poking system with angle changing deceptive kicks. We do some of it in our Longfist. Either way, when someone says the 5 Animals... it's: Tiger, Crane, Leopard, Snake and Dragon. I don't care what the Last Airbender or Kung Fu Panda or fakes like Jack Mace says. Ask any real Traditional Chinese Martial Artist and they will tell you the same thing. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_styles_in_Chinese_martial_arts

What about Panda?
@Chronicskillness Жыл бұрын
@@samschmit7181 Just 熊 Xióng (bear) in Xingyiquan and Baguazhang (internal systems). Xingyi's animals come from Bagua. Bear is pretty isolated and there's not much to it. It's a rising block/clear then dropping palm strike. In some Xingyi branches they combine Bear and Eagle. It becomes a bump where you're using an angle to create an opening and striking with an elbow. Second vid. Bear mostly trains use of body weight. Animals for the most part are over glorified in movies. There's a ton of them, but they're not systems and you're not imitating the animal. You wouldn't even know I was using Mantis or Crane techniques. Typically they're a set of techniques within a system. The exceptions being: the Northern and Southern Praying Mantis systems and Eagle Claw systems; Southern Tiger and Black Tiger; Southern Fujian White Crane; and I guess Tong Bei which is Northern Great Ape. Those are stand alone animal systems but they're still, like all Chinese Martial Arts, derived from multiple other fighting systems. Which is how Hung Gar started out. Just as Tiger boxing. Then it added Crane. Then they added Leopard, Snake and Dragon. Those are "The 5 Animals" Wing Chun is just modified Crane and Snake from Hung Gar in a high pitched horse or neutral stance. Good for basic self defense though. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b8Cle5B9yNjKlJ8.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNalbNh3yLnOhXU.html

I love how so many people don't understand that all of these eastern martial arts styles were developed for and used in wartime. These techniques are considerably tame compared to their earlier forms, back when eastern martial arts were taught to soldiers, every one of the styles you saw in this video was an effective tool for killing, and that is exactly what they were used for. The only reason most of these styles don't have the same effectiveness nowadays is because of a fair few reasons, but the two most common ones are Bad teachers who are teaching the techniques but not instructing the proper use for them in a combat situation, and 2, very strict regulations on what can be taught in martial arts because of how effective and dangerous it can be when learned properly.
