The reason 400 speed doesn't feel that fast is because all units have an animation cap. Meaning that pretty much everything has a cap to movement speed

Except the number used in calculations, i.e. calculating a charge, is the one of the unit card. So there is a visual movement cap but not a technical one.

I'd say the biggest usecase for respeccing your lords and heroes are after you consolidate the AI. Some of the auto picks are quite interesting...

The skill reset is very good for the confederation lords and hero which in my opinion is best change since the start of the Trilogy

Honestly i think u should be able to respec 1 skill point per turn...would be fair and allow tweaking of skills over time. Makes more sense too

I'm super excited for the disengage changes. I feel like that will make my cavalry a whole lot more effective if they're not constantly getting bogged down by one or two models. This patch kind of feels like an olive branch from CA. Like, just trying to fix some things that people have been complaining about for a while. I like it.

I do agree. It never made sense to me. A griffon caverly rider trained to lead a fearsome majestic beast of the Empire, is halted by two zombies with lead pipes.

it's not an olive branch, it's something to make the players shut up. It's going to be an olive branch when they apologize for banning the players for speaking out and lower the DLC prices.

Until they remove pocket dimension, ladders, walls will not mean anything ever. I think perhaps the simplest solution would be to have units climb ladders much slower and maybe that would be enough to make the difference. Until then everyone is just going to cheese it

They should also allow the wall towers to show directly to the sides so they can shoot people next to or climbing the walls. Tldr making the range cone 180 degrees

Yeah, unless you can fully cover the entire wall with your units Walls are arguable worse (since the AI spends a turn building siege stuff to start it, costing you some garrison damage)

Sieges will never be balanced. T4/5 Towers are to OP. Early sieges will always be pushovers and late sieges will always be totally annoying because of the guaranteed 20 stack sitting in every single city with another 16 sitting outside and t5 exploding, magical missiles wrecking your units...

Damn you got my hopes up with greasus there... With sieges, i'd perhaps quite like the idea of Either a campaign map upgrade, or an in siege battle of deploying wall spikes to make either all (via an upgrade) or individual walls( via spending the battle points) to add long metal pikes etc which makes deploying ladders there impossible. It'd give an actual decent reason to need to blow up towers and walls.

I'd love to see the ability to construct artillery as temporary siege equipment, and make it harder for units to climb walls. You get the options of either scaling a wall with the towers, destroying walls with artillery, or bashing the gate with the ram or monsters in your army. Select thematic units should be able to climb walls without ladders or penalty, like gutter runners.

One of the main reasons I have trouble with sieges is just mostly the AI, which I'm not sure if it's been addressed in the update. Giving an order for a unit to climb walls or move through gates is an absolute pain because the units split up and you can't even see where your actual unit is because they're separated across the map sometimes. But the infinite building thing is good at least. Destroying a tower just for it to be back in 90 seconds after wasting all your ammo on it is frustrating. Another issue I hope they address it clarifying line of sight because there has been a lot of times you just wonder why your ranged units aren't firing when they have clear line of sight, and this happens in sieges as well from the battlements. I think they need to have clearer icons like they have on the unit cards that show better if they're in combat or anything related like that because there's so many times you don't know if your unit is actually doing what you want them to do.

I feel like the addittion of specific upgrades to walls and fortifications would benefit the siege battles immensely. Try imaging something like this : maybe through specific resources or simply through money, the settlement can be upgraded with cauldrons of boiling oil, spiked walls, reinforced walls, pits right outside the walls or even mud pits to slow the enemy while they approach. (also,the addition of more places to build barricades is a freaking GOD-SEND!)

If it was worth the price C.a was mainly trying to cash in but alot were disappointed and didn't want to buy it so they started fixing the game the way the customers wanted and as i said, they will be able to increase the prices but don't take the piss.

400 speed doesn't feel fast because there is a hidden hard cap on speed, which is tied to animation. Same reason why you can't have infinite reload speed and create machinegun archers.

The Improving of the homing of magic missiles will certainly also increase the use of talismans adding magical resistance. Since more projectiles are more likely to hit, more magical defence will be essential

Cut, paste, Rome II siege mechanics, end of story. Also, making possible to increase garrison xp out of combat is a must. Finally, include FIGHTING RETREAT in this and ALL past Total War games.

Reading over the patch notes I'm generally eager to try the changes, but I disagree with the change to the Hero ability *Training:* _The embedded Hero action “Training” now increases experience gained for units within the army, rather than a flat amount per turn._ I liked the Training skill because it allowed you to slowly rank up an army that wasn't seeing combat. The clue is in the name - it's not a skill that makes you gain more experience when you are in a battle, it's... _Training._ It filled an appropriate niche. At least, that's how I always felt about it. Thoughts?

Imho it was waaay to slow to ever be really useful. Maybe I play a lot faster, but having an army sit around for 10 turns to gain a single rank whilst you pay upkeep seems like a waste of resources. Even if you guard a border, moving out to plunder and pillage when there is no threat will train up your army faster and put some use to that dormant upkeep.

