When your only a bank fisherman, it’s hard to tell if your fishing dead water or not when you don’t have all the fancy electronics. I would like to see more videos of pros bank fishing giving advice than some wannabe googan kids that are annoying just trying to get views.

I would definitely add to this list - fishing your lures/bait too fast. Especially when the fish are acting picky/finnicky. I have a saying (especially when you're trying to get bigger fish to eat) - "If you think you're fishing too slow, fish slower". I think there are some days when speed can be a huge factor and the difference between getting bit or not. Sometimes it can even go the other way and u might need to speed it up a little, but for me slower usually pays off more often and with more big fish bites too 🤷‍♂️👍

I am a victim of the "Don't fish memories" and it really bit me in the ass this year on my favorite lake. Never realized I was doing it until I heard the term on this video. Thanks for splashing some cold water in my face and making me wake up!

By a longshot the biggest mistake is thinking you have nothing to learn from each and every fisherman you meet. Arrogance and dismissiveness will boat you far less fish.

I've seen one school of walleyes finicky and off bite and another school biting like crazy. Caught a couple of fish from both groups, the finicky fish had bulging stomachs and the biters were empty. Guess that the first group had cornered a school of baitfish and pigged-out where the second was still hunting.

I fish in a Pennsylvania river. You may get a walleye an hour before dark but the big bite comes when the street lights get to about half power as those light conditions seem to favor their eye. I see anglers leaving at dusk that don't know this. Also works in early morning before dawn. Often on back to back casts under those conditions.

I would also add. You don't always have to be in 18 plus FOW. I've sight fished Walleyes in the late summer and fall time in 2-5 FOW. I've always said. You're not fishing if you're not learning. Meaning that the more diverse and willingness of location and presentation outside of my habitual routines. When the bite is on and I'm using a jig with a minnow. I'll always give a long shank jig with a paddle tail a try with a different rod. If the paddle tail is just as effective. I'll keep using it. Just because I don't have to worry about losing my bait after a bite. Most of the time, I can get them to come back to my presentation if I happen to lose one. Anyhow, just my opinion. Lol

Very helpful video... but does that mean you NEED to have a fish finder/sonar for fishing Walleye?... I’m sticking with Pike... at least they are willing to bite just about anything can be attracted with noisy lures like whopper ploppers. (yes, I’m in the research phase for trying to get better at fishing, please educate me. 😊) Are Walleye really that much work/headache to catch?

@@nicke5056 I caught a teeny white one by surprise while boating with my dad. Caught on a home made spinner jig with a rubber frog attached. Fish Was about 6-8 inches long. Just itty bitty. I’ve also caught only 1 little perch as a kid... but Pike, good summer fun! Guess I’m just not keen on loosing jigs left and right from snagging every other cast. Can you run Weedless rigs effectively for Walleye or does weedless just buy them time to spit it out?
@lorent4998
@lorent4998 2 жыл бұрын
@@diaryofagoat-lass1023 You can run weedless. Or run a lindy rig in weed areas. Walleye can be finicky or they can be aggressive at times as well.

if you are a beginner and your lake is a poor walleye lake you can't use these tips to help. If you can't find or catch 1 walleye you just run around the lake getting skunked.

Actually I've seen that. One spring, a couple of calm , hot sunny days warmed the water enough that I thought that a swim would be a good break from clearing brush at the cottage. I dove off the dock and couldn't get out of the water fast enough, it was that cold - didn't have a thermometer but there was a hell of difference in temperature two feet down!

Things I learned. Don't blow up fish. Don't fish where there are no fish. Don't miss bites. Buy every fish radar device they have. Walleye fisherman are weird man. What kind of advice is this. Here is some more advice. Just catch the walleye every cast. If you do that, you will be doing great.

Never use rubber nightcrawler s on spinner rigs…use real ones
@davidlyons5614

I fish Lake Erie a lot trolling worm harnesses from 30-70’ of water and use rubber worms 99% of the the time. When I originally was using live bait, seemed like the small perch would take most of the night crawler off the hooks while I was letting the rig out, so it tried using Gulp crawlers and was surprised how long they lasted even while being pecked at from the perch. I then started experimenting with 7” Power Worms and Impulse night crawlers then eventually other brands of worms and now I use mainly all artificial worms and I’m still catching tons of walleye

After fishing for everything, every way, for 63 of my 69 years, I've found 2 things to be true about fishing. #1, if you're not catching any, it's because there ain't any fish to catch, and if you've been there longer than 10 minutes, you've been wasting your time, for 5 of those 10 minutes. Move on to other structures. #2, this applies to fast moving mountain rivers, and smaller lakes and ponds. If there are fish, there will be shit. When stirred up, and mixed, there will be foam any place water is falling, or along the shoreline, down wind. This applies to salt water, as well as fresh. ( But not in offshore, 400ft deep, it only shows up in small bays and inlets. Once you become aware of the difference between clean water, and water with a lot of predator fish eating oil filled fish, and shitting up a storm, the water makes a noticeable foam that hangs around longer than normal. Once you see it, you can never miss it. I started noticing the foam about 25 years ago while fly fishing the Alberta eastern slopes of the Rockies, on a very familiar stretch of the upper Red Deer river. When the trout moved upstream to spawn, the water was so foamy, I thought maybe someone had dumped soap in the river, until I threw my first bumble bee imitation, and hooked up with a 5lb Rainbow with a great hook in his jaw. I'd flogged this stretch for almost a week with no bites, and the foam and the fish connection was made. It saves me a lot of time, and, right now, I'm on the Detroit river, learning where the monster Walley live.
