Great video and advice as always. It never gets old to shout it from the roof: Making movies is a business. Even when it's art. So we have to adapt to the art of film business in order to create film art. It's the only way to potentially make a living in this creative world (and I'm with you; can't see how it makes a difference if we're talking of promoting a doc or feature).

Thanks for posting this. I agree you got to be in the game to have any chance to win. Hell I have a journalism background and have shot numerous stories for the network and local news, transitioning to documentaries is a no brainer. I say no brainer because my brain was clearly absent for not doing it earlier. The doc stuff is fast to shoot and I can use them to master the promotion skills i'll need to propel my narrative projects. Thanks for the good advice and kick in the pants.

This is a great list. I attribute all 5 of those steps to my success with my film Pool Party Massacre. (and by success I mean the fact that I have made a profit, my movie is still being watched, and my Mom is proud of me)

A Great Video as always I like your optimistic approach I never feel like you give out false hope or sell a dream you tell it as is in my opinion I think you paint a realistic picture of what it's like to be a fully independent filmmaker . 15% chance of making good money actually seems like pretty good odds to me - I wonder how it compares to say inventing a new gadget? - it's MUCH better than that for writing a best selling book for example

Great info as always! Do you funnel all social media on your films through Zapruder or is it your personal page. And I'm going into to production on a $50K feature in two weeks (Horror/ think The Witch & Conjuring). What is a good camera for BTS footage and you could also double for low-budget Documentary interviews? I'm looking to really pump up my material for the 90-day social media campaign as you've mentioned.