Training has been an issue, in that the amount of XP it gives is really too small to mean all that much. You'd rather put those points in, say, the red line, which buffs your army without you having to wait 20 turns. This solution is, I would guess, intended to make the skill as useful for relatively veteran armies as it is to green recruits. That said, I take your point that this has removed a role for the skill in allowing defensive armies to partly keep up with offensive ones. I guess buffing the XP gain would have made the skill powerful for early armies but still not that good for vets.

Old training only gave 150 xp per turn and you require over a 1000 per chevron I believe. You'd have to be out of combat for over 10 turns just for a level which isn't ideal, especially since if an army hasn't seen combat in 10 turns it's probably unnecessary. Another downside is that embedded hero skills don't stack your army only takes 1 so you couldn't add additional heroes for more xp gain. At least with this new one fighting battles will give more xp (55% more when the skill is maxed out) which will contribute to leveling your lord and heroes faster along with your units a more substantial buff in my opinion

Guns can be quite useful on offence if you manage to push the defender off the wall. Standing on the wall they have quite good sightlines on the settlement and easily shoot over your melee troops. Still janky though.

I wouldn't mind sieges if it wasn't 90% of all the battles i was playing, i've not had a field battle that was of note in total war in forever

So are you only attacking major settlements or something? The majority of my battles are usually land battles with siege and settlement battles only a rare occasion.

I think there should still be more incentive to defend the walls, like perhaps give defending units on the wall a 10 to 20% missile resistance, a 10 to 15% boost range for ranged units (since they are elivated above the ground. I also think that units defending the walls should get a plus 15 to 20% melee defence and melee attack, and units scaling the walls should get a minus 10 to 15% percent melee defence, aswell as losing some stamina aswell, because scaling a wall with ladders in armor carrying weapons and defending against attacks from the walls would be tiring, and attempting to get on the walls from either a siege tower or from ladders would be very diffictult and dangerous if there are defenders there. Now given all these buffs the defender clearly has the advantege, so perhaps the attacker would get extra currency for their army would balance things out

ALL they need, is to bring back carrying ladders Like Siege towers, but you get like 2 for free, and each build gives you another 3 or something So units can't just walk up to the wall and climb it. They're gonna have a limit of the locations they can climb. So you can actually defend it. As it is now. Unless you can defend the ENTIRE wall its pointless. They'll climb up and flank your unit. And Archers can be attacked in melee easilly with the butt-laders So unless you're in the Cathay Bastion where you get enough units and the wall's small enough. The walls are litterally a downside to defend in most cases (the AI spends a turn building siege gear and gives you attrition instead of full strength garrison

Some of your suggestions are currently in the game: - Units on walls should receive reduced missile damage already. - Elevation of ranged units increases missile damage, though I don't think it increases the range (see blogpost on terrain). - Units using ladders expend a great amount of stamina and lose melee attack and defence as a result of that. I do agree that some additional incentive to stay on the wall after the very first contact would be great, such as a melee buff as you suggested.

@@kharnthebetrayer8251 indeed, perhaps infantry can have climbing ropes for free, like in older total war games, but they would climb up it slowly, and only 1 or 2 can actually climb on it at the same time. When a soldier gets very close to the top a defender soldier can attack them, and the soldier climbing up would get a minus 30 or 40% melee defence whilst climbing. Lastly, each soldier that gets to the top will either be tired, very tired or exhausted. This would make more sense from a more realistic standpoint, climbing a rope is tiring, especially if you're equiped with weapons and armor, and one gets near the top a defending soldier can attack you, and since you're climbing a rope you'll be hard pressed to defend yourself

Climbing ladders eats through vigor like nothing. So your units will be hitting those Fatigue debuffs. Also, since the models are trickeling in one by one, the defenders have plenty of opportunities to get flanking buffs. (That's why most people aren't using them)

@@kharnthebetrayer8251 Honestly it's probably impossible to make units carry ladders. Between the differences in unit models between all the different factions and the different unit models intra-factions, the work involved in making different ladder-carrying animations is beyond what the modeling team can realistically put time into. It's far better to have implied ladder carrying. It's not like ladders are hard to build, it's entirely logical that a full army can build them in a couple of hours from their baggage train or the surrounding area. And it's not like Total War has had ladders like this for a long time. They stopped making ladders after Medieval 2. Empire and Napoleon have infantry with grappling hooks to rapel up for fort walls, Shogun 2 has infantry climb walls with their bare hands and Rome 2 and Attila has a set of scaffolding ladders be built automatically for besieging armies. All that really needs to be done for ladders is to make the units climbing them more vulnerable so there's more incentive to use siege towers. Extra damage, chance to fall when attacked, period of vulnerability beyond just being tired when on the walls, stuff like that.

Skill Respec is really good for whenever you confederate a lord that has been misleveled by the AI , you get them, you are usually safe to have their army sit out for 3 turns and then level them up correctly

The skill respect button is welcome. The mod before this was pretty much necessary when the AI us generally pick terrible skills and whatnot, but I feel this is better than the mod because 3 turns is more balanced than 1000 gold, especially for late game economic powerhouse factions. And 400 speed Greasus will always be amazing.

