Having never crossed the Atlantic with a working refrigerator, I thought I might investigate the chances of getting the 24volt Waeco refrigerator we have onboard that has been a cupboard for months!
It's a weekend, I have no budget to be messing about ordering parts in for this, so it's time to do some good old-fashioned sleuthing and see if I can't work out WHAT is wrong and fix it with the tools/ parts I have on board- just as I would do at sea.

This type of content really gives me additional confidence to dig into boat electrical problems, find the problem and fix it. While we all know it's good to have spares, you also need to know how to attempt the fix without a spare. And, this a great reminder that even if you're planning to replace something, there's some significant value in trying to get the current one working, if for no other reason, increased experience and confidence.

Interesting. But what I most appreciate in your videos and podcasts is not really what you do, but how you talk and express yourself. Informative, funny with great musicality. Really hope your subscribers numbers shoot through the roof soon. You’re worth it.

Might be a fridge but the technique is useful for various systems onboard, methodical step by step fault finding and repair.

exactly- and yet it’s a form of problem solving that is less ‘popular’ now as we move toward a world where we just throw components away and get a new one :/ Thanks for the comment :)

Don't you love when troubleshooting turns up no voltage... But you had to know you weren't going to get off that easy. Looking forward to seeing that refrigerator running, don't throw it out!

update- the fan is now going, the light turns on… but still no cooling effect- I haven’t given up yet though ;)

I bought a cool little digital dodad off Amazon that could stand in for the OEM thermostat (as it never worked properly before or after this repair) At less than $20 it is a must for refrigerator operator / mechanics like ourselves (lol) who could get caught out with food spoiling at sea if the thermostat goes off.. here it is W1209 Dc 12v Digital Mini Thermostat Temperature Controller Micro Digital Thermostat Electronic Temp Control Module Switch a.co/d/1IyZDHJ
