I'm a poolee right now, when people ask me I say I'm enlisted in the marine corps but I'm always sure to specify that I'm not really a marine yet, that I haven't gone to bootcamp yet. I'm a poolee right now and I've been making damn sure that I stay clear of these kinds of stupid mistakes, and I ESPECIALLY steer clear of the 4th mistake. my SSGT told us that now we're being referred to as "future Marines" instead of "poolees", but honestly I fucking HATE that term, and so does my recruiter. I don't want single person calling me Marine until I have EARNED that title just like the many men before me. That being said, I can not wait to earn the title, oorah.

Whatever you do, don't be an idiot. STUDY STUDY STUDY for the ASVAB, score as high as you possibly can, be as physically fit as you can be, and most importantly have some common sense, because believe me, you'll be surprised how many people you'll meet that have very little of it. Not only that, but have a short attention span as well. Hence, why you'll notice things constantly being repeated over and over and over again, and DI's, instructors, etc. get pissed off because of it. It's just something you'll have to go through in boot camp, and once you're done, do EVERYTHING you can to pass ITB/SOI, and get your ass to the fleet. You'll be at the bottom of the barrel for a little while, and honestly, just take it with a grain of salt, and learn from every leader that you have (whether good or bad). That way when you do become one, you won't be counted amongst the innumerable amount of jackasses that have held leadership positions before you. That way, once you're done with your service, you have a better character ingrained within and can help you transition out of the military a lot smoother. Also, keep in mind the recruiters isn't entirely "there for you". Their job is to RECRUIT. You're merely an applicant, and you're pretty much negotiating a contract based upon the results of your overall scoring. Make things work for your behalf, including the work put inn by the recruiter. Don't let their position intimidate you into signing a mediocre contract versus an excellent one. Make them work! With that said, be respectful, don't be an idiot who skimps out on any of the above, and your time in the Marines will be ok.

Hi Clayton. I am currently in the process of enlisting in the marine corps. I have three tattoos. All of which are on my right arm. I have one on the front of my bicep that kinda of peeks out under my sleeve, and another that is a little bigger and a little lower on my arm. I watched one of your other videos on tattoos and reviewed that chart you had on the usmc tattoo policy's. Both tattoos can be covered with my hand. Theres a good three inches between the tattoo on my tricep and the tip of my elbow however the one on my bicep seems to end JUST barely 1.5 to 2 inches from the top of my forearm, when my arm is fully extended. I told my recruiter I had tattoos THAT DIDNT FALL BELOW THE ELBOW, and I guess he never felt the need to check them himself. I am currently waiting for a med waiver to get approved so I would hate to have to apply for a tatto waiver as well. Should I be good to go. Is there any way I can check for sure that my tattoos are within regulation. Thanks!

Biggest mistake is becoming a poolee. Just read the little booklet the recruiter gives you, get 3 pull ups done, and then hit MEPS. They’ll show you everything else you need to know from there. Pay attention and sound off, do everything with speed and intensity, and always put out and you’ll be just fine.

Just a small point that sometimes gets miss. Choose a job that not only suits you but will help you start a career when you get out. When I enlisted for the army I had scored high enough that they wanted me to be a crane operator (62f) but dumb ass 18 year old me didnt think that was exciting enough and went 62e as a heavy construction equipment operator. Now I am making decent cash but could making 50 bucks and hour sitting in a air condition cab waiting to pick shit up. The recruiters will not help with those decisions for what lays after the military has ended.

Pick something that interests you while keeping in mind whether or not it's something that can land you a civilian if you decide to not make the Corps a career. Lastly, be aware of what your promotion opportunities are in your MOS (job), some are very impacted and near impossible to pick up rank while others promote so fast that you could get out as a Sgt. after your 4 years are done and be eligible for Staff Sgt. if you stayed in.

No go as soon as you can the sooner the better, if you don’t end up liking it you will be young when you get out, and go straight to college if that is one of your goals. If you plan to go to school after you EAS consider going to OCS first , become an officer. Which means go to school first, there are program for this. go to officer recruiter not enlisted recruiter.

I've been a poolee for 9 months now. I leave in 3 months. So I will have been a poolee for just about a year before I ship out. I follow all these steps except I do dip because I'm 18. It's actually something I picked up from being a wrestler. I don't dip enough to be addicted persay. It takes me 2+ weeks to go through 1 can of dip. So hopefully I am safe there. I am not addicted. I don't get niquotine lows or anything where I am like "I need it" if I smell wintergreen gum occasionally I crave it, but other than that I don't really have problem.

Ah, the smoking isn't as bad as you think. I vape and smoke every so often, and when I went to Army Basic Training at Fort Benning, my mind was too focused on eating, sleeping and trying to get to the next Sunday, as you don't really do much but sit in your barracks all day (fun fact for those who are atheists and don't go to church. If you go to Basic Training at Fort Benning, set up your wall locker so that the doors are open and climb in and fall asleep, but keep one eye open). When I got out (I hurt myself), then I was like, "Well, fuck.... I'm 19, I vape but I don't have my device with me, so let me get a pack of Marlboro Golds 100's! Because 'Murcia!"

Newly graduated Marines at my first MOS school were going out and getting tattoos all over the place. I thought it was a bad idea. Give yourself a little time to know if you are even going to like the military life before you permanently attach it to your body.

In my personal experience,screw that whole poolee program,work on yourself if you’re really that dedicated,just wait till after the graduate summer.Every little thing you think you’re going to get,even if you want to see some action like me,always be prepared to be disappointed and underwhelmed

I have a question for you I'm waiting for a waiver for my wife and kid how long does it usually take ?
@claytonfilpo8 жыл бұрын
+BRYAN FRANCO It depends, man. It varies depending on the situation. The waiting part sucks, but there's no way to make it go quicker. I've seen waivers take weeks, I've seen waivers take months. Sorry man

I have a question I passed my asvab at school and my recruiter took my score to Meps and he said my score got voided yet it was just good? I'm wondering what could've happened he said he's trying to fix things with them and get them to use my score I'm just hoping things go good if not I'll have to study for the test again
@daddy.actual8 жыл бұрын
you have to take the asvab at meps for it to count
@thegalapagos578 жыл бұрын
Dam I didn't know because after I passed my test at school the army and the navy were trying to get me to join I guess I'll just study again
@claytonfilpo8 жыл бұрын
+joseph rabago that's interesting, because your asvab test you took in school should count just fine. I have buddies that took theirs in school... Interesting
@thegalapagos578 жыл бұрын
Thanks Clayton well i guess the only thing I can do now is wait for him to get back with me on how things are going over there I guess I'll just continue staying in shape and studying in case I gotta take it again which I hope I don't lol