If there's still instant siege attrition most people will just sally out making these changes basically useless It's up to the AI if they want to spend 10 turns surrounding your cities or actually give you a chance for a fun battle

Yeah, I don't think sieges should cause attrition, but rather that armies will surrender or sally out when they run out of supplies, even at full health. So it lets you hole up and wait, but also incentivizes you to break the siege before you lose the settlement for nothing.

I hate instant seige attrition, it feels stupid that my dwarf city instantly starts to starve the moment an army of goblins run up to seige the top city, that's basically a 24/7 thing for the dwarfs, not a, we can't even keep our troops fed

Very good changes indeed. I just want more places to place the towers and better positions.Many times they are obstructed,cant shoot,or a simple tree blocking the shots (lizardman map). Is Hellcannon shot homing fixed?

On one hand, I love the changes and reworks, on the other hand, they still have a long way to go and I hope that they continue doing these type of things and don’t just call it day with one patch. I’m still worried what the Thrones of Decay will bring and that it’s name isn’t going to be an allegory of what’s going to happen

More slight tweaks to a broken system that won't ultimately change anything. The issues with sieges can't be fixed by moving a slider.

I never knew about the models getting stuck in combat on a dis engage. Explains soo many frustrating moments where I gave retreat commands over and over even shift clicking them and getting soo frustrated my units wouldnt pull out XD

They fixed greasus in the latest hotfix. I did like the little cheeky note they added that they'll make sure he would not outrun every cav. Gotta give props for sense of humor

Unit speed is essentially capped through animations. With the right set-up, you can get Skaven weapon teams to have the same speed value as some cavalry horses, but they'll still be much slower.

I still had problems trying to disengage fell bats because a few were trapped. Kept flying back to the fight.

Just had a really fun seige with Dwarves where I used cannons to break down an entire section of wall, pulled up some irondrakes and thunderers, and sent in my lord to kite enemies into the kill zone I had created. It worked shockingly well.

I think the barricade are bigger changes than it seems on the first glimpse. yes it's 'only' 1000 and 2000 hp changes compared to before but thats still 20% more hp than before.

The main reason the respec button is a big deal is becouse the AI always fucks up lvls and confederating a high lvl LL with horribly distributed skill points was pain.

SInce the AI doesn't attack you while you dmg the gates, it does not matter if they have 100k hp or 5, it's just a matter of time. And I have yet to see the AI damaging a wall in 1000 hours, they always just attempt to climb, which is still way to easy and the real issue.

It does help, for starters, it means that rams are way better, they deal a lot of damage, the problem is they such because they take so Ling to reach the gate, with a larger HP pool the big ram damage is way more valuable, even if it's not optimal, and even still, time outside the gates is time your getting shot by the enemy

Structure hit points really needed the buff.... I'm in a grand Cathay camp and periodically the walls get attacked and the gates hold up for fells like a minute before they're destroyed....I'm think to myself that these are supposed to hold up to attacks being it's what divides their territories from the realms of chaos.. lol

So in the cities there's alot of areas that look like it would be great for Gunnery units or crossbows to use but the units never line up and they don't seem to fire from them. They need to address that its obvious the map makers were thinking of people using them like that.

The HP scales with lvl of the settlement. It goes beyond 12K for gate. Max I think is 16K

How to fix game and ui blur on 2K resolution? Disabling antialiasing is not enough.. UI is tiny on 100% scale and it is blurry on any higher setting.. I spent hours looking for solution, but no luck.

I'm so happy that they fixed the horribly annoying settlement towers thing, those buggers having insane range and the Ai constantly popping them back up when you break one...was so annoying. Now can clear a area and move in bit by bit without towers chipping away at me constantly.

I play with Ultimate warband upgrade mod which gives the vast majority of races the chaos ability. Does it make the game easier, yup, but I like that my starting empire spearmen provided I can keep them alive and rank them up can end up as Greatswords - or my starting dwarf warriors, after countless battles, progress through being longbeards into Ironbreakers. Instead of deleting these units just because I have new buildings and skill which allow me to insta-recruit top tier units.

i think we should be able to respec 1 skill point per turn...would be fair and allow tweaking of skills over time. Makes more sense too

Someone in CA was definitely having a laugh when they changed Geasus’s speed value. After all, it’s not like they have a QA department to catch those kinds of ‘mistakes’

Having blockable sections on BOTH sides of a chokepoint is a great improvement. The idea was always you block one and put men on the other side but it was just annoying AF, you'd put your blokes on one side and then they'd go and attack your blockade and you'd have to run around to their rear or pull back and get behind your barrier, it was super annoying. This feels like a step in the right direction finally

The campaign achievement conditions aint that big of a deal since since when completing the end game crisis it counts as ultimate victory, so you can just put the will of hashut or the tomb kings one if you are close to it ( which are the most conventient ones to do) on the lowest difficulty and its faster most of the times than the long conditions if you dont wanna play for that long.
