hi my fr, you are a rare breed of business owner. Not many people understand that empowering and educating your employees will empower yourself even more. Not to mention how respectful you speak to each and every one of them regardless of age, sex or knowledge level. You can see they all respect you a great amount. Keep it up, your reach is spreading and your message is being heard more and more. Even have my w ife watching some of the videos too (She is a high school teacher). I've only been in business a short time but you are definitely a model CEO.

You should probably get some shrink fit collets with a long taper so you can shorten your tool stick out and still get into the pockets and close to the vise.

It's incredible to me that you STILL need to check your CAM for crashes. You have to post to CAMplete, and manually check. I can't believe that crashes are still a thing.

VIDEO IDEA: comparison of Haas UMC-750 versus a $500 eBay listed 4th/5th axis table. Measure tolerances of finished part.

At 1:26, doing the Extrude, the preview is shaded, then at 1:27 magically it becomes 'wireframe-ish'. How did you do that?? I have tried to replicate that, but the only thing I can do is hold down CTRL while previewing the extrude, but you have me stumped. You have really got me interested in 5-axis.. before it was pie-in-the-sky, but with your excellent encouragement (emphasis on courage :-), how hard could it be?

Why run the part at 10:32 on a 5 axis when it looks like a simple 3 axis part? How would the run times compare?

Maybe a stupid question but does the reduced setup time (vs 3/4 Axis) compensate for the smaller width/depth of cuts ?
@dmbworks8094
@dmbworks8094 5 жыл бұрын
HSM style of cutting is typically opted for with lighter per tooth cutting. depending on the machine, in some cases HSM is faster regardless.

Great stuff!! John Saunders, other than a bigger work envelope, what advantages does the UMC have over something like the Haas TRT160 tilting rotary table that is installed in a 3 axis vertical cnc?
@dmbworks8094
@dmbworks8094 5 жыл бұрын
im not john but I don't see them answer much. Rigidity when it comes to making larger parts is probably the biggest advantage. also a youtube revenue advantage as they are much more interesting to watch haha. a true 5 axis machine is a great addition if you have a 3 axis to do things like the "zero" or clean up ops plus more typical job shop work. Just as john has done, progression is the way. i feel most people will have to go thru the steps of a 3 axis, to table top 5 axis to true 5 axis to build experience and work, especially those that are truly a self owned company.
@antshark
@antshark 5 жыл бұрын
@@dmbworks8094 thank you for your response. So it seems like it would make a lot of sense for someone to just add a "tabletop" rotary table. Unless you need to make bigger parts. One draw back to 5 axis machining is you're only making one part at a time. So for larger quantity parts it doesn't seem to make too much sense.

I don’t recommend putting a standard 3 jaw on the mill. Get something like the Lang 3 jaw chuck. Pretty sure 5th axis copied the exact stud layout so you can screw the 5th axis studs into the bottom of the Lang chuck.
