Great video, how do you keep track of what every individual tree needs? Do you keep a journal/calendar today know when to do repot, prune, etc? Just wondering how you keep track of everything, thanks!

Glad to see you back, learning from both you and Andrew certainly helps beginners like myself. Were those photos of trees in this video at your new location if so would be nice to see your new setup. Look forward to those new videos you mentioned.

What’s your guys thoughts on growing moss in the same pot as a juniper here in Australia? Any tips? I thought about removing my moss now and possible trying grass seeds as the moss just keeps dieing.
@BonsaiEn

Growing moss in your pot is great for your tree as it helps establish fine surface roots and slows down how quick the pot dries out. The best way to do this is to grind up dry moss and sieve some sphagnum moss at at 1:1 ratio. This will grow moss properly on your juniper. I wouldn't do grass seeds, the grass will fight your tree for water and nutrients.

Peace Brother i just subscribed and i have my first juniper bonsai tree. What do you mean by cook your roots?
@soundistraveling

And i looked up specifis for junipers. I usually water it when the soil is dry by doing the two inch soil test. And water it by put water on it teice to three times to drain

Hi there! Your videos are excellent, I've been binging them because soon I'll be planting some Eastern Red Cedar seeds that I intend on training into a bonsai. I have so many questions that I feel are too extensive to really just leave them down in the comments. Is it possible if I could get your email so I can get some help?

What did you say about Juniper? What does cook your roots in the pot mean?
@BonsaiEn
@BonsaiEn 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that's correct. In the dead heat of summer Bonsai Pots can become extremely hot in the sun, especially the glazed pots. This can cook the roots in the pot, while juniper roots do enjoy things on the warmer side they don't like being in extreme temperatures. Its a balancing act between giving it enough sun but not so much that it completely dries the soil before you can water again or cooking the roots. Some people who ca be home during summer to keep an eye on things wrap a wet towel around the pot to prevent it becoming too hot while still allowing the foliage to take in the sunshine

Great video. I live in south Portugal where we experience a lot of heat and rough summers aswell. I started to use, in the beginning, only akadama as soil but after i soon realized that my trees started to get weaker by losing a lot of water due to heat and because i could only water them at night. My question is, what can i mix with akadama that drains as good but doesnt let them dry as quick?? Thnks a lot and congrats from Portugal

sifted pine bark

@@dougc1941 i thought about that but i researched and i saw that it may turn the soil a bit more acidic, isnt that a problem in the future? Is it suitable for all the plants? Thnks for your reply

@@joaobalinha3631 the nice thing about sifted pine bark is they absorb water and fertilizer will keeping air channels open. aged bark is close to neutral. Tudo bem?

Good video. I look forward to a lot more on fertiliser and formulas. Just one comment, you know a lot of this stuff but it looked like you were reading everything off a prompt. It was a little distracting.

You are correct, this was more of a presented video rather then an off the hip type of video. I find that when your trying to share a large amount of information it helps to write it out as when you shoot from the hip you can tend to miss some points. We will still be doing off the hip videos but they are better when you have a tree to demonstrate with in front of you.

I take your point. I've done the same thing for a few videos. I always find myself looking at the footage after and wondering why I'm not smiling when I thought I was 😅 I love the detail though. As I said I can't wait for the fertiliser section
