In Freezing Moon you are missing that D string note (on the second second fret) on the run down in the intro. It starts with the chord as you play but there are 4 notes after that (the open strings as you play plus that 4th note)..

You can't play it like Euronymous, because Euronymous had no concept. He just played by instinct. So you can't copy guitarists like Euronymous, Kurt Cobain or Onielar, who play 100% intuitive, at least not 1:1 I think, Simon plays it like Blasphemer played the song live at Wacken, anno 2004. Sounds and looks quite right to me.

Nice one, Simon, but I think THE easiest, Black metal(ish) riff for beginners would be Dunkelheit by burzum. Maybe It's my nostalgia kickin' in, or something, but if memory doesn't fool me - that was one of your first video tutorials, back in like...2015 or 14 ? xD And yeah, if it wasn't for you - I would never blew the dust from that guitar I bought some 10 years ago, and start to actually learn how to play it. Nowadays - I compose on guitar, and only then - transpose what I wrote to other instruments (when before, it used to be keyboards). Keep up the great job, Simon, and thank you! P.S. This channel inspired me to get a guitar after playing bass for about a decade, love this video. The tone is amazing. Question for anyone reading, I don't have a guitar amp, I'm playing through a bass amp[lol]. I'm on a real tight budget and was wondering if anyone knew if buying a Distortion pedal would be more economical than buying let's say one of those $100 micro amps. Thanks for the lesson. MGLA brought me here
@HateMyself2474 жыл бұрын
It could go either way really. I'm not really familiar with the sound of a guitar through a bass amp but if it's got a good clean channel and you can boost the treble and knock off some of the low end you can get a good distortion pedal like a Pro Co Rat 2 for about $70 or the Mooer Black Secret, which is a clone of the Rat, for $40 and it sounds pretty damn close. Or you can get an amp like the Orange Crush 12 for $100, which it isn't big but I wouldn't call it a micro amp. Simon showed one of those in a video about the best amp for recording black metal and I though it sounded pretty damn good. Honestly, if it were me, I'd go for the distortion pedal because you can't go wrong with having a good distortion pedal.

They just play things that aren't power chords sometimes. Something I wish all metal guitarists would do, but they don't. A lot of it is just standard harmony writing that you learn in basic music theory classes (and more of it only bothers with that when it's convenient). Not all of it is that simple, of course, but a lot of it is. It would get you started at least.
